RIP Doc. The guy was an extremely credible champ in the late 80's and up through the Varsity Club run. I thought he could have been used better in the last WWE run, because its a shame the country and the next generation of fans didn't get to see one last run of a pretty bad ass, believable dude in the ring.

The man was, at least in America, one of the most under-utilized workers over the last 15 years.
Williams & Gordy v. The Steiners matches were EPiX!

Dr. Death gave it hell, but unfortunately it was a battle even he couldn't overcome. Rest in peace.

So unfortunate. He was a favorite of mine. He was a great wrestler, and the toughness and dignity he showed in his fight with cancer showed me what a great man he was as well. Thank You Dr. Death, for your heart and your courage both in the ring and out.

He was at his best when he was part of MVC with Terry Gordy, hell of a tag team... Those Real World Tag matches in the early 90's were awesome...
And Kobashi vs. Williams at Budokan Hall was a classic...
You will be missed Dr. Death, R.I.P.

My first taste of wrestling was watching Dr. Death and DiBiase team in Mid South. I used to hate them so much because they would actually cheat to win matches rather than fight cleanly. Sometimes, DiBiase would even put something in his glove and hit people with it in order to win the match. I couldn't believe someone could be so bad.
One of my biggest mark-out moments ever was when Williams won the UWF title.
Rest in peace.

I almost said not a huge loss but it is, he had alot to teach but that knowledge lives on in the tape collections of many fans.
I can't say it's shocking though. But a loss is a loss.
the HWF is getting more and more talent every year.

Wow sad to hear that. He died far too soon. RIP Dr Death. I loved your All Japan matches. You were a helluva wrestler. I dug your stuff from that UWF promotion too. WWE never really gave you a chance in 98-99, I bet if you had went there earlier you'd have caught on better. God bless you man. Im so sad for your family and friends but at least youre in a better place. RIP Doc.

Legitimate bad-ass and certainly tough as nails right to the end. Glad his suffering has come to a close, but sad to see him go - especially just shy of 50.
However, on a high note, I can see he and Gordy celebrating their reunion by taking turns suplexing somebody onto their heads right about now.
Rest easy, Doc:(

Whoops...my mistake! His partner in MVC was Terry "Bamm Bamm" Gordy. According to PWI, a Japanese reporter called them that in "broken English", and the name stuck.

I met Dr. Death in an airport in 2007. Didn't want to hound him, but when I finally had the courage to speak to him all I said was " your matches in the UWF were amazing." He was kind... Smiled... And scratched out a humble thank you. I'm not a small man but Steve was just big. I saw him wrestle Jake Roberts and the Barbarian in the Mid South. His team with Ted DiBiase killed the Rock and Roll express. I followed his whole career. His matches against Gordy were just as good as his matches teaming with Gordy. He was a rare breed. You have to lump him with Stan Hansen, Brusier Brody, Big Van Vader, Terry Funk Mick Foley and Gordy as legit tough guys. Say what you want but one of the BEST who ever lived died today. Rest in peace Steve.

Awful news. Dr Death had some of the greatest matches in wrestling history in All Japan in the early 90s, and was a major reason I'm a fan. A terrible loss to the wrestling world.

I have known Doc Williams since age 13. We hung out at each other's houses, he took me to Homecoming our soph year. Watched his amazing career and re-connected in 2004. Have talked weekly since, even on Christmas Day.
We classmates that knew him before his awesome career knew the man and cheered him on as the amazing athlete. He is dearly missed and we will celebrate his life.
Prayers go out to his family; son, brothers, mother. God just gained a huge Angel.
