Various News: Rock In a Tutu, Last ECW Show, Psych Rating, More
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 02.05.2010
Why was he in a tutu?
- The February 3 episode of Psych, which featured Stacy Keibler, did a 2.2 rating.
- The last scheduled ECW show on the live events calendar is the taping on February 23 in Milwaukee.
- Regis Philbin and The Rock made a bet last month when The Rock appeared on Regis and Kelly. Regis said the Saints would go to the Super Bowl while The Rock picked the Vikings. The loser would have to wear a pink tutu. On today's show a clip was aired with The Rock saying he was a man of his word, but he'd be coming after Regis in the 2010 season. As Rocky walked towards his truck it was revealed that he was wearing the tutu.
- A spokesperson for Linda McMahon, in response to criticism from one of Linda's Senate opponents about the Eugene character, said the following:
"In the soap opera world of WWE, the character 'Eugene' was developmentally disabled, but rather than the beaten down, pathetic character that Rob presents, Eugene was treated via scripting like all WWE superstars with no special privileges. He competed in the ring or in a steel cage, sometimes winning, but often losing as an underdog. In the end, in spite of any disability, he was victorious and became a hero. Rather than a pathetic character, he was inspirational. It was through WWE's work with the Special Olympics since 1986 that Linda understands that these special athletes don't want preferential treatment. They just want a chance to succeed. Eugene proved to them that they could."
.....................and then Eugene got covered in green paint and we shaved his head for no good reason."

Mr Nanny 2 starring the Rock
Eugene was annoying, insulting to any real fan, and should never have seen the way to WWE screens- but, neither should Hornswoggle, so what the hell. For WWE or McMahon to act like he is a hero or anything is ridiculous- after his first push with HHH/Evolution, Eugene was quickly dropped into 'Jobber to the Stars' status.

Big fucking deal, Linda, my company hired a legit retard: Me... and Russo... And Hogan... And probably Steiner.

Apparently, Meehan can see the future. If they had only gone with his idea, this wouldnt be biting Linda in the behind right now.

Hmmm...a Dem criticizing the Eugene character after the Savior...err...Obama's chief of staff Rahm Emanuel dropped the word "retard" when talking about his own party....such hypocrites...damn politicians all suck!!!

are you kidding me? one of Linda McMahon's opponent criticized Linda for the Eugene character?!?! this person themself MUST BE A RETARD.
Posted By: shatta (Registered) on February 05, 2010 at 06:25 PM
why didn't he or she criticize her for the 'Duke The Dumpster' character, for the 'Hillbilly Jim' character, for the 'DX' characters, for 'Rick The Model Martel' character? those ppl are so out there trying to bring her down, they themselves are sounding really stupid. do they know wrestling is fake?

A good, reasonably fair point by Linda. I think WWE did a pretty good job with that character. It's just a shame he never met full potential. I've been reading a lot on here about people wishing he had turned heel with some sort of "I was messing with you all along" scenario. I love the idea, but in reality, that's something people totally could shit on. In a movie it's alright (I guess... not sure if Johnny Knoxville took any flack for that or not) but in WWE, which is scrutinized every step of the way already, it would have been just one more thing fueling the fire against them.
Then again, he could have been the new ultra edgy Goldust style character WWE needed if something similar to the attitude era pops up again. Cool thing is, if a new non PG era does come along they could still do it. It's a cool way to get some serious mileage out of the gimmick.

what abt hte rating with cena?
Posted By: hmm (Guest) on February 05, 2010 at 07:04 PM
Honestly, as a disabled person myself, I have to agree with Linda. Portraying a character like that ought not to automatically villify the WWE.
Shit, South Park's Jimmy and Timmy are two of the funnier and more likable characters on the show. Eugene was portrayed as a decent person, talented. Making an outcry over this is nonsense.

I believe that is considered to be:
"treated via scripting like all WWE superstars with no special privileges."

Wow, so the Rock make headlines on yet ANOTHER thing Hogan has already done 10 years ago. Mr. Nanny anyone?

Hopefully once Linda loses the Senate seat, which I'm pretty sure she got humilated in the primaries, WWE will get over this kiddy shit.

Rahm Emanuel was referring to an IDEA as being retarded, not an actual person. There's a big difference there.

No surprise about Psych. If they wanted to attract an audience with a former diva, they should have gotten Trish. She's more famous(especially among WWE fans, many of whom have forgotten Stacy). She has way more charisma. She's a better actress. And she's more beautiful, especially nowadays. Trish is aging like a fine wine, Stacy's looks are fading. And it looks like Trish might be starting an acting career, which is about the only cool news I've heard about any diva in a long time. USA should try and reach out to her.

You know, I love Rock, but he seems too eager to make an asshole out of himself. He seems to think a big muscular jock looking silly will make him more popular. It won't. All it's going to do is make sure he never gets a decent script again. People don't want to see "Dwayne Johnson: Clown". They want to see "The Rock: Bad Ass".

Or, they're exploiting the fact that people automatically feel sympathy for the character because he's disabled, so they did something outright exploitative to draw heat.
But yeah, WWE's intentions were pure with the character. It's not like they have a history of racism or sexism that would contradict the notion that they treat minority characters with respect.

If lindas opponents want to ruin her senate run they need to start talking about the katie vic story line.

Yeah, when me and my imaginery family sit down to watch Regis, we don't want the star of Disney's The Tooth Fairy to be acting like a clown, we want him to be beating up nerds and spitting on people in wheerchairs. Maybe if he did that then my kids would want to go to his movies *twice* as opposed to the once they obviously are doing for the guy to be making profitable movie after profitable movie.
And seriously, I hate when uninformed right-wing kids on here decide to get political. If you don't know shit, don't talk shit. Obama's the 'savior' - ah, the intellectual inferiority-complexes of stupid people...

Linda McMahon shelling out tens of millions of bucks to try and elect herself to the Senate???
Puuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhhhllllleaaaaaseee!!!
If my ballot read: Connecticut Senate, Sock Puppet vs. Linda McMahon, it wouldn't be much of a choice.
Sock Puppet > Linda McMahon

The idea for Eugene didn't come from the WWE, it came from the guy who played him.
