FCW House Show Report: Punta Gorda, FL
Posted by Chris Lansdell on 07.31.2010

Results from last night's FCW show in Punta Gorda, FL. Report courtesy Bob Vient and PWTorch:
This was the first time in a about seven years since I have been to a live event of any kind. Dusty Rhodes still appears to be a draw in Florida, as they made room for about 800 people and I would say about 700 people showed up. Most of the talent that were not wrestling worked tickets and security.

I had a conversation with Brett DiBiase, the younger brother of Ted DiBiase. Brett said he's recovering from an ACL tear and he told me he will be back in December.

I also got a chance to meet Henry Godwin's son. He's about 6'8" and 275 lbs. He's only been training for about a month and has a pretty good look.

I waited for about 45 minutes to meet Dusty Rhodes before the show. He was very friendly and accommodating to everyone who were there to see him. I took a poster from one of the telephone poles in town and brought it for Dusty to sign. I told him the story about how I got it and he laughed, saying it looked like someone put a bullet in his face on the poster. His WWE Hall of Fame ring was neat to see in person. The kids seemed excited to see him, even though most of them didn't really know who he was.

During the show, a woman sitting in front of me commented that she comes to every event and this was the most people she had seen at a show.

The card was good. I thought the standouts were Bo Rotunda, Big E. Langston, Titus O'Neill, Mike McGillicutty, Husky Harris, Lucky Cannon, Mason Ryan (the kind of guy Vince McMahon is looking for), and Percy Watson (what a gimmick - he will be well on his way even if he does not win NXT).

As for Eli Cottonwood, he appeared to me that he was bored and did not want to be there. Perhaps he was still down from being eliminated from NXT on Tuesday. In the ring, he has no presence and reminds me of Giant Gonzales - a big guy with no ability.

During the show, NXT Season 2 Rookie Lucky Cannon took a spill and hit his head, causing a cut. Tom Pritchard was ringside watching and they got Lucky out of there pretty quickly. They didn't provide an update during the show.

I'd say that about sums up my opinion of Eli. I've watched him on FCW for over a year and to me he is a bathroom break and nothing more.
