Ohio Valley Wrestling taped its television show last night in Louisville, the night after OVW drew a legit standing room only sell out for its “Homecoming III” show. The attendance tonight was around 80. Dean Hill, Gilbert Corsey, and Kenny Bolin were the TV announcers. Ron Hed and Brittany DeVore were the ring announcers.

Last week’s show, which was episode #600 of OVW television, did air at 1 pm in Louisville, so they are now in their new time slot here, they just started it one week late for whatever reason. Some talents that worked the “Homecoming III” alumni show, such as Derrick King, were expected to stick around and work the TV taping tonight as well, but that did not happen. But, there were some debuts on this show. All roads in OVW right now lead to the March 5th Saturday Night Special show. A ladder was set up outside of the ring all night long because on March 5th “Mr. Media” Cliff Compton will defend the OVW title in a triple threat ladder match against Mike Mondo and “Lowrider” Matt Barela.

1. Benjamin Bray & Jason Wayne beat Shiloh Jones & Elvis

Dark match. Jones is the only OVW alumni show guy that worked the TV taping as well, albeit in a dark Match. Wayne completely overpowered Elvis early. Bray got slammed off the top rope by Jones when Elvis ran interference. Bray took the heat. Bray ended up brawling with Jones on the outside. Meanwhile in the ring, Wayne gave Elvis a full nelson into a big slam for the win. Good looking finish. Wayne is an impressive rookie with size. Remember that name.

2. Rudy Switchblade beat Mohammad Ali Vaez w/Mr. B to win the OVW TV title

This was the start of the TV taping. Switchblade beat Adam Revolver last week to earn this title shot. Switchblade looked sharp right from the start here, causing Vaez to bail out to the floor. Switchblade dove off the apron, which took out Mr. B, and sent his sunglasses flying. B was down for quite awhile after that. Vaez took a cheap shot to gain a small advantage, and kept yelling “Three time”, which is the number of times he’s held the TV title. He couldn’t maintain any advantage for long though. Switchblade was consistently one step ahead of Vaez. Switchblade used roundhouse back kicks to the back of Vaez’ head several times. Switchblade went up for his Frogsplash finisher, but Vaez got out of the way and Switchblade crashed to the canvas. Vaez went for his running neckbreaker finisher, but Switchblade got out of it. Mr. B, finally back on his feet, got up on the apron, but Switchblade slugged him off. Vaez went for his running neckbreaker again, but Switchblade simply hung on to the ropes to block it. Switchblade then rolled up a stunned Vaez to win the bout, and the TV title. Nice match.

Jim Cornette got in the ring. Out came OVW champion “Mr. Media” Cliff Compton, wearing a fur coat, with his entourage that now includes Mo Green, wearing a different sports coat, Attorney Christian Mascagni, who took his neck brace off in the ring, the Paparazzi guy, and Big Rocko Bellagio. Compton said his coat was a “$100,000 dollar Chinchilla fur coat, and called Mascagni his “$1,000 dollar an hour Lawyer”. They talked about the March 5th triple threat ladder match against Mike Mondo and “Lowrider” Matt Barela, with the stipulation being this is Mondo and Barela’s last shot at the title.

This storyline with these three feuding over the belt has been going on since last September, and still nothing has been really settled. Mascagni added that Cornette also agreed that he and Mo Green could not be banned from ringside for the ladder match. Cornette agreed, but said that Big Rocko Bellagio would be barred from the arena that night. Cornette said he started thinking, and wouldn’t past Mascagni or Green to interfere, so he brought out Officer Steve Yancy of the Jefferson Count Sheriffs department, who will have both Green and Mascagni handcuffed to him for the ladder match. Mascagni on one arm, Green on the other. Oh man, not Yancy again. He was heavily involved in the “Rage in the cage” triple threat cage match in January, and I didn’t think he did very well, but he brings a lot of people out, so here he is again. Sigh. He annoys me. Yancy said that also on March 5th by his side would be his cousin, running back Michael Bush of the NFL Oakland Raiders. Bush is from Louisville, I didn’t know he and Yancy were related, or if that’s legit or not. Bush was just arrested in southern Indiana on a drunk driving charge about two weeks ago.

