Smackdown Stars Will Appear Every Week on RAW
Posted by George H. Sirois on 08.29.2011

Triple H has announced that "for the foreseeable future," stars from Smackdown will be appearing on RAW every week.

There has been talk of this several weeks ago, since the company has been unhappy with how Smackdown house shows have been drawing. The belief is that talent would be in a better position to draw if they were seen on Monday's TV.

I hope they dont have too many guys taking up RAW time. I dont think Id be into watching Smackdown twice.

The logical thing to do would be to allow RAW guys on Smackdown to help the Smackdown house shows and ratings.

BOOO!

How does that make sense. Why wouldnt they just trade a couple of wrestlers from both shows. (A real trade too...none of this Cena to RAW and SD! BS.)

Make the SD! House shows more appealing instead of making these guys travel out the ass because the higher ups dont know how to "Shake things up" for SD!...

They really have no one to blame but themselves. The draft left Randy Orton and Sheamus as the only truly established main eventers on Smackdown. It's nice to see guys like Christian, Rhodes, Bryan, etc. get more air time but realistically speaking, the brands aren't balanced.

Now guys like Miz, Ziggler, and Morrison who SHOULD be pushed are meandering on RAW. Things will only be worse with guys appearing on both shows.

Smackdown will also have raw stars on the shows.

What you mean be worse? Now stars will get more air time apperaing on both shows. And I know u, I know ur a tna mark. Why don't you go f yourself.

Trust me guys, they've had one roster on both shows with WAAAAY more star power than now. I'm sure there will be room for everybody as long as the same wrestlers don't wrestle every show.

End the brand split and I might consider watching full time again. Maybe.

First THQ announces that the new WWE game is called WWE '12 because people dont buy into the brand extension anymore, now the new COO announces that Raw and Smackdown are gonna share wreslters now. Makes a lil bit of sense. Plus you make Smackdown your B show and add a few Raw stars to try and make it look better which pretty much fails every time.

Awesome grasp of the English language.

Yes, a handful of main eventers will get more time that they don't need. However, everyone that DOES need time won't get it. On RAW tonight alone there was no Del Rio, Morrison, or Riley. Why? Because that time was set aside for Orton, Christian, and Sheamus.

On the flip side, Smackdown might not have as much time for Bryan, Rhodes, and Barrett among others because now we need to see guys like Cena twice a week.

The rich get richer. The poor get poorer.

I'm not sure about your TNA comment. I've always seen potential in the product but I can't get behind it because of too many false pushes and a lack of a clear direction. But even if I did like it... so what? Are people incapable of being fairly critical of one company if they like another? Has the Internet jaded us that much?

3 times on ppv weeks

To be fair, Del Rio is on vacation, and both Morrison and Riley have been dead weight lately.

Last I checked, Del Rio was on a scheduled vacation tonight and will be back tomorrow.

Since coming back Morisson has not been the same and has not been pushed much for that matter.

Not sure about Riley but they did show a nice video package of him so it's not like he was forgotten.

As for the smack down side I cannot comment because I don't watch it. Just glad I will be seeing Orton on Monday Nights again as he is the only guy I miss from the last draft.

Lastly, why do so many people love Daniels? I understand the guy was great in the indies and what not, but he has not had any great matches and please don't tell me its because of the styles because other wrestlers have great matches within the WWE style. His Mic skills are not much to talk about and the fans have not really gotten behind him. Hopefully money in the bank will be the catapult that puts him over the edge but I have yet to see the reason why so many people adore this guy.

HHH should have stood up and just said "FUCK THE BRAND EXTENSION"
When he 're-signed' Morrison, it was a perfect excuse to shuffle him off to Smackdown, where he could shine in their wide open main event. The same could have been done for Miz, Ziggler, or Swagger

Posted By: Guest#2201 (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 01:39 AM

I like the idea myself because combining the brands allows the WWE to follow up on storylines and angles more quickly, and it also generates a lot of buzz for potential dream matchups and rivalries.

Posted By: TK03000 (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 02:17 AM

I have so many mixed feelings about this. Part of me wants to scream "YES! No more brand extension!" But then I realize just how shitty Smackdown is, and realize "Oh, god..."

Believe me. NOBODY outside of the IWC gives two shits about Smackdown. Probably since the IWC are the only people willing to spend their Friday nights (Primetime, no less) watching the SyFy channel. And also cause not a single significant person is on that show besides Randy Orton.

