Sting Talks About Jeff Hardy Victory Road Situation
Posted by George H. Sirois on 04.09.2011
What did he think?
Sting recently spoke with The Daily Star about the finish of his Victory Road match against Jeff Hardy. The match was cut short due to Hardy not being in the condition to perform.
On Jeff Hardy: "I don't want to do anything to harm him. He has personal issues, everyone knows that. But some things are true and some are not. What is true is that it all came to a head that week and hit really big that night. I hated what happened because I wanted to give fans a great match. But I realize it had to happen the way it did."
After the match: "After all was said and done I came to the back and made sure he was OK. He is OK and he's been talking to people close to him a lot."

What a class act. If I were Sting I would have been very up-set.

"He has personal issues, everyone knows that."
Yes, he has. Those "personal issues" are the drugs that he takes. Unless there's supposed to be something else that "everybody knows".

So, Sting...really...whats worse? Going to the WWE and maybe..maybe be put in a storyline is pg-13?...or being part of a rip off of fans because your company couldn't think on their feet with a gun pointed to their head? "Ambush" Hardy so he couldn't come out...throw in RVD, Anderson, Angle..Flair! Anyone..but at least TRY to give us our monies worth.Please.

Sting = classy.
Posted By: Steve307 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 12:05 PM
Yep. And a real professional too. After the situation that TNA put him no one could blame him if he blasted the company here. But once again, Sting leads by example. A lot of folks, both in the industry and outside of it, could learn from how Sting is handling himself here.
And Jeff Hardy's the opposite of classy. Same goes for TNA for putting Sting in that situation. Let's hope they learn from this and never compromise their most loyal and professional worker again.

regardless, they're still personal issues and sting is a class act. Sadly the majority of the comments here will not be.

Even though the same person has already noted it four times, I just figured I should mention that Sting, boy he is a real class act.
Posted By: Guest#0693 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 12:44 PM
And my respect for the Stinger just went up.
Posted By: neverAcquiesce (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 12:48 PM
Sting is a class act here, and he made the right choice to stay in TNA. Would I have loved to see Sting wrestle dream matches in WWE? Yes of course, but for Sting it clearly was best to stick with a company that appreciates and respects him. Knowing that Vince could do whatever with his legacy on a whim is not a great thing for someone with values and morals to deal with. Vince might not have intended to do anything, but once Sting signed that contract he was signing everything away. Sting made the right choice in my opinion.

TNA didnt beat WWE in no thursday night war. there is no such thing as a thursday night war. superstars was on 8 and tna impact was on at 9 to 11. TNA marks are always reaching..

I do wonder how his behavior wouldve been recieved if this were 15 or so years ago when a lot of the guys still kept the oldschool mentality. Still, its not like this was Hardy's first screw up within TNA. Can really see the contrast here, as WWE was willing to release Mickie James for essentially being a bitch on tour, but TNA will keep a drug addict with a history of missing shows.
Posted By: Redhotrash (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 01:38 PM
i bet Sting feels bad he resigned with TNA right now.

I think Victory Road is cursed. That one year Sting forgot the finish to the match and wouldn't take the bump form the muscle buster and now this.

Sting, just go to WWE. I'm sure you will be a huge star there.

"I hated what happened because I wanted to give fans a great match. But I realize it had to happen the way it did.""
You mean TNA couldn't have sent someone other than Jeff Hardy out to wrestle in his place?
Posted By: Guest#2649 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 02:03 PM
Sting = classy and sweet as always lol, but to think that most initially blamed Sting for it going on about his condition or what not and saying that he needs to hang it up permanently, smh. Well he is not 30 anymore but still every now and then he could be used for something worth the while. To guest 3186 it would be nice if you gave some of us here who still acts like they have sense a little bit of credit, I've yet to see a real ignorant comment yet. I wonder did Jeff do this just because he knew he wouldn't get the belt back or that his trial was looming? Well whatever but I know he was wrong for that and poor Sting, now not only is his name tied to that Starrcade 97 BS but now nearly 15 years later, some more....well...'ish sadly
and to 5010 what ELSE are you alluding to, (the "other" rumors I suppose, ummm nevermind)
Posted By: anon22 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 02:06 PM
What good does it do for Jeff Hardy to talk to people close to him? He's been through this before. Just going around in circles.
He will end up like Scott Hall and Jake Roberts, in and out of rehab.
Posted By: Guest#8137 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 02:06 PM
Always loved Sting in the ring. I also have a lot of respect for the guy outside it. I think he is the only wrestler to say no to WWE. Given the trainwreck WWE is becoming, I respect him for it.
Posted By: JM (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 02:11 PM
oh and unless they just put quotes together, the part of "I don't want to do anything to harm him."
That kinda sounded a lil' scarry, unless he was talking about going through with the match, and I bet he wanted to kick the everloving shit out of him but forgot that he would get in trouble too ala Kong
Posted By: anon22 (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 02:12 PM