3. Mike Mondo beat Chase Owens

Far as I know, this was Owens’ debut in OVW. He’s from the east Tennessee/Virginia area. Also Rudy Charles was the referee here, not sure if this was his OVW debut or not. First time I’ve seen him here. I enjoy his refereeing. Both guys hit some moves early, then Mondo snapped Owens’ throat across the top rope. Owens returned the favor later in the match. Mondo was cocky here, and tried to intimidate Owens some. Mondo also tried the old fake injury bit a few times, it worked the first time, not the second time. Later in the match Owens scored with a big running kick. Owens, however, missed a top rope dive, and Mondo then finished him off with the “Gut check”. Match was alright, but the crowd was quiet during it. It’s interesting to see guys like Owens come in here, who seems to be a good young talent, but felt like he didn’t totally fit in, though he worked with Mondo fine. It’s just something about OVW that’s hard to explain, it’s like a different level or something. Not even saying a higher level exactly, though in some cases it is, just different.

They turned up the commentary at the desk for a bit, and threw it to clips from last week when the OVW Southern Tag team champions, Paredyse & Ryan Nemeth beating Mohammad Ali Vaez & Randy Terrez to retain the titles, but then in the post match Fighting Spirit(Christopher Silvio & Raphael Constantine) ran in and destroyed Nemeth and Paredyse.

Back to now, Jim Cornette got in the ring and out came Paredyse and Ryan Nemeth, with Nemeth holding his side, said to be bruised Kidneys from last weeks attack by Fighting Spirit. Cornette announced that Nemeth & Paredyse would be defending the OVW Southern Tag Team titles against Fighting Spirit on March 5th at the Saturday Night Special. Nemeth said if anyone would have told him a month ago that he’d be a champion with Paredyse, and what a great partner Paredyse would be, he would have told them they were crazy. Nemeth said Fighting Spirit were nothing but back stabbers. Nemeth asked Paredyse about suffering a dislocated jaw last week, but he seemed fine now. Paredyse said he found something to pop it out with. heh.

Paredyse put his hands on Cornette somewhat seductively. Paredyse said since he and Nemeth are going to tag team exclusively, that they should do some tag team building exercises. Paredyse said they need a name, that all great teams have a name. Nemeth asked Paredyse what he had in mind. Paredsye suggested names like “The Love Muscles”, and “Platonic guy friends 2011/sweaty dudes working out together forever.com”. The crowd was rolling with laughter. Paredyse said all tag teams need moves, and he found this great book in a store where all the windows were darkened. Cornette looked at the book, then threw it down saying you’d have to be double jointed to do moves like that.

Paredyse then said they need to work on their tag team look. Paredyse said the other Diva’s in the lockeroom said that Nemeth looks kinda bland, and produced a pair of pink panties for Nemeth, who laughed it off. Paredyse then showed his “Our life” scrapbook for the he and Nemeth’s tag titles, and got real serious and cut an angry promo on Fighting Spirit, saying Hell has no fury like a Paredyse scorned. Paredyse was absolutely fantastic here, he hit it out of the park, and the crowd loved it, except for the few old bags that loved Nemeth, and are now disappointed he’s teaming with Paredyse.

4. Raul Lamotta beat Shawn Shultz w/Tony Lucassio

Now sure if this was Shawn Shultz’ OVW debut, but it’s the first time I’ve seen him here. Lucassio, wearing a Leopard print vest, did the ring introduction for Shutlz. Lucassio has annoyed me in the past, but I thought he was really good tonight, showed a lot of personality. Shultz on the other hand, surprisingly, didn’t show that much personality tonight. Prince Bolin angrily came out and joined his dad Kenny, Dean Hill and Gilbert Corsey on commentary. Back and forth match, but not overly exciting. The same thing I said about Chase Owens applied to Shultz, didn’t look like he totally fit in here. Sort of surprised me, I thought he’d fit rignt in great here. Shultz scored with a slop drop, and both guys landed a lot of moves. Lamotta got Shultz down in a surfboard, then stomped him face first on the mat. Lucassio got up on the apron, but it backfired as Lamotta rolled up Shultz for the win. Prince Bolin’s charge, James “Moose” Thomas, hit the ring in the post match and gave Lamotta the “Moose kick”. Thomas then took no prisoners as he gave both Shultz and Lucassio the “Moose kick”, and left everyone laying.

