More news on a busy Saturday...
- Johnny Swinger has confirmed that he will be at TNA's Hardcore Justice PPV on August 8. Swinger previously worked for TNA when it was emanating from the Asylum in Nashville. [Credit: PWInsider]
- Paul Heyman is expected to announce a new digital gaming project today at Comic-Con. Heyman has been working with Jeff Katz, a former WCW employee, on the project. Katz has also worked with New Line Cinema and has produced several films. He has also tried to make a wrestling film. [Credit: Wrestling Observer]
- The main event for ICP's Gathering of the Juggalos will feature Bryan Danielson & Todd Bridges vs. Corporal Robinson & Terry Funk vs. Mike Knox & Scott D'Amore. [Credit: Wrestling Observer]

They only brought in Swinger because his tag partner Simon Diamond already works for them as a road agent. They actually had a really good feud in the earlier days of TNA against America's Most Wanted.

Top Indy guys Like American Dragon,Roddrick Stong, The Brisoco BRos, Chris Daniels and one time Samoa Joe and AJ styles make more money in one year than most of the bottom tier guys in WWE and more than most middle tier guys in TNA. They make between 1000 dollars a night to 2500 dollars a night plus travel and sometimes meals and hotels depending on shows. The work 4-5 a week sometimes AJ styles did an interview once and said him an Chris Daniels made 250K a year. 99% of that money tax free. Better than the 60-85K a year Dragon was making in WWE. The reason guys go to the wwe is the steady pay and hopes of making it to a Midcard to Main Event status. Don't think because her is working an ICP show he has hit rock bottom. He is probaly getting more bookings and more money now than he did before.

No money earned is tax free. No matter how you make your money, you have to pay your taxes. The difference is no taxes are withheld and they are 100% responsible for paying everything. As with any independent contractor or self employed person, they also have to pay taxes quarterly, not just annually like regular workers. And if they underestimated their total owed by more than 5%, they also pay a huge penalty.
What's worse is that legally they are supposed to pay taxes to each of the states they work in. Imagine filling out the state filings in dozens of different states. Most people just pick one state (Florida because they have no personal income tax and favorable property taxes compared to New Hampshire or Nevada, which also don't have personal income tax) and have an s-corp set up in that state that they get "paid" through.
At the end of that day, though, 40-45% of that money is going to go to the government, regardless. So you can see it's hard to accept the rest of your argument when you don't understand tax implications.
