UPDATED: TNA Impact Rating
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 07.31.2010
How many tuned in?
UPDATE: The actual rating for TNA Impact was a 1.22, the highest rating since the February 18 show. The main jump in the ratings was in the male 12-17 demographic, which jumped from a 0.97 to a 1.21. The rating among males 18-34, 18-49, and 12-34, as well as the overall adult 18-49 demographic, did not increase and in some cases even dropped.
Original: Early indications are that last night's episode of TNA Impact drew 1.65 million viewers on average over the two-hour show, which would be the highest viewership TNA has achieved since February 18 of this year. The rating and quarter-hour numbers are not yet available.

Russo:"I know!"
Dreamer: "Man I'm glad my booking is working out well"
Dixie: "Ok here's what I'm ecstatic! Tommy call more of your pals. Okay? Chek all the nursing homes and rehab centres, I'm sure you'll find some guys. Vince, Vince you know you're my main man! You keep doing what you're doing! Remember keep the storylines confusing and don't forget, think 1999!"

Posted By: sp1 (Guest) on July 30, 2010 at 09:17 PM
I saw that same number on another site. I heard they hit close to 2 million viewers in one of their segments probably the overrun.
This is definitely a good rating for them so this is probably like a 1.2 or 1.3 for sure.
I think that ECW show in a couple weeks will get a 1.5 rating. I mean a free PPV show with ECW guys that's pretty rare.

This is great. They deserve a bump in ratings. TNA has been putting on some great shows with ppv quality matches from the guns and beer money. I've been thoroughly more interested in whats happening in TNA than I have been with WWE. I'm still wondering who abyss is talking about when he refers to "they" and as far as ECW originals go, who are we to say they don't deserve another night to apply their craft. If it gives us interesting storylines and good shows along with what the TNA roster is doing, I simply like the variety. Fortune, EV 2.0, Abyss and "Them", The new TV title, Anderson/Morgan/Pope, Guns/Beer Money, and other great storylines and feuds have me actually excited to watch. I hope their ratings continue to grow. And how about that PPV caliber Impact thats coming up? Good Job TNA! You've got this old wrestling fan's attention.
Posted By: Brady (Guest) on July 30, 2010 at 10:46 PM
Great job TNA. And with that rating, it means that many people saw MCMG vs Beer Money, thank god. The only thing I'm gonna nitpick about though, that "E-V-2.0" scream Tommy Dreamer yelled out, really just made me laugh.

impact was actually pretty good for weeks in a row, I guess some old fans have noticed and tuned back in
Posted By: Guest#1127 (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 03:14 AM
It was a great show. The match of the week as expected was Beer Money/MCMG in the steel cage. I don't think the EV2.0 crap is really what's bringing in higher ratings, I think people are just telling other people about the MCMG/Beer Money series.
Posted By: Black Scorpion (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 03:43 AM
I know this comment will be buried below, but new numbers/demos show that it was NOT ECW that bumped the rating AT ALL!
In fact, the "ECW demo" actually went down this week in that age group!!!

