On Ric Flair: "Ric is one of my best friends. Ric doesn't know when to walk away. Ric doesn't want to be told to walk away. And Ric can't afford to walk away. Ric has lived every day of his life like it's the last for almost the fifty years he's been in the business. In Ric's mind, it's still 1982, he's on top of the world, he's young, he's got a lot of money. Ric has never questioned spending. We have a term on the road where if you go out and you have a crazy night that you spent a ludicrous amount of money or you just lose it one day and you can't go through another airport and you're trying to get a jet instead, we call it 'Naitching.' Ridiculously spending money for no point is called 'Naitching.'"
On The UFC & Evolving: I don't think we have to evolve. It's two totally different things. I think now especially there's this thing like, "oh it's very similar." I don't see us needing to evolve to what UFC does because quite frankly sometimes the fights are long and boring, guys lying around and sometimes the fights are fast and over in five seconds. I've always thought one of the things about us, if you look at us solely from a sports standpoint, is that we always give you a good show. We're never going to give you a crap game.
I think if anybody needs to evolve, it's them. Give more of an entertainment standpoint. Give more form; they just have fighters who walk in in T-shirts and shorts and just stand there and then they fight and then they win and then they go "thanks, I'd like to thank my sponsors" and then they leave. The whole world was up in arms when Brock was flipping people off and was cussing at the beer company because they didn't give him any money and everyone thought, "oh my god, he's disrespectful," -- the whole world was talking about it. They couldn't wait to see him get beat up. And then he did well, and he beat some guys and then people jump on his bandwagon going "Brock's the greatest." I'm good friends with Floyd Mayweather and Floyd would be the first to tell ya, "I make the most money in boxing and I have the biggest buyers because I have the biggest mouth." He'd be the first guy to tell you that. That's what it's about. Sports is entertainment.
So, when a young wrestler is obviously roiding up, do we call it Triple H'ing?

Triple H comes off as a jerk in these quotes. Just mean stuff from a guy in charge of the WWE.
Posted By: kaerkea (Guest) on September 15, 2011 at 11:36 AM
Generally best friends dont throw each other under the bus like that. Saying it to your face is one thing, but tearing you down in an interview is pretty lame.

Triple H shoud concern himself with doing a better job of finding great WWE talent. So far he is 0 for 2:
Sin Cara
Kharma

If you guys really knew anything about Ric Flair and his current financial situation you would know Hunter is speaking the truth. It's called tough love and I'm sure he's said the same thing to Ric's face. Ric has lived his gimmick and now he is paying the price. Google a recent story written on Flair and his financial problems and enlighten yourselves.

so Scott Hall is an alcoholic and you don't think his friends can say that he is an alcoholic and has issues? They should publicly deny? Ric Flair's financial problems are well documented. Nobody is throwing anybody under the bus here. It's already public knowledge.

Ric Flair is a clown. He's always been a god awful wrestler and should have retired 25 years ago. This guy makes me laugh. The greatest thing he does is the face flop. He's more like the Harlem Globetrotter wrestler. Funny for kids, but will never be taken seriously.

He made a legit point about MMA needing to find a way to make their fighters a little more entertaining. Not in the actual fights. But a way to draw attention to up and coming fighters outside the cage. Ultimate Fighter does it, but half of those guys wont make it.

You know, he may sound like a jerk, but he's actually right about UFC. Brock is the biggest draw UFC has because he actually has a personality. UFC fans get so mad at him for "disrespecting their sport" but then a million of them pay to watch him fight. It wouldn't kill them to teach a few more guys to act like Brock.

I appreciate his honest about Flair and also I see his point on the UFC. Entertainment does sell. But the counterpoint is the professionalism of other organizations like the NFL. It's a tough balance.

Wow. Ric Flair earned his spot? You know wrestling is a work, right? All due respect to the man, but how does one go about "earning" his spot? The promoter must take a special interest in you for you to "earn" your spot. Ric Flair was Jim Crockett's pet since he ended up in the Carolinas, and he was one of the biggest politicians in pro wrestling. Triple H is really no different in this aspectm as he was politicking with the kliq before screwing Steph. Why do you think Vinny Mac was okay with Triple H entering his family? He was Vinny's pet project, ala Hogan. It's the name of the game. Politicans= Top guys.