The story is Thomas and Bolin are frustrated at their lack of upward mobility in OVW, thinking they should be in the OVW heavyweight title picture, so this was a statement. I don’t understand why a guy like Shultz would debut with a manager, then lose clean to a glorified jobber like Lamotta, then get destroyed by Moose. Gee, thanks for coming Shultz and Lucassio. I guess they were just passing thru. This whole match was just a backdrop for the Moose Thomas stuff.

5. “Lowrider” Matt Barela beat Randy Terrez

This was the TV main event. Both guys lit each other up with chops early. Barela then took over with several scoop slams, and just plain old beat the crap out of Terrez. Barela threw Terrez into the ladder that was set up outside of the ring, and then threw Terrez into the sidewall. Barela jumped off the apron to the outside, but Terrez moved, and Barela smacked against the sidewall chest first very hard. Damn. Terrez took over in the ring, working on the injured chest/ribs of Barela. Terrez put Barela in the bow and arrow submission, then picked up Barela in a firemans carry and somersaulted down on top of Barela’s ribs. Barela, on sheer guts and will, gave Terrez a suplex. Barela came back with a lot of moves, but could not put the pesky, not to mention tenacious, Terrez away. Barela got frustrated and started punching Terrez in the corner and ignoring the ref.

While Barela argued with the referee, Big Rocko Bellagio came out and draped a chain over the bottom rope. Terrez grabbed the chain, hit Barela with it and got the win. But Officer Steve Yancy came out, stooged it off to the referee, so the ref restarted the match, and Barela hit his standing reverse neckbreaker on Terrez moments later for the win. I liked the match, but hated the lame and predictable finish. It’s all they can do though with someone as inexperienced as Yancy. Like I said, he annoys me. I think he hurts the show quality really. Yancy was just standing in the ring as Barela got the win. Why was Yancy just standing in the ring then? Looked ridiculous. The more I see of Terrez, the more I appreciate what they guy can do in the ring. He was kept pretty strong here too, giving Barela one heck of a battle.

6. The Elite (Ted McNaler & Adam Revolver) vs Fighting Spirit (Christopher Silvio & Raphael Constantine) went to a double count out

Dark match. Rudy Charles was the referee. Supposedly this would be a heel vs heel match, but The Elite played the babyface role here. Back when Fighting Spirit were the good guys, these two teams fueded heavily, and traded the OVW Southern Tag Team titles back and forth, for the better part of 2010. They faced each other so many times, at one point in August they had a match where the stip was they couldn’t face each other again for 90 days, and for the most part lived up to the stip, but couldn’t wait for it to be up. So lots of history here, and these two teams usually have good matches together. Both teams started out exchanging mic work, they still don’t like each other, despite all being bad guys now. But they all seemingly came to an agreement. Since nothing was on the line here, both teams agreed to just not wrestle and take the night off. The Elite went to leave, but Fighting Spirit attacked them from behind, and the match was back on. Felt like it would be a stall-fest for awhile. Constantine got “mad” at the crowd for calling him by his old ring name of “Fang”.

Constantine went out and threw two chairs into the ring, but it didn’t amount to anything. Both Silvio and Revolver raked each others eyes, and while blinded both went to the wrong corner, and got their eyes raked again. Silvio and Revolver then hit each other at the same time and both went down. McNaler gave Constantine a Butterfly suplex, but Silvio cut him off. McNaler then took the heat for awhile. Silvio at one point blasted McNaler in the face with a running kick to the corner. All four guys ended up in the ring, and all landing huge moves on each other. McNaler with a big spear on Constantine, but Silvio took out McNaler with a wicked superkick. All four went to the outside and brawled, and Rudy Charles counted both teams out.

More to like than not like tonight, but the Officer Yancy stuff is a turn off for me.
