JR Blogs on Bret Hart, Mystico, Steve Austin and Tommy Dreamer
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 12.27.2009

* Jim Ross has posted his latest blog here. Some excerpts:

- On Tommy Dreamer: I received a wonderful text message from Tommy Dreamer on Christmas Day that confirmed that he was leaving WWE. Tommy did not mention what he was going to be doing but I would assume that Dreamer will be doing more wrestling. Tommy has been a great solider for the business and is a credit to his profession. He thanked me for my efforts on is behalf but he's the one who deserves the thanks.

- On Steve Austin: Got a call from Steve Austin last week who took one day to gather himself in LA after finishing filming his latest action adventure movie in Vancouver and then began a California to South Texas drive in a RV. Steve is going to enjoy his ranch in January as much as possible and then get right back on the horse, so to speak, in February with more projects in the film genre. When Steve called me he was driving the RV somewhere in Arizona heading east. We could have produced one helluva reality show on that trip I guarantee.

- On Signing Mystico: Saw where WWE reportedly signed Mystico, a talented Hispanic grappler, and here's hoping that he speaks fluent or at least understandable English because if he can't communicate with the English speaking fan base there is only so far any wrestler can elevate. Any wrestler, especially those where English isn't their first language, who is not working on their verbal skills on their own time is cheating themselves out of cash. Sometimes I wonder how much work some wrestlers actually do when they are "off" to enhance their careers other than their trips to the gym and the tanning salon. Perhaps a visit to a financial planner or a tax expert would be a good way to invest some time rather than shopping for more "bling."

- On Bret Hart's Return: Seems as if the Bret Hart hosting Monday Night Raw on January 4 is apparently a lock according to the DirecTV programming guide . I got a cool email from "Hitman" during the holidays but we never discussed his projected or potential Raw appearance. Yes, I actually have friends in the wrestling biz that aren't always incessant on talking about the beloved business. For the old timers, I try to avoid discussing the business at all costs because most of them only want to bitch about it and that type of conversation becomes too negative in a hurry for me. I understand their points of view but I choose not to invest much time into things that I can't control. I'll just let a selected few of the class valedictorians in the "wrestling internet world" handle those matters.

Cue Vince completely scrapping the Bret Hart angle just because it's been spoiled by DirecTV.

Get well soon JR we miss you! Striker is overrated and makes at least 2 factual mistakes per broadcast. Grisham is still lost. They have castrated Jerry Lawler Byron sucks hardcore. Why not bring in a better african american announcer I would rather Abe Washington Slick Tony Atlas or anyone who has talent. I want HEEL Lawler especially with Bret Hart back. I want JR. The Batista beatdown on Mysterio was lacking Jim Ross and his way of really selling a moment as was Kofi Kingston at the Garden. When I think of historical WWF moments they have either Gorilla Monsoon Vince McMahon or Jim Ross as the soundtrack. Get Striker off my TV his man crushes on Grisham Matthews and the entire male roster are overshadowing the action. If Striker wants to fantasize about them and call them pet names do it on your own time not ours. Bring back JBL.

its still kind of a letdown that wwe signed the wrong guy....im not gonna be licking my tv to see bret hart on that sketch comedy show called raw but im glad he still has some love for the business. ive never seen a steve austin movie but that first wwe film looked hella interesting. tommy dreamer still has some stuff left, wouldn't mind seein him in tna for a quick stint

Sorry there good ol JR but you signed Incognito not MISTICO you dumb fat fuck!

It shows how narrow minded American fans are, if we can't accept somebody who doesn't speak English. Americans wrestle in Japan, Mexico, and Germany. Many of them don't speak the language but are accepted. Then again, ECW had Tajiri and Super Crazy and they accepted by the fans. Maybe its a WWE thing.

Sheamus must be working his ass off during the "off" time, heh.

What the hell is that Mystico rant all about? LOL

JR openly admits that he doesn't know if Mystico speaks fluent English or not, then goes onto a rant about how everyone should generally learn more about finance. Hahaha, what the hell?

Ross is the one who is narrow minded. It's WWE who can't foreign stars who can't speak English over, not the wrestlers themselves (the talented ones anyway). I mean, what can't the guy do? Cut a promo? Can't have a manager to talk for him, no sir. Out of the question.

Normally I don't care what JR has to say, but he makes a good point here. Lots of wrestlers out there can't cut promos to save their life and they just never improve. Roderick Strong, Shelton Benjamin, Charlie Haas, and The Young Bucks all have this problem.

For the record though:

Matt Striker >>>>>>> Todd Grisham > Jim Ross.

His comments about Mystico hopefully speaking English in order to get further over with the fans just makes me sad, really. Used to be that wrestlers who weren't the best speakers had managers to do that. I miss the days of the wrestling managers.

Somebody bashing you makes you respect them? You are a part of the IWC and JR was hating on you, moron.

Normally I'd agree with Ross's comments- WWE has rarely demonstrated interest in pushing anyone who can't speak English legit- but it doesn't make a difference in terms of who gets over. I mean, Umaga (kayfabe) couldn't speak English and he was pretty over.

JR isn't talking about the IWC, for the narcissistic simpletons that think anyone on the internet = IWC.

If you've read anyone of the amazingly amusing online rants from The Iron Sheik, Honkytonk Man or the Internet's favorite ranting punching bag, The Ultimate Warrior, you'd put it together that there are many bitter old-schoolers that would love you to think they had no control over where their lives went and that Vince McMahon spent his life deliberately trying to ruin theirs.

One would think attaching "Valedictorian" to a label would suggest one would have to have accomplished something to deserve the label, or maybe JR was talking about us....

"Tommy did not mention what he was going to be doing but I would assume that Dreamer will be doing more wrestling"

That's a pretty big diss to Dreamer - "Yeah, I figure he's going to TNA but who the fuck cares". I mean, he was only ECW Champ this summer, not like he did anything important in WWE.

Jerry, it's called a vallet/manager. The E REALLY needs to go back to this, as it could open up the product, and help get people, who aren't as talented on the mic, over.

It's done wonders w/ a young Chris Hero.