Triple H is spot on about UFC. They have a great audience and I mean a GREAT audience as far as numbers go, but imagine if they let their fighters be more free to speak their minds. Imagine if someone came along with an ego that everyone, UFC diehard or not, wanted to see get his ass kicked or see if he could back up his words. For me, UFC is fun to watch when I'm in the mood to see it, but I'm not all that enthralled by it. Wrestling provides the entertainment and storyline that allows me to get emotionally invested in a way that UFC and its barebones presentation doesn't. I'm not saying UFC should start doing storylines, but more programs that allow the fighters to talk shit and be the heel would get me into it.

I kind of agree that there are a few things that UFC could improve on such as miking the crowd and post match interviews (there's nothing like thanking sponsors and God for 2 minutes to get yourself over). However, it's hard to believe that HHH doesn't know that WWE is getting caned by UFC on PPV and there's a ring load of things that they need to improve on themselves (like how many stars UFC have created in the past 10 years compared to WWE).
Posted By: Baron Skinny (Guest) on September 15, 2011 at 02:21 PM
Triple H was a firm upper midcard/main eventer before he got married. Rock left. Stone cold left.Shawn left for years. Bret left. Hall and nash left. Macho Man and Hogan left and the last four guys actively tried to put Vince out of business. Triple H and Undertaker stayed. Loyalty is rewarded in businesss.

I'm going to defend Trip on the "UFC not evolving" comment: yes, they've sold out shows on 3 continents in the last year; yes they've gotten their fighters deals with Bud Light, Burger King, Under Armour, Nike, Safe Auto, Gatorade, and K Swiss; yes, they've signed a deal with the biggest network on broadcast television- and gotten the primetime and NFL exposure that goes with it-; and YES, they've purchased their only legitimate competition.
But, not ONCE have they opened any of their shows with a super cool pyro display.
Point: Triple H.

First off, I want even go on the long rant about how he feels the need to publicly address Ric Flair.......but as for UFC, in THIS DAY AND AGE they are in another STRATOSPHERE when it comes to popularity and whatever else compared to wrestling. Yeah, they are the ones that really need change alright...
Posted By: wcwfan (Guest) on September 15, 2011 at 03:49 PM
WOW. This actually might be the stupidest thing that I've ever heard. Seriously. UFC has to evolve? What the flick does he call them moving to FOX? Has HHH ever seen any of their ratings and PPV buys? What the hell is he basing success off of? UFC hasn't even hit their prime yet (that will come when they're able to put on shows in places like Madison Square Garden) and they're consistently blowing the WWE away in almost every category.
Ever since HHH became a suit, he's been getting real political. By political I mean ignorant, of course. This past Monday on RAW he acutually argues that Cena became successful because he was able to win over the WWE crowd. The same WWE crowd that heckles him half the time from city to friggin' city.

"We're never going to give you a crap game."
That's all they've been doing, almost non-stop since X-Seven. There have been moments, matches here and there even sustained runs when it seemed like things might improve (the fall of 2008 being a good example) but when you face facts it's been one fat load of shit for 10.5 years. One of the worst runs any single company has ever seen and the worst run the business has ever seen.
The man largely responsible was the one who contributed the opening quote, by the way.

Can't say I agree with that at all. WWE has put on countless bad shows over the years, many of them during 2003, a time when HHH was the main guy (not all his fault though).

One of the main ingredients for a Pro-wrestler is that he must have personality and be able to project that in cutting promos while garning interest.
That same ingredient is not necessary in MMA. Only thing that matters in MMA is winning fights and showing up for promotional spots (some fighters like NDiaz have not mastered that part yet).
But having that ingredient is what the elite athletes have in every sport, CBarkley, RLewis, JMcEnroe. When these guys did interviews people stop and listen.

Shheeeeiiiit. So why is it, fighters like Shane Carwin have 12-0 before he got a title shot, while Brock lost his first fight and got a title shot 2 fights later?!?! And didnt Machida go 14-0 before he got his first title shot, while Forrest Griffen had less then half those fights, worse record, and got a title shot before him as well.
It really does help your career when people know, and somewhat care about who the hell you are.
