WWE News: Updates On Tonight’s Raw, The ECW Title, WWE NXT
Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.08.2010

- Tonight's WWE Unified Tag Team Title match will be an "elimination style" match.

- As of right now, WWE has not decided what to do with the ECW Title. The belt may continue on as some are lobbying to keep the title, but in the end this will be Vince McMahon's decision. Some feel that they should keep the belt so that they can use the title for the undercards of secondary PPVs as an attraction.

- Here is the latest on the "WWE NXT" series. Right now, the series concept is said to be a "reality" based series featuring new talents who viewers will be able to follow both in and out of the ring. The hope is that fans can get to know the talents from day one, get insight into their goals and personalities, so that the fans can create a connection to them.

In a way the concept will be like a combination of WWE Tough Enough and the UFC's Ultimate Fighter, with the talents feuding with each other to become the next big WWE star. WWE has been working on the concept since November, and as of now, this seems to be the main theme behind the show.

This is either a great or horrible idea.

And Vince continues to hate and despise the business that made him rich.

That being, y'know, PROFESSIONAL WRESTLING.

Focus on Danielson and make him the focal point, the main star. He is a humble nice guy out of the ring mixed with a gritty badass nature to him that will attract people.

A reality show? WWE finally drove me away. Kudos.

HBK to turn on HHH for the first elimination. Called it.

NXT sounds fucking awesome if only for the possibility that Danielson may be on it.

Posted By: Chungles (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:21 PM

NXT sounds really cool, I can't wait to see it

Posted By: Bill (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:24 PM

This could be interesting, if they throw kayfabe out the window. Otherwise is just going to be silly.

Posted By: demOcratic (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:24 PM

This seems like a really dumb idea, but whatever. Maybe it'll be awesome.

Posted By: Deathpool (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:24 PM

If they keep it, it should basically be the new hardcore title but without 24/7 rules. All matches for it should be under extreme rules.

Reality show? Will we get to see them shoot roids and pain killers and do drugs like in the wrestler

Posted By: Guest#1198 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:37 PM

oh man, the plans for NXT sound so bad and uninspiring. i hated when tna did that with their talent, showing all these videos of the wrestlers in their homes, talking about their dog or some shit.

this wrestling, not american idol - the new talent should create the connection with the crowd through promos and good wrestling abilities, thats how its been done for years and this is what works.

fuck nxt.

i guess this means the older guys will head to smackdown or Raw. sad :(

Posted By: Guest#8066 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:41 PM

They should utilize the ECW title, as a Television Title sort of championship, where it has to be defended every program. That was a great idea WCW had for a long time.

Posted By: tango (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 01:53 PM

WWE doing a reality show? That's one less WWE show I will be watching.

Next. Erm, NXT.

Posted By: neverAcquiesce (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:01 PM

Will this "reality" be in character?

Having the roster compete for a chance to be signed to the main brands sounds ok.

I'd like to see some sort of interactive feature added to the show -- like, we get to choose who is promoted to Raw or Smackdown.

Posted By: Guest#2700 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:02 PM

I think that's actually a great idea. It's the perfect way to build up and get to know young talent, rather than just having them show up one day and tell us everything we need to know about them in a paragraph long promo.

Posted By: Guest (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:03 PM

Well, how will the WWE fanboys paint this as another "original" Vince McMahon idea.

Posted By: MilMascaras (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:04 PM

And just when I thought they couldn't possibly put any LESS wrestling on their shows...

Posted By: Guest#2159 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:06 PM

A reality-type of show? Give me a break.

It probably will get better ratings than ECW did though. :(

Posted By: mogamer (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:08 PM

Those mother fuckas stole my idea! ...But its ok. ...If they do it correctly this show is gonna be amazing and Will make stars with in a 5 week period.

And by the way, those who hate croft and barreta. ...Wont soon enough. They're gonna be getting a lot of screen time once WWENXT starts off. They were brought in (iMo) already prepared for this show. In the short time they've been on ECW, they have become the most developed characters on the entire program.(besides christian, but that's a given he's champ.) You know your suppose to dislike the heel. The IWc problem is that ...they mix their dislike for the character on screen and the and the wrestlers playing the character.
(Croft snd Barreta are Dope!)

no theyre not "dope" or "fresh" or whatever you wanna call them - they are just a cheap and less talented rip off of the motorcity machinguns.

This sounds interesting but it could easily turn out dumb, really looking forward to seeing Danielson on it tho.

WWE NXT's idea is a reality based show about the up and coming talents. Wow, doesn't that sound more like WWE Tough Enough NXT: The Burying Continues

Posted By: Video Kid (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:43 PM

Just stick the US title on NXT or something. You don't need all those damn belts.

Posted By: Guest#9455 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 02:58 PM

Now I'm certain the current fanbase is very young. Didn't they do this before? They even write in this article that it's a combination of that previous WWF reality show that did the exact same thing...that's how we got such luminaries as...Maven and that doofy looking white guy that tried to shoot on Kurt Angle.

The reason why it works for UFC and other reality show contests is because it's a real competition for those shows. You can't have them wrestle each other here and pretend it's a real fight, and they're not about to have them fight for real either, because that type of wrestling already exists and most people don't watch it or it's at a higher level in UFC anyway with other elements as well. You won't see an RKO in "amateur" wrestling which is the only way to make it a "real" contest.

What are they going to do, have other assorted contests to determine who wins the match and gets to call spots? Like have one episode centered around a chess match between opponents and the winner gets to win the wrestling match? That would give a real competition element but then it'd also kill kayfabe entirely, and cause more problems. You just can't get this to work.

Posted By: Guest#0413 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 03:08 PM

Really? A reality show. Doesn't sound like something I'll be watching. I may give it a chance, but I doubt it's something I'll get into very much. But I wish them luck.