Sting, since I was kid will always be my favorite wrestler. This shows that the guy is a good person. Jeff Hardy just needs to stop messing up. It seems that this guy always ruins himself when he's on top, or part of a big storyline where he is the champ. That's what happened in WWE, this guy was over huge, and he blew it. It sucks because Jeff has so much potential.

Bullshit! When Jim Ross or any body else for that matter in WWE politly declines to give an actiual opinion of another wrestler, who deserves to be verbally bashed the IWC bitces and whines like little girls.
Sting is just being nice for the sake of being nice and doesn't want to hurt Jeff Hardy's precious snowflake feelings or upset anyone in TNA since it is inevetable that even after Jeff goes though detox and rehab 5-6 times TNA will STILL give him a job AND the championship.
Be a man Sting. Call Jeff Hardy what he is. A drug addicted scum, over rated piece of crap.

Posted By: Yup (Guest) on April 09, 2011 at 03:46 PM
Sting is beyond classy. Jeff Hardy was in no condition to wrestle a match, and when Sting says 'it had to happen the way it did' he means he had to end it quickly because he wasn't about to put himself in a position where Hardy could have potentially hurt him. Technically, Sting could sue TNA for unsafe working conditions and at the very least threaten to leave if Hardy isn't dealt with. Sting isn't the bad guy in this equation...I don't even 100% blame Jeff for being a drug addict. The blame firmly falls on TNA as a company, especially their management and whoever made the decision that the match would happen. They should have scrapped that, given us a different main event as there were any number of guys who could have wrestled in Jeff Hardy's place and the match (while not announced/advertised) would have been 1000x better. Fans wouldn't have felt as cheated and TNA wouldn't have had to take the unprecedented step of having to APOLOGIZING for putting on that garbage PPV!
So, Sting is beyond class. He's loyal, not suing the company, and not pulling strings because of what the company did to him. He has the belt and all the power...even though TNA isn't a threat, you don't think that Vince wouldn't mind signing him away and taking their world title, do you? If it wasn't Sting in the equation, the only man who has never caved in and worked for Vince McMahon when he made many offers, whoever else in the company (besides Jarrett) probably would have jumped. Kennedy, Matt Morgan, even RVD all would have justifiably jumped back to WWE for the right offer after TNA basically almost killed them by putting them in the ring with an intoxicated Jeff Hardy. Plus, if they were leaving and wanted to take the belt with them, would JEFF HARDY- sober or not- be able to stop them if it turned into a shoot? Look how Sting held his scrawny ass to the mat when he legit tried to kick out of the early finish...

The only thing I would hope Sting meant by, "it was the way it had to be done", is that they had to prove a point to Hardy and stop hiding "what everyone already knows" and how it affects their shows and the other talent. I don't really believe that, but a little tough love from TNA might go along way for Jeff to reconsider his actions. Still, they could have just sent him home 'indefinitely' and rolled Anderson and the other guy out there for a three way to end it.

He could have been in one of the biggest dream matches of all time? Really? And you are basing that assumption on the IWC's chubby for the promos that WERE ALWAYS SUPPOSED TO BE THE UNDERTAKER RETURNING?
Vince has put PLENTY of people in that situation over the years. He only started "wellness" and all the other stuff because his steroid trial could have brought him down.
Wrestling respects NO MAN. WWE/TNA/ROH/Indies... they are all interested in one thing, making cash and paying out as little as possible.

Being TNA champion isn't at all that different from being the most filled diaper in the pile, except that even the diapers know they stink.
Sting should retire, sign a Legends contract so his REAL fans will finally get a dvd set worth watching.

Pretty classy, Stinger.
Lucky for Jeff that TNA didn't get ahold of Bob Holly and somehow match him up with Hardy at VR. Holly thinks kicking a guy in the nuts only six times and stomping on his face till his nose is busted is a sign of restraint.
