Tons Of News On TNA’s Hard Justice PPV: ECW, Dreamer In Control, Talent Involved, Possible Main Event, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.21.2010

- The idea to make the TNA Hard Justice PPV an "ECW" themed event happened at the Monday tapings. There was a planned direction for the ECW crew, but they along with Tommy Dreamer pitched a new direction which Dixie Carter approved. Carter also signed off on Dreamer running the show, which at this time is planned to be a "one off" ECW show. Many are impressed with how much trust Dreamer has been given by management.

- The August 8th PPV has been renamed "Hardcore Justice: One Last Stand," and a new commercial has been sent out to PPV providers. The commercial reportedly features an ECW chant, something the company will have to be very careful about using for legal reasons.

- Tommy Dreamer has been contacting talent about doing the show, while TNA's Terry Taylor is handling the financial side of things. Talent expected to appear are Jerry Lynn, Sandman, Sabu, Spike Dudley, The FBI, Axl Rotten, Balls Mahoney and Swinger. No contracts have been signed and many people booked have asked that their name be kept quiet.

- They hope to headline the PPV with an RVD vs. Jerry Lynn match. It is not set in stone, and there are backup plans in place in case the match cannot happen. The plan is to announce two or three matches ahead of time, and then fill the card out via surprise, like ECW used to most of the time.

- Paul Heyman has nothing to do with the angle at this time. The show is also not the big surprise mentioned previously by Dixie Carter.

- Shane Douglas has been contacted to work the event, but he has not agreed to terms. Douglas is reportedly pushing the idea of wrestling Ric Flair on the show to play off of Douglas always calling him out in ECW.

- The response of the former ECW wrestlers has been interesting. Some feel excited about the possibility, while others are just acting like it is just another show since they have been down this road before. Some have been extremely thankful for the chance to work the event, while some have tried to get as much as they can from the company for their appearance. One talent, who has been off of TV for years, is refusing to come in unless he is was granted a multi-year contract by TNA.

- Yoshihiro Tajiri and Super Crazy are booked in Japan on August 8th, and will not be appearing at the show.

- There is no truth to the rumored Sandman, Dreamer and New Jack vs. Rhino, Richards and Raven match that has been reported on.

- Talent with independent bookings on Saturday will be flown into Orlando on Sunday morning. Others that can be there will be doing a Saturday meet and greet with fans at the NASCAR restaurant at Universal Citiwalk.

- TNA is trying to take the approach of the first One Night Stand show, booking who they can to make it an authentic feeling event, including referees and managers. There has even been discussion of honoring former ECW talent that cannot be there on the show.

- At this time, the PPV is the only event planed with the ECW theme. But there could be more appearances from ECW alumni after the show, if they can be integrated into TNA storylines.

They're not even trying to hide that this is a complete rip off of One Night Stand are they?

I mean "One Last Stand"? Really? REALLY?

These guys will put on a great show, maybe the best PPV this year with fans support like no other BUT too bad VKM owns ECW.

Douglas vs. Flair needs to happen. I don't care how awful it'll be, it needs to happen.

Meanwhile, half of TNA's current employees don't have anything productive to do.

I wonder if someday TNA can come up with an original concept of their own.

I'm not too trilled about another ECW-type event, but I like how there seems to be more focus on it than the other ideas TNA has been toying with all year.

Still, RVD/Lynn would be pretty F'n sweet!

And which the IWC bitches about if WWE does it.

No offense to anybody involved... but why bother? The original ECW is worth remembering, but this constant rehashing is old and tired.

I hope that Tommy Dreamer will be a great creative force for TNA and that they can come to terms with Paul Heyman, but they should be looking forward.

This continual focus on the past is only going to hurt, not help.

Excellent. TNA should be copying ECW not WCW.

TNA Hard Justice should be retitled. It should be called old guy that have not been relevant since 1999.

That's really too bad about Super Crazy and Tajiri, those are two guys I'd really like to see again. Shane Douglas vs. Ric Flair already happened in WCW in 2000. I doubt either guy could live up to even that match at this point.