Its sort of sad that they are doing these numbers now. Not sure if it direct cause and effect, but if it takes ECW and a bunch of has beens who who never as great as the memories people have for them to boost ratings, then wrestling really is in trouble.
But if the numbers really are going up then it is basically the WWE guys finally crossing over, and at least checking it out. Goood or bad, depends on your perspective I guess.
It can be spun positively as it can be said that there are more people watching. But if those people, (more than likely old WWE fans who watch anything that has any wrestler from the 80s or 90s on it) all switch off once the ECW run is over, it wont mean shit. Which is more than likely going to happen.
Because that happens in WWE as well. They roll out a bunch of has beens and geriatrics and their numbers spike for a week or maybe a month, then after the PPV and the guy leaves they go right bck into the toilet again.
Basically it shows how the wrestling audience in general doesnt care about brand name, just the name of the guy on their TV. And it has to be someone old to move the numbers.
so while we can all piss and moan and scream about pushing young guys or let guys make names for themselves, anyone not named Cena and who wasnt around in at least the 90s isnt going to draw anything. So you can take your nexus, your miz, your sheamus, and probably your orton, edge, and even jericho and think what you want about them.
Line them up head to head against guys named HHH, Undertaker, HBK, and throw in some re-runs of benoit (yeah he still draws better than them even after he did what he did) eddie Guerrero and they would blow a current show with current talent out of the water.
Granted some would call those guys 'legends' but they got that way for a reason. Some would like to include orton, jericho, and edge as legends as well, and I am sure Cena will be considered one as well. And I didnt even mention the Rock or a goldberg or even lesner in there because they were on the cusp.
So no matter what your initials are, if you throw a bunch of old timers out there with any sort of name at all your going to get some action. Hell that thing in florida started up by the Mets guy threw Vader in there and it was like a bomb went off at the wrestling blog sites. And vader is about 300 pounds and 20 years past anything resembling his prime.
I just hope these numbers dont dry up once this storyline is over, or that TNA falls in love wit the numbers and makes this a long term thing. Niether of which is a positive IMO.

SD ! is doing twice this score.
You're right it's HALF SD! rating.
What a joke !
TNA used to do those numbers way before Bischogan and EC Dub Washed up guys.
BTW it's the 12-17 who tuned in, not the real wrestling fans with knowledge of it who grew up with the legit EC Dub and know too well that this bunch of has beens is nowhere near the level they were 15 years ago with Paul FN Heyman at helm.
EC Dub without Heyman = FAIL

Speaking as someone who doesnt know, how does this compare to smackdown, raw and NXT ratings?
Posted By: Dee (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 11:32 AM
12-17?
So these new viewers are remembering the good old days, from when they were 3-8. (ECW died around 2001, right?)
If these kids are excited by what they've seen on Youtube, I'm afraid they'll come away a bit disappointed once they see the 2010 version of these guys. TNA should really incorporate its younger guys to take on the ECW crew.
Posted By: Guest#7537 (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 11:32 AM
"The main jump in the ratings was in the male 12-17 demographic, which jumped from a 0.97 to a 1.21. The rating among males 18-34, 18-49, and 12-34, as well as the overall adult 18-49 demographic, did not increase and in some cases even dropped. "

What good news? TNA use to get 1.2 and 1.3 on a regular basis last year, BEFORE they brought in Hogan and his gang and all the washed up WWE and ECW stars and they are still below 1.3.
They give away PPV matches all the time on TV and they still can't get past 1.3
How do you call it good when they spent all that extra money and ratings have gone down? 8000 PPV buys?
Time for you TNA Trolls to get out of your parent's basement and get some sunlight and get a dose of reality!

LOL, you guys are classic TNA Marks. Happy that TNA's #1 show barely beats out WWE 3rd/4th tier show with a bunch of rookies while TNA has all these former stars from the past 30 years.
Those stars should be embarrassed that they can barely beat out the NXT 2 seasons rookies.

Posted By: Guest#3105 (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 12:54 PM
Considering the rising demographic were still watching Captain Planet when ECW was going strong, it's a good sign for TNA. Not just the older fans adding to the ratings. Can't argue with a steady increase over the month or so.

Because PPV buys are pure profit for TNA - doesn't matter if they do 1 or 100,000 buys. TNA's financials look better on paper than WWE because they don't spend much for PPV setup and their house show/TV business continues to run in the black.

