Various News: Punk's Status, Bret Hart Signing, AAA Show
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 06.21.2011

- There are differing opinions from within WWE as to CM Punk's status with the company. A lot of people believe that he's done, though others think he's either re-signed or is about to. Of course, the tweets he has sent out are identical to his ROH angle of the Summer of Punk in 2005.

- AAA's next big show is Heroes Inmortales IV, which will be at at Arena Monterrey on October 8th.

- Bret Hart has an autograph signing scheduled for June 25th in Victoria, BC from 2:00-4:00. Autographs are $25 each or 3 for $60 and include a photo.

Ugh just go away already Punk. This smark darling HAS been given a couple of big opportunities with the title so don't be acting like WWE didn't try. Punk's pretentious prancing makes me cringe, it's fake and esoteric. I'm not saying I like predictable, juveniile gimmicks but Punk reminds me of Lady Gaga-somebody who articulates everything in some smart aleck way, instead of giving a straight answer. He doesn't have a particularly great look for television either. Aesthetics are real important for WWE, why would they want to give a major push to a sleazy emaciated hobo with bad tattoos all over him huh? Furthermore he's supposed to be really unfriendly in real life, who wants someone who talks down to fans when he's out of character on the street?

Obviously its a work.

I feel like I should apply to write an article for this site or start my own site that has actual smarts and intellect instead of just smarks and marks.

"so don't be acting like WWE didn't try."

Your diction is truly a marvel.

Now onto the rest of your statement. WWE does care about how it's wrestlers conduct themselves outside of the ring with regards to their gimmicks. Case and point, Serena Deeb was working a Straight Edge gimmick with the SES and was let go for partying to much and not sticking to her gimmick. Punk's character is supposed to be an unpleasant, condescending, jerk. He is very adept at this character and a lot of wrestlers have said in the past that their best characters have been ones that are their own personalities amplified.

How Punk reminds you of Lady Gaga is beyond me, but if you can make that connection, good for you I guess.

As far as aesthetics are concerned, the most important thing is for you to have a unique look that stands out. Nobody else really resembles CM Punk in the company and nobody else cuts promos in the same manner, which means that he is doing his job well.

You don't like Punk. That's okay, it's your opinion and it is a valid one. Your evidence to back up that dislike is completely bogus though. You don't back up your opinion with anything close to a rational statement.

To answer your open ended question; I would much rather have CM Punk putting on matches like he did on Raw last night than watch the six man tag match that was the main event.

this reminded me of jericho.

WWE pushing punk tho so i doubt he really leaving or WWE wouldn't be having punk win cleanly against guys like alberto, rey, kofi, and cena and they wouldn't be having punk wrestle for title in main event if he were leaving. punk just taking time off.

@Guest#6717,

A couple holes there. First, unlike some guys, Punk's tattoos DO have meaning to them. Cole wasn't just feeding a line there at Capitol Punishment. Want to talk about size? Ok, well last I checked Christian wasn't exactly huge, nor is Cody Rhodes or Daniel Bryan, yet the IWC seems to like them just fine. Oh and then there were these two other guys...what are their names....oh yeah, HBK and Jericho ring a bell? What Punk brings is great ring psychology, and mic skills that other workers would kill for. Does he come off as an ass? Um, yeah, that's kind of the point. Dude is a heat magnet, and has a character that could easily swing face if WWE wanted him to. Lastly, if you want to talk friendlyness, Orton has certainly had some bad moments if you remember. Besides, do we know of anything specific that Punk has done besides that one time a fan tried to ATTACK him, and he retaliated? You know, if that's all you're going on, you should know that Punk isn't the only one to have ever done that, and in that situation he has every right to knock the jackass out.

How is no one complaining about WWE using old ideas. Like R-Truth being a conspiracy victim which TNA did back in 2002. There's this Punk thing as well which is from ROH obviously.... are we just going to pretend and give WWE the credit for a creative idea even though they didnt have to come up with it? What am I saying? Of course you WWE loyalist will look the other way on stuff like this.

People who don't like Punk are just Trolls. He's the best thing going in wrestling TODAY! Someone bitched that he is "mean to fans in real life" well John Cena is the best when it comes to being good to the fans yet you trolls still bitch about him! Go eat a dick!

He was given a chance to hold the belt during wwe's downseason and never given any kind of fair shake as a top guy. Despite your dislike of him he's one of the best the E has on the mike and in the ring. Name anybody else who can work a crowd or a good to great match with just about anybody on the roster right now. As for his look... he's the same size as Bret and HBK were at their peak and look what they accomplished without having a 'great look' either. Get over the tattoos. Over half the roster has ink now. I think his character still has a ton of upside, ala chris jericho from a few years back but with it's own unique spin. Maybe you're just trolling here, but that's my take on Punk.

When I said Punk is unfriendly to the fans, I'm not talking about staying in character. For real the guy is a straight up douche. His attitude was well-documented even before WWE.

Laycool were heels on TV but were nice to fans outside the ring in real life, just to give another example.

Wrong. Triple H is still the best heel in the business despite being 40+ and probably in the final stages of his wrestlign career. Punk, Miz, Del Rio, Truth, Cole, Vickie...NONE of them can top how intense a heel Triple H can be.

Do you really think that when Punk signed his last contract a few years ago, his last day would just happen to fall on a PPV? The date is definitely a work, which makes me think this is one too.

I think Punk just asked for some time off and this is how they'll write him off for awhile. Same with what they did to Big Show recently.

Triple H still the best heel? Yeah right, he is one of the stalest heels of all time he peeked as a heel in 2003.
The only thing worse then him as a heel is him as a face the only thing that changes is that he will smile and giggle more, and tell some of the lamest jokes this side of a disney channel show. The only reason his heel persona is so intense is because he would do just about the same things every feud. Punk is a way better heel.

WORK

Posted By: Smarky pants (Guest)  on June 21, 2011 at 10:35 PM

1) If memory serves me, I heard that the WWE was going to be replacing the ghastly looking spinning belt around the time of SummerSlam. Having Punk win and then "leave" would allow them to work the belt into an angle

2) The WWE has shown a recent willingness to let an angle play out when they scheduled The Rock to face Cena at Mania next year. Punk could take up until the Rumble, or even the Raw after the February PPV. The heat they would get for Punk vs. Taker or HHH is VASTLY improved if he takes time off, comes back and gets challenged by one of two of the most tenured wrestlers in the company who takes offense to what he did.

3) Punk, regardless of legitimacy or not, has found a niche with the on-line wrestling community. Most of his fans are adults or "smarks". Look at all the interest this has garnered him.

Is it an angle? Probably, though nobody here knows for certain. But, it has generated a TON of interest in an otherwise meaningless PPV in July, allows them to have a new angle leading up to SummerSlam, then can start planting more seeds for the Rumble and Mania around the Survivor Series.

False! He's really pretty. He's the cutest wrestler in wwe

Aww man, Punk is leaving?!? I don't know what to think... I bet Cena's behind this. He's always rapping and stuff, and, well, his shirts are really bright and colorful. Punk is cool. He's straight edge, and so am I... Sort of. I mean, I don't drink that much, which is basically like not drinking at all, right? If Punk leaves, I don't know what I'll do. Who will get the title if he wins and walks out? Will Vince let that happen?

It's all a work!!

He loses at MITB, takes a few months off, returns at the Royal Rumble, wins the Royal Rumble, beats Cena & Rock & Orton in three seperate matches at Wrestlemania to become the undisputed WWE Champion & World Heavyweight Champion.

At least that's how I would book it!!!