Posted By: No (Guest)  on July 21, 2010 at 04:20 PM

ECW is dead. Some people just need to accept that. How many "just one more time" shows do they need to have? If the wrestlers haven't had closer by now, then they never will.

Also, I got a good laugh out of it being put together at the last minute, and the best name they could come up with is basically a rip off of One Night Stand. This is going to fail so hard. Dixie Carter is too much of a mark for her (and the company's) own good.

RVD vs. Lynn = WIN

Rest of this angle of old, decrepit, out of shape, talentless losers taking over the spots of TNA talent = HUGE LOSS

ECW IS BACK!

Posted By: E C DUB (Guest)  on July 21, 2010 at 04:53 PM

Too bad Yoshihiro Tajiri and Super Crazy couldn't be there. A match between the two of them would be great to see. If Sabu is back can Bill Alfonso be far behind. RVD vs. Sabu or RVD teaming with Sabu? Either would work. Will the FBI include Tommy Rich? Frankly, I hope not. Little Guido and Tony Mamaluke definitely. Tracy Smothers? Maybe. Sal E. Graziano? Only if Puccio feels up to it (e.g. -- his weight issues). Is Joel Gertner interested? Has he even been contacted?

Just the possibility of the names appearing might make this TNA's most watched PPV in their history.

Multi yr. contract off tv for years, I would be hoping that would be Lance Storm because honestly he would be the only person who would have that type of value.

This shows TNA needs money badly if they are putting the whole company on hold for this one time ppv. Which is using outside talent cause they only cost $500 to $1000 for the ppv. TNA is doing this cause it will save them money and hopefully rise there ppv buys above 8000 buys from the past few ppv. Even if this works TNA is still going to be hurting.

I'm intrigued and will prolly buy just for the nostalgia factor. Especially if they can get Lynn.

This is for once a smart move by tna, the kind of novelty that actually might attract fans who watched during the boom times but have now left...they might even keep watching.

also it gives existing fans something to get excited about, the ecw guys can still go unlike hogan / nasty boys etc and some unpredictablility is much needed as lets face it wrestling is in a dire state at the moment

theyre never going to win non wrestling fans whatever celebrity or 80s hasbeen they sign, so winning back those bored by the stale wrestling product of today with something different is the only way to go

get the feeling heyman will show up, and announce the firing of hogan and bishoff, no bad thing that experiment tanked big style and theyve obviously been sidelined now. id keep flair

now all they need to do is get back daniels and put their most over star, samoa joe, back where he belongs

what needs to happen here is a Jerry Lynn vs. RVD match, however the TNA #1 contender needs to get a shot at the title after the
match or the whole contender list thing is shot.

Also TNA's stars should be involved in this PPV as well. Throw them in some matches, Sabu vs. Abyss, Rhyno vs. Hardy/Anderson, Angle vs. whoever is next in the contenders list, AJ and Kaz vs. Sandman and Dreamer (if he can go), MCMG vs. Beer Money for the titles (match 5). Also have Brother Ray vs. Brother Devon w/ a Brother Runt special guest referee (this keeps that storyline going).

You cannot have a TNA run'd PPV with all ECW guys, it won't help you build your product. You need to mix them all together in order to bring in the old ECW crowd to your product.

This is dumb. We already had the reunion, we don't need another one. If they want to do something real cool do ECW style wrestling/booking with the TNA wrestlers

Shoot Me NOOWWWWW! Lol. Damnit I tried to find the silver lining by saying it was just a little angle, but damnit Dixie let Dreamer go balls deep with this invasion angle.

But you know what, imma order this and watch this beautiful nightmare of a ppv happen.

Speaking of completely original ideas, I hear that when this plays out, TNA is going to have a show where they pair up "rookies" with "veterans" to see who gets to be on Impact. Should be interesting.

I hope you were kidding when you said that, cause Monty Brown was in WWECW, not the actual original ECW.

