Various News: Christian's Recovery, NXT On Syfy, Summerslam Buys
Posted by Mitch Michaels on 09.30.2010

Some Thursday night news for you wrestling fans:

- Listen to a radio interview with Mick Foley promoting TNA here.

- WWE.com has an article up on Christian's surgery to repair a torn pectoral muscle. Christian says that he fully expects to recover in four months.

- WWE.com is also reporting that SyFy will re-air this week's NXT at 7 PM tomorrow before the premiere of SmackDown.

- WWE has released the PPV buys and revenue for this year's Summerslam. The event drew 350,00 buys, down from 369,000 last year. There was also a 7% decline domestically - that's a bigger loss in revenue since WWE makes more off of domestic buys. [Credit: PWTorch]

Cena should bring up the buyrate and TV ratings to show that Nexus is bad for the WWE, maybe use Powerpoint charts. That's what I would do.

"There was also a 7% decline domestically - that's a bigger loss in revenue since WWE makes more off of domestic buys."

How could they make less money from a 7% drop in purchases when the price was increased by 12.5% ($40 in 2009, $45 in 2010)? The buyrate would have to drop by 12.5% or more for WWE to make less money.

first off, wwe is not dying. a 1.2 BILLION DOLLAR COMPANY does not die just because some iwc rassling scumbags voice their worthless opinions.

pw torch which reported this number said it was a PRELIMINARY NUMBER. this is not the final number.

look at tna, it would take tna over 3 years of adding their ppvs together just to get close to 350,000.

To be fair going into Summerslam the only match that seemed important was the ONE match between Raw and Nexus

Posted By: Guest#4871 (Guest)  on September 30, 2010 at 10:27 PM

Last years Summerslam had the return of DX, CM Punk v Jeff Hardy in a TLC match to end their awesome feud, and Cena v Orton. This year had one match that was hyped, and that involved a bunch of rookies. I'm surprised there wasn't more of a drop.

Thats nice go join the 2.7 group still watching no one else is around to care anymore no matter how much the wwe tards want to believe they're still a hot company. The ratings drop isn't helping with USA or anyone else associated with the company.

Yeah but TNA is not a 40+ year old company.

It's not hurting USA, either, as a 2.7 is way more than their weekly average, which is in the 1s.

i don't think wwe knows they are rookies. soo if u expect us to think of them as all of a sudden a big deal. good luck lol

"Yeah but TNA is not a 40+ year old company."

So? TNA Impact has been on Thursdays at 9:00 since 2006, yet still has a much smaller audience than some cable shows that started in 2009 or 2010.

Posted By: Guest#6904 (Guest)  on October 01, 2010 at 12:15 AM

Well that should be expected. It was basically a one match show that as a whole just ended up being a throwaway ppv.

try closer to 80 year old company if you are referring to the WWE.

Vince Jr. is the thrid generation to run the promotion.

but your point is still somewhat valid.

The WWE has decades of promotion and brand recognition.

TNA has Hulk Hogan.

you do realise that NXT isn't a reality show and that everyone of the 'rookies' have not only been in wrestling for years, but are all under developmental contracts, right?

LOL. Sad that WWE...while dwindling is still better than pathetic shiTNA.

Christian might make it three at the Royal Rumble 2011 to come in as a surprise entrant while injured and then win it all.

Summerslam is down, anybody surprised? People might watch for a while but when its the same shit over and over again, what do you think they are going to do? Plus, WWE has a lot of "blood feuds" with no blood and it takes away from the product.

If their ratings and buyrates are bad, then putting Smackdown on a channel that not everyone even gets is going to hurt them even more. I know not everyone got MyNetworkTV, but going to an obsure cable channel for a mere $10 million more is only going to hurt them in the long run. SmackDown only got viewers because it was on Network TV. Putting it a weird channel like SyFy (that only some people get) is going to kill it even more so than it already is.

actuaslly raw at 2.7 last monday was the second highest rated show on cable behind monday night football/

wwe wants to get back into the 3's and if they can do that during football season then that will be a huge success.

tna likes to act all big and mighty and their mentally deficient fan base talks a big game but when wwe kicks their ass, their stupid fans cry that tna is only an 8 year old company.

And your suprise entrant into the Royal Rumble is . . .

People who argue over ratings numbers need to get out of their parents' basements and get a damn life. If you enjoy a company's product, watch their shows and buy their merch. Otherwise, don't even bother wasting your time and others' with your ranting and bemoaning of a company which you claim to hate but can't stop talking about.

Right now the industry is in a rebuilding phase of the lifecycle. The old guard is leaving and the new blood need to be given an opportunity to step up. A side effect of that transition is that ratings tend to wane as not everyone is sold on the new talent yet.

ROFLMAO , the second biggest PPV of the year is doing half the buyrates of a normal UFC PPV !

This is hilarious, I can't wait to see Vince hitting the panic button and busting his head's veins one by one !

When you serve crap meal after crap meal, customers are tired and are dinning elsewhere, to a better , more respectful and tasteful restaurant.

What goes around comes around, SummerCrap was an abortion of a PPV, I'm so glad it BOMBED money wise and same for RAW since two weeks !

How SWEET It IS !

I'd hardly call 19,000 fewer buys that WWE id dying...

Oh wait 19,00 buys is 2 months worth of TNA PPV buys. No wonder the TNAndroids are out in force... right SeanTNAsshole!

SyFy has close to the same distribution as USA Network. Plus, around 18 million homes that didn't have access to the show on MyNetwork TV will have access now that it's on SyFy.

Smackdown will be seen in more homes on SyFy now then it's old home. It also gets picked up on dricet TV now too.