No, I just hope that TNA gets more viewers due to a better product, and viewers that will stick around beyond some lame (IMO) storyline that has been done too many times already.
The irnoy is the current generation doesnt have any guys who in 20 or even 25 years could come back and actually make an impact (no pun) like the guys we constantly see paraded around the ring.
Shit, the honky tonk man and red rooster would get more of a pop now than the nexus will in 20 years. The 'stars' back then, even the jobbers were a well known commodity, now you have 3 or 4 guys anyone would even care about seeing today let alone in 15-25 years.
Now as for the specifics which were updated since my first comment. Seems wierd to me. Especially since it was kids watching. And to jump it almost 20%? They must have either given out a new batch of boxes and redid their target groups or people were lying.
Hard to believe that that demographic would rise that much in a week. Especially under the current storylines. Because what wold any kid under the age of 17 want to be watching wrestling (any wrestling) for in the first place. Now if they had had a couple knockouts gimmick matches maybe you could see it, but they havent.
Or they tuned in to watch something else and TNA was on, but that would mean whatever TV provider they had screwed up its proramming guide, which is also alittle far fetched, and it would also mean that enough of them tuned into the 'wrong' programming and stayed long enough to effect the numbers.
I have said it forever, ratings mean almost nothing. And when the ratings are as confounding as these they really become less meaningful. Ratings are only relevant in a long term broad spectrum look, you cant take numbers out of context, they only matter when compared to similar circumstances within the same show. That is one good thing about TNA,they have been around long enough now so that the numbers can almost be used in a way that matters.
So either that night was an anomoly, or somehow they have tapped into some fanbase that didnt know they existed, or more realistically, Nielson or whomever is passing out the boxes or surveys got a bunch of new focus families involved.
Posted By: Rich (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 02:09 PM
As much as I hate to say it, I never watch TNA and I've tuned in the past 2 weeks because of the ECW PPV. Why do I have to be such a Tommy Dreamer mark?
Posted By: Save_Us_Y2J (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 02:36 PM
So let me get this straight, TNA fans bash the WWE because its fan base is children, yet when TNA gets kids watching its great? Talk about hypocrisy.

That's not true at all. Putting on a show isn't cheap, especially a live show like a PPV. If not enough people buy the show to get back that money, then it's a loss.

It's nice to see some people saying positive things about TNA for a change, even though some of these people are probably the haters when they're doing bad.
Also, for you people saying "fail" and "epic fail" all of the goddamned time, HAVE AN ORIGINAL THOUGHT. Quit saying shit that you probably picked up from World of Warcraft, and use your brains for once to come up with something good.

This just in. Breaking news. Wrestling fans liked ECW.

WHO DA HELL R U???

Yeah, these couple weeks have been better than the ENTIRE run of WWECW.
Has enough happened to even call this an angle? Wait until something of substance happens before you guys start blowing each other for a 1.2
It's no coincidence that the slight increase in TNA ratings is practically the same increase WWE has got.

no comments from the haters? :(

Oh please! Right now the fans like the whole ECW thing but sooner or later, it will get old and annoying and TNA will then get back the pathetic ratings they were oh so used to. And then Dixie and the crew will just come up with some other "brilliant" idea that will result in temporary success but will ultimately fail!
So there.

So tell us Methuzela, what age did you start watching wrestling? Most likely you too were one of the kids and not the "real fans" as you so put it when you first started. Typical sandbox mentality.

too bad it won't last.

So more little kiddies watched, which might mean that the rating goes DOWN after school starts!
"Gee, Miss Landers, I'm sorry about my homework, me and Larry Mondello stayed up real late to watch TNA".
Posted By: Beaver Cleaver (Guest) on July 31, 2010 at 12:53 PM
I think you are confused. The little kiddies watch WWE, not TNA.

12-17 demographic

"BTW it's the 12-17 who tuned in, not the real wrestling fans..."
This made me laugh. Basically, you just said that WWE is trying to get "not real wrestling fans". By extension, you're saying that people who watch WWE AREN'T real wrestling fans (since those are the fans -- those 12 to 17 year audience -- that they're catering to).
Way to insult your favorite promotion (as well as yourself), dip-shit.

So kids that are probably too young to remember the original ECW are actually tuning in to see the "washed up never-weres."
iWC logic loses again.