And this sounds like a good idea, but I don't even think it's gonna be as good as the WWE's first One Night Stand PPV. I hope it WILL be good, but I just don't have much faith in it. No Eddie, Benoit, Mike Awesome, Jericho apparently no Tajiri or Super Crazy, everybody is even older than one One Night Stand happened. So many of them are broke down that they actually shouldn't even be in the ring, or have been buried so much over the years (Dreamer), that the excitement is really not there.

After this, maybe TNA will have an awesome angle where they hire Brutus Beefcake, Ultimate Warrior, Randy Savage, El Matador, "The Model" Rick Martel, and Repo Man in a late '80s/early '90s WWF-themed PPV. I would try to tie in a "dying days of WCW" theme but that's way too easy.

2) Dixie still has this "surprise" that's not announced. If its not ECW, then what is it? Whats left, her posing for PLAYBOY???

This show is going to make December to Dismember look like Wrestlemania 17. Mainly because since ONS 2005, everybody that is going to be on the show are 5 years older, slower and broken down.

Flair/Douglas needs to happen. Fans of the era have been dying to see that hatred come out.

Posted By: TROOF (Guest)  on July 21, 2010 at 08:55 PM

TNA needs its own identity. The were slowly building one up, but that went away with Hogan and Bisch's arrival. When they came in, we had 1990's WCW. With Hogan, Bischoff, Flair, and the NWO revival.

Now that WCW didn't work, they're going to ECW (or perhaps even WWECW). Is Jerry Lynn vs RVD going to bring in new fans? Are people really waiting for the payoff to Shane Douglas vs Flair?

Posted By: TheR (Guest) on July 21, 2010 at 03:32 PM

No I don't think so, everybody is about past their prime at this point and lets face these guys are not Taker and HBK. I watch Impact the other night and saw RVD give a frog splash no where near a 5 star frog slash maybe according to the 411 rating scale about **1/2. If anything they need to go out there in some hardcore brawl and let Abyss just kill them all putting himself over all these guys if they have any credibility left.

How does this company stay in business? TNA draws more money than ECW ever did. It's like Burger King buying White Castle and changing all their restaurants to White Castles. I am a huge ECW fan, mind you, but please LET THEM DIE PEACEFULLY!!!! Tommy Dreamer needs to grow up and move on with his life.

ignore the haters. the ecw guys are booking this show.

Posted By: Zingy (Guest) on July 21, 2010 at 08:21 PM

Nobody cares about those fools anymore. But ECW is still hot and you know it. Nice try tho.

Didn't WWE run house shows that people didn't go to when they relaunched ECW in 06' and before IWC complains the roster had Sandman, Dreamer, FBI, Roadkill and more of your favorites.

No one cares no more about ECW, another gay TNA move.

To all you haters out there: you know damn well that if this ppv was taking place in the WWE Universe, you clowns would cream so much you would have to leave your basements and come outside for air. Nuff said.

Posted By: Zev Luv X (Guest) on July 21, 2010 at 08:10 PM

this is dixie cartes thing huh going back to the past huh does anyone at tna ever learn for the love of god this is just a ploy to get heyman. question what if they dont get heyman then what? you get all hardcore and try to go even more extreme and then you end up like that CZW while entertaining at times only appeals to a small group

I think this PPV is a terrible idea for several reasons

1) TNA cant call it "ECW Hardcore Justice: One Last Stand" They will have to use the TNA name so that is a problem right off the bat

2) They cant have Joey Styles call the action, they will prob bring in someone to work with Taz so that its 2 ECW guys but its still not Styles.

3) Heyman wont be there, nuff said

4) Its not at the ECW arena, this is a huge factor as the fans played a huge part in the original ECW

At ONS in 2005 they had everything the way ECW used to be, thats why it worked, plus it was 2005 so the company was gone 4 years and still fresh in peoples minds. This is 9 years after it died and they wont be able to get the authentic ECW feel so its basically old ECW guys getting onto a TNA pay per view too fight in some hardcore matches, that is why this is a bad idea.