I kinda hope Smackdown is finally put out of its misery to teach WWE a lesson. It was beyond stupid to go off of network TV. That was the only reason people watched Smackdown in the first place. And for a measly $10 million more, they could've killed Smackdown for good. Well, that *plus* the whole Edge/Batista/Undertaker leaving stuff.

It really is an ideal time to end the brand split completely, provided they find a good balance of TV time for the talent that deserves it, or proceeds to earn it. So I hope Raw talent on SD also extends beyond this week.

Hell, if nothing else, it'll just be great to have JR call a few more Daniel Bryan matches. Also, if they play things right (a huuuge "if", granted), having one deep talent pool in both the main event and mid card divisions rather than two shallow pools on two shows would be nothing but good.

I'm gone for not even a week and already the company is worse.

Posted By: Todd Gridham (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 05:23 AM

They have to keep things seperate in order to continue having more than 3 or 4 guys keep the rest of the roster at midcard or lower. However what I would do is make sure different people populate a different show each week.

ie. Week 1 - Randy Orton and Mark Henry are playing main event on Smackdown and the following week they play it on Raw and one week Cena and Del Rio are main eventing Raw and then the following week Smackdown. Means plenty of people still gets pushed and brings an end to the failed brand split

Posted By: RockerDropper (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 05:45 AM

in other words, both shows will now be over saturated by 6 or 7 guys.

i always said, if they end the brand extension. expect to see cena, rko, hhh, and del rio alot more and see alot less of santino, ryder, rhodes, dibiase, bryan, mcintyre and so on.

Maybe this will eventually lead into having ONE top WWE champion instead of two or three and finally replacing those tired old belts with something fresh and respectable looking. I highly doubt it though because of WHC and spinner belt replicas merchandise sales.

Anyone compared the average size of the roster pre-brand split & the size of the two current rosters combined?

Potential releases could follow.

Posted By: Chopsuey (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 08:38 AM

The best way is to keep main eventers separate, so they have enough time, while midcard must be cut and best ones put together to work on both shows, so midcard will improve in quality and IC title can finally look like something important enough.

brand extenson was important and believable from 2002-2005. didn't make sense after that

Posted By: Guest#4780 (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 09:27 AM

ugh. so now we will see john cena on both shows.

Posted By: Guest#0985 (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 09:31 AM

Well, the brand split failed. Now it's only a matter of time until the World Championship unification match happens. Since it's unlikely that the CM Punk and HHH feud continues until Wrestlemania, perhaps CM Punk vs Orton on such match will be the co-main event.

Posted By: Antiheroe (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 09:46 AM

It makes more sense to me to unify all the titles carrying the feuds and #1 contenders between both shows. They need more starpower on SD to draw, not water down Raw.

Posted By: Guest#1385 (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 10:06 AM

I wonder if this all about SM Houseshows and talent or the more the real reason is due to Raw ratings keeps dropping each and every week. So they are bringing talent to raw to spike their ratings.

I assume you mean Danielson. And you obviously haven't watched ANY of his WWE matches (unless only his squashes) or you know he's had great matches with Jericho, Miz, Ziggler and Rhodes, just to name a few.

What's really interesting is the fact that while Smackdown may be a good show. It's not necessarily a good show over the other one. Since that may or may not be the case. We shouldn't think it's all that bad of a deal to be good for the show. Being on both brands, whereas most could be said to be on one or the other, just makes one wonder. So at any rate, Raw and TNA are battling it out with Smackdown. So we're stuck with ROH mergers. Not sure if I want to see what it ends up coming to, but for my part, I'd pay to see something like it. Good for ROH, I think they're finally making a good decision for TNA.

Posted By: Hear me out: (Guest)  on August 30, 2011 at 01:30 PM

Merging the ROH and TNA wrestlers is a bad idea for both companies. It's only going to hurt WWE.

Exactly what I was going to say. His match against Ziggler was even joint 1st place on WWE.coms match of the year poll.
Also, he's the only guy to get a good match out of Sin Cara.

It lasted for nearly a decade, I don't think anyone in their right mind would consider that a failure, especially in the fickle world of professional wrestling.

I hated the brand extension at first, but it's grown on me over the years. During the awful HHH years on Monday Night RAW followed by too much Cena, Smackdown really became a favorite of mine. And to the dude who said it's for IWC nerds who have nothing else to do on Friday nights, you couldn't be more wrong. It was fun to pre-drink and watch Smackdown before going out. Oh well...
