Jim Ross Blogs On The End Of ECW

JR speaks…
- Jim Ross has a new blog up; here are the highlights…
On ECW's End: Tonight is the last night that ECW will air on TV which signals the end of a unique and memorable era within the business. The underfunded, attitudinal, and overachieving original ECW was fun to watch on TV although I have to reluctantly admit that I never attended a live, ECW event in South Philly. I think that re-branding the Tuesday night time slot on Sy Fy is timely as the letters "ECW" always conjured up a different image than I saw on my TV screen. Mid South Wrestling was "extreme" before ECW took the term to a different level and I know how I would feel if someone would attempt to replicate Mid South or even UWF for that matter. The original versions of both ECW and Mid South Wrestling were relevant in a different era, with a distinctively different talent roster, and a different mindset as it relates to the genre. The days of blood and guts in wrestling are largely over due to health issues and political correctness which is simply what it is and not a hill that I choose to die upon.
On Paul Heyman's Contributions: I have always saluted Paul Heyman's creation and his ability to motivate his team to an "us versus the world" mentality that worked and kept the ship afloat even when financial woes plagued ECW. Many viable stars were created in ECW and Heyman had the gift that many decision makers before him possessed in the territory days and that was throughly understanding his wrestlers and hiding their weaknesses to the TV viewer while exploiting those individual's strengths.
On ECW's Contributions: ECW made unique and significant contributions to the pro wrestling world and their alumni should feel a source of pride for their accumulative accomplishments. I will enjoy watching old episodes of the "Original" for years to come when the opportunity presents itself. No one can tell the ECW story in today's marketplace better than their one and only voice, Joey Styles.
On RVD: Speaking of ECW, of the many top hands that made their mark in ECW, none were more uniquely talented than Rob Van Dam who is one of the hottest "free agents" available right now. It would seem to me that RVD would be a high priority to any wrestling organization and that facilitating a travel schedule to his liking should be attainable. RVD is a one of a kind talent who connects with his fan base and Rob's in ring work is singularly his which would be a breath of fresh air to many TV broadcasts.

That could very well be partially true, because I was never in ECW.

JR hinting that WWE should just sign WWE to fuck TNA over sounds good to me. Dont get me wrong I want him in a WWE ring but I think the intiative to screw TNA over within the next few months will a lot of fun.

tna will be lucky if they get a 1.45 again on mondays.
tna is not going to get an unopposed hour again. even if tna went to 8pm, wwe/usa net would make raw a weekly 3 hour show.
wwe/usa are not going to make it easy for tna to gain ground on their turf.
as far as hogan goes, the nostalgia factor will wear off and people will see a broken down con artist who became famous in the 1980;s because of a steroid made physique and tons of charisma.
the guy is broken down and can't do a leg drop anymore. mcmahon is in better shape than him and there is only an 8 year age difference between them.
carter wants tna on mondays so they can leech off the audience that wwe has built on mondays since 1993.
carter knows the only thing hogan as left is his name.
hogan's personal life is a joke, he is facing a multi million dollar civil suit because of his son's car accident, his wife left him for a 21 year old kid who is actually more mature than terry bollea.
even linda mocked him for bein in rassling in his 50's by asking him why he can't do anything else to make money.

I honestly don't think RVD is really that relevant anymore. Also he is 40 now, no matter how in shape he is he is getting old and for his style of wrestling being old is a problem. Maybe he's not wrestling now precisely because he knows he can't put on the same matches anymore.
He may have a couple of more years left but he'd need to wrestle a different style and what would the point even be?

I don't see why the WWE can't just sign RVD and give him the kind of schedule he wants. They were willing to do it with Jeff Hardy.

JR thinks he has it bad. He doesn't have a cackle of fugly 40 year old trolls cyber bullying him because of something he said on one of JD Dunns wrestling show reviews.
Trolls calling me a troll. LMFAO.
It's like Johnny Knoxville calling Robert De Niro a bad actor.

ECW and the monday night wars is what made this fake wannabe "wrestling" worth watching in the late 90s early 00s wcw gets sold to wwf and ecw goes to wwf then its the same repeated storylines and rivalries over and over. TNA will never make it as exciting as wwf vs wcw vs paul heymans ecw.