I agree that TNA has some good points that some "haters" overlook and bash the company but I cant see how anyone can defend this, its possibly the worst idea in wrestling ever, MOVE OVER KATIE VICK!!!

The only positive this could have is some good matches or else a good buy rate.... but have any of you thought of that? TNA creative obviously hasn't because if this out draws recent pay per views then that means that the 3rd top company from 9 yrs ago outdrew the 2nd top company of today

So basically either the PPV is shit and sells poorly and TNA are called retards for rehashing ECW or it goes really well and TNA prove that a knock off version of a company WWE owns and chooses not to use can out draw them on PPV EVEN WHEN THEY RUN IT THEMSELVES

Plus they might get sued on top of it.... This is the ultimate EPIC FAIL

P.S I know there are some big tna fans out there but this company is failing and failing fast, if you guys keep defending them blindly no matter what shit they pull then they will never improve. It is ok to give them constructive criticism!

This will be great if done the right way- that being no Jerry Lynn on the show. Nobody wants a rehash of the most overrated feud in wrestling history that culminated in ECW losing its spot on TNN because nobody outside of the 5 marks posting under different names on this board cares about a loser like Jerry Lynn.

A good card would be as follows:

Sabu v. Taz
Foley v. Funk
Raven v. Dreamer
The Blue Meanie v. Kevin Nash
The Eliminators v. Team 3 D
Shane Douglas v. Hulk Hogan

The surprise match should be Macho Man Randy Savage v. Jeff Jarrett you can have Mike Tenay in his whiney nasal voice talk about how these two met when Jarrett was a part of the greatest team/stable in wrestling history(blows away the horsemen) that being the "Kings of Wrestling". Macho man can even wear his all black outfit. Really for this to succeed you have to get someone, anyone, other than Mike Tenay to do the announcing. The worst announcer in wrestling history is not the guy to call the event the world has been waiting for that being 678900034567th ECW reunion show. Dixie Carter is a genius the only way this can get any better is if it ends with Hogan posing in the ring after an impromptu match with the Big Show that recreates his match with ANdre at wrestlemania 3. Hogan Show sold more than any event in wrestling history a few years ago and that is a surprise fans want. When Hogan is posing Saturn comes out with "Moppie" and "Moppie" challenges Hogan to a pose down. After Hoganbegins to pose he is attacked from behind by the Kiss Demon Dale Torborg and Barry Dorsaw doing his golfer gimmick. As Hogan is being beaten down who makes the save but the little guy from the Jeung Dragons who looked like Steve Blackman and Elix Skipper led by Jimmy Hart. As they save Hogan the lights go out and when they come on who is in the ring but Brother Brutus and the Legion of Doom Animal and Heidenreich. They take out everyone and you have the dream match of dream matches for the next PPV Brutus Beefcake v. Hogan. Fill it out with the LOD v. Beer Money, and Kurt Angle vs. Tony Atlas who has just been named the number 3 contender for the TNA World Title. Throw in Samoa Joe v the newly signed Chuck Polumbo and the Conman Rob Conway v. Brian Kendrick. You can also announce Dixie's big surprise she has hired Eric Bischoffs nephew "genie'.

How does a PPV featuring guys who aren't on the roster and are paid for one-shot appearances advance your product in any way?

And can we all agree that Dixie Carter, who may be a very nice person, is the biggest dummy in wrestling?

@The Truth

It would be hard to get The Eliminators to fight Team 3D at the PPV since John Kronus is dead.

"Shane Douglas has been contacted to work the event, but he isn't sure whether Target will give him the time off".

Oh wait that's right you still live in your moms basment playing x-box and eating cheese doodles!

I'm actually pretty excited about this plan. Even though it appears to be spur of the moment, it sounds like fun. And in an industry known for politics and backstabbing, it's nice to see the continued brotherhood feeling many of the ECW crew shows.

I always liked 2 Cold Scorpio and think he's a guy who could still put on a decent match, him against Malenko would be a great choice for opener but is obviously impossible. Maybe he teams with Al Snow against The Impact Players, I have no idea.
