On Sgt. Slaughter being hospitalized: "After our Legends of Wrestling Roundtable taping on Wednesday night Sgt Slaughter was hospitalized in Stamford after becoming 'light headed.' The cause of Sarge's discomfort was low blood level which was addressed and he should be good to go as I write this. Sarge was in great spirits Wednesday night after receiving medical care but was kept overnight for observation which is the norm for a matter such as this. Bottom line is that the WWE Hall of Famer will be fine after a few scary moments. "
On Title Unifications: "I'm a proponent of unifying titles in pro wresting. Too many titles waters down the product in my view. When decision makers were still wrestling they would often create meaningless titles to appease egocentric performers or to enhance their own egos."
On working with the Oklahoma football: "Thursday's 'Daily Oklahoman' newspaper, www.oknews.com, featured a photo of yours truly on the front page of the sports section regarding the Oklahoma football announcing position that will be vacated when the legendary Bob Barry, Sr retires after this school year. Many have jumped the gun on speculation on this matter. Don't think that I wouldn't love to have that personal, dream job which is one that I've embraced for years but the process to replace the man who will always be the voice of OU football has not commenced. No matter who is hired I will always be a Sooner fanatic and still plan on attending every game, home and away, for the foreseeable future. This will be a coveted role for any broadcaster who has college football in their DNA. BTW I first listened to Bob Barry, Sr broadcast when I was 9 years old on a small, transistor radio long before the days of ESPN and virtually every Sooner game being televised. I am a product of a radio generation and guys like Jack Buck, Harry Caray, and Larry Munson have always influenced my work and ability to tell a compelling story. "
On Smackdown being live: "Others have asked if WWE would do better if Friday Night Smackdown was always a 'live' show. I don't have a definitive answer but my thoughts are probably not. This assumption is based on the fact that too much credence is put on internet 'spoiler' information making the viewing decision for the fan. I think that the internet, although a vital aspect of information flow, still has such a small audience when compared to the entire TV universe that it has minimal affect to the casual, TV viewer. If the programming is compelling and episodically produced, folks will do all they can to either watch it as it airs or via DVR, etc."
"When decision makers were still wrestling they would often create meaningless titles to appease egocentric performers or to enhance their own egos."
Triple H and the World Heavyweight Championship?
He's right about the spoilers affecting the viewing descions of a small minority, but a live show definitely *feels* different than a taped one. SmackDown would benefit from being live but it would be hell on the production crew, unless they fully switched to airing it live every Tuesday which will never happen.

The problem with Friday Night Smackdown is that it's FRIDAY NIGHT Smackdown.
I'm on my way out the door right now to go drinking. If SD was on Wednesday or Thursday I'd watch it as it airs. But Friday? I'll youtube it Sunday night at the earliest.

You can let spoilers spoil your show, or you can use them as a promotional vehicle.
The key is making a show that fans want to see. Translation: let the boys wrestle.

"I'm a proponent of unifying titles in pro wresting. Too many titles waters down the product in my view". - Jim Ross
I couldn't agree more with JR. Too many titles water down the product and hurt the product in my opinion, especially when they aren't being used properly to help create new stars and further storylines.

JR doesn't want to believe that the internet is bigger than tv... sad

Not sad at all; the internet may be the primary media outlet for a certain demographic, but overall television is still the main media source for news and entertainment.

IF doing Smackdown live on Friday would be hell on the production crew , then get a crew that can handle it. THink about how many concerts go on in one week and those guys can handle the production

I'd disagree with JR, and so would the TNA Impact ratings for their live shows vs taped shows.. same for RAW. Historically, any show that is available with results will always underperform against a live show in which "anything can happen" because it isn't must see TV. If you miss it, its probably because you already read the spoilers or, simply, because you can DVR it. If the show is live, you know something COULD happen that might come out of the blue, aka Nexus' original attack on Cena.
And I think the Sooners management would be idiots not to hire JR. I mean, considering how famous he is and how many people he broadcasted to he'd obviously be the favorite in the running - How many announcers could claim to have announced sports (entertainment) in over 100 countries for 15 years in the WWF/WWE? I count 1993-2008 since he's been off the air after the Bells Palsy in 2008. Plus, he's obviously a huge fan of the team and knows a lot about football and how to announce properly. Some people just mystify me with how they can look a gift horse in the mouth and then send it away.

Well, JR may be a proponent for unifying titles, but why not have the WWE get rid of the titles they don't use like the Tag Team Titles? WWE doesn't know HOW to have a tag team division anymore, so what is the point of even having the titles anymore?

I would kill for Smackdown to be live for one reason: I can ALWAYS hear when they add-in cheers and boos, and I HATE that! For example, when Jack Swagger cashed in money in the bank, I was there live and the place erupted in cheers..it was a great moment. Then i watched Smackdown on Friday, and they had replaced the cheers with boos, and you couldn't even tell that the place was going bananas. Swagger was over, and the tv viewing audience would never know it! Just awful when they insert cheers and boos into WWE blu ray and dvds as well!

"Just awful when they insert cheers and boos into WWE blu ray and dvds as well!"
I buy all the PPV DVDs, and in terms of adding cheers or boos, WWE pretty much leaves footage unchanged if the original airing was live. If the crowd was dead during a PPV match, then the crowd is still dead on the DVD of that event.

I want SD to be live...or left untouched, i hate the pre-recorded crowd sounds, in fact, that's what i hate the most on the entire WWE...
I'm not kidding.