Posted By: Guy Incognito (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 03:09 PM

hmmn so why didnt Tough Enough stick around the first time? oh yeah people rather see behind the scenes of MMA fighters not Pro Wrestling. The few people that like to pretend its Real hate to see you give away all the details (kinda like that magician who tells you how all the tricks are done) once the awe is gone, its no longer entertaining...

Yeah right on! I've been saying this for over a year now! If the WWE could get away with NOT being a wrestling company, they would do it in a heartbeat.

Posted By: WetOREO (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 03:36 PM

At least Tough Enough gave us John Morrison and The Miz, so some good came out of it.

Then again, it did give us Jackie Gayda. Holy crap, was she an awful wrestler. Who though it was a good idea for her to win Tough Enough?

I think we can safely look forward to the future endeavoring of Goldust and Kozlov in a couple of weeks. Sadly, perhaps Helms as well.

And Christopher Nowinski, the Miz, and John Morrison?

Posted By: Anonymous (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 04:07 PM

Either make the ECW title a the NXT title on NXT (unless there really won't be much wrestling on the show) or unify it with the IC or U.S. Title. There's already enough titles as is (two womens I still say is too much.) Honestly I wish they'd go back to one world champ that can appear on all show and do that for the women and tag titles as well and make the US and IC exclusive to raw and smackdown. Like people said, NXT will either be really unique or terrible. I'm not sure what to say exactly yet.

Yawwwwwwwwwwwwwwn...

Posted By: Brian (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 04:39 PM

So now they want to heavily feature the ECW title AFTER the ECW show doesn't exist anymore? And I know Chris Nowinski has made a name for himself talking about concussions alot but what the hell did he ever do in wrestling as active competitor? And Morrison and Miz are overrated and it helped alot that they had the Billion dollar WWE machine pushing them but if they left wrestling today would anyone really care?

Posted By: jimmy (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 04:45 PM

I like this idea. It could be similar to Tough Enough, but we also get to see them perform in front of a Live Crowed. This will give me a reason to actually tune in and care about the wrestlers in FCW and ECW.

Shit gonna be kayfabe.

Posted By: Guest#2707 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 05:55 PM

ECW title should either be renamed the NXT title for the new blood to fight over (giving the belt credibility as it has ECW lineage) or unified with the WWE or World titles. I'd say Christians 6 month run warrants him fighting for a major belt at some point.

Unify the belt with the World title and be done with it.

And NXT is now an EPIC FAIL.

Actually I don't see that at all. The MCMG's are ok, above average. They're not as great as the IWC make them out to be. TNA realizes that so they haven't pushed them too much. Croft and Barretta are better on the mic, and just as good in the ring. They have the potential to really be big stars some day. I don't see that in the MCMG's at all.

So, basically, it's Tough Enough all over again?

Posted By: ZeroVX (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:33 PM

I say make the ECW title the new WWE Television title. Having to be defended on each showing of NXT. and possibly on a PPV card once the established newbies can show what they can do.

Posted By: anonymous (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:45 PM

Whatever Vince plans to do with NXT, they'll do it for about a month or so and then, they'll be right back to standard WWE crap, just like they did with ECW.

Posted By: Guest#8487 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:51 PM

Real easy answer for McMahonagement regarding the ECW title: why not rechristen it the NXT title?

It could STILL be defended on the undercard of secondary PPVs. You could even have an angle where some Heel wins the ECW belt from Christian (possibly at Elimination Chamber) and promptly TOSSES IT INSIDE A GARBAGE CAN, declaring ECW DEAD and himself the FIRST EVER NXT CHAMPION. It would be a nice touch of continuity with the day ECW was born.

Posted By: Guest#0075 (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 08:59 PM

Just over a decade after WWE's "Rip Off ECW" era, they are now in the "Rip the name off the SWA but do a done to death reality TV show" era.

Yay!

WWE NXT Sounds really stupid and Gay.As soon as I read "reality based series" I decided right there to never watch it.
As for the ECW Title. It died in 2001 and Ryhno was The last Champion. It would be cool if they changed the name of the title to a "TV Title" or something like that for the under card guys.

If they keep the ECW title, they should have it on one show and have another title return to the other show. Like the hardcore title, or the European title.

Posted By: Miz fan (Guest)  on February 08, 2010 at 11:11 PM

I'm actually intrigued by this. I may be one of the few folks that liked Tough Enough.

The question is, what way do they go with this? Do they do a worked "reality" series, or actually go whole hog with it and break kayfabe? I'd be really interested in seeing the latter... it could be like Ultimate Fighter, except instead of the teams fighting against each other in the matches, two members of the same team wrestle and their matches are judged to determine the episode's winning team.

They should really can it, then they can give Christian a title shot to make up for dissolving his title.

Instant main event fued for a guy who deserves one in the E...hopefully on Smackdown, against a Canadian (Edge or Jericho would both be awesome).

well excuse us for expecting a wrestling company to put on wrestling, a novel concept your limited mind can't grasp because u r too busy hailing everything Vince does...news flash buddy WWE sucks TNA sucks and I haven't watched anything else...yes I will continue to watch Raw & Smackdown but NXT will NOT be on my viewing schedule because it is the lamest idea ever and o yea it's a fake ass reality show like tv isn't already oversaturated with the mindnumbing bullshit..and i find it funny that a doufus who doesn't know any of us assumes we shit on everything Vince does because we are generally unhappy...maybe we are unhappy because half the time it looks like a retarded momkey could do a better job booking the shows and the only reason TNA still looks minor leagues is because they have the one guy dumber than the guys the WWE has booking the shows (Russo) and a orange douchebag who needs to fucking go away forever and take his geriatic butt buddies with him
