Various News: The Rock’s New DVD, Tiger Mask Story, Dr. Death Dies & New CMLL Licensing Deal
Some news from around the wrestling world on your Saturday morning:
– Dwayne Johnson’s Faster will be released on DVD and Blu-Ray on March 1st.
– Paul Lincoln, who was wrestled as the masked Dr. Death in the 1950s and 1960s in Europe, has passed away due to complications of Parkinson’s Disease and cancer. There’s an article about Lincoln here.
– A number of news organizations are reporting on the anonymous charitable acts done lately in Japan, giving credit to the cartoon character Tiger Mask. It’s the same Tiger Mask that inspired the masked wrestling character. Read about it here.
– One Entertainment is now the exclusive licensing agent for Mexico’s CMLL. “Lucha Libre has long crossed over mainstream popular culture through the quirkiness of its environment, memorable movies, and striking visuals,” said OE managing partner David Gebel. “It consists of one of the richest graphic sceneries available in the world of licensing, which truly sets it apart from other forms of the sport. This brand triggers a sense of culture, tradition, and honor.”
The deal is hoping to include action figures and clothing, among other forms of licensing.
