Update on Injury to Top WWE Star (SPOILERS)
Posted by Larry Csonka on 12.29.2011

- WWE.com has an article up on the status on Randy Orton. WWE physician Dr. Michael Sampson examined Orton and had the following to say about his condition…

"Randy suffered a herniated disc on the L4-L5 level on the left side, and that's resulting in pain and weakness down his leg. He's going to need some time off for rehab, anti-inflammatory medications and physical therapy."

The story mentioned that the injury, "could keep him sidelined for a few weeks."

The Wrestling Observer reports that Orton had been complaining of the injury for two weeks, and that is why his workload was cut down leading into the Smackdown tapings Tuesday night, where they shot the injury angle.

They're trying to recreate Cena's 2008 return. The Rumble is in St. Louis, remember. Orton will be a "surprise" entrant and win.

Um....so he couldn't put over Barrett at TLC and take the time off then?

Orton did a miracle this year, he proved to many doubters (including myself) that all the love he got in the office, from Foley, Flair, HHH, Taker, HBK, and many many other legends is warranted.

Speedy recovery, I hope 2012 continues as well as he did in 2011.

Now makes more sense to try and find your next crop of main eventers. The current pool is growing shallower as time goes on. Injuries stack up. Shelf time get's longer.

I have had the exact same injury. If Orton returns in three weeks, he will have been treated with far more than just anti-inflammatories. As a semi-professional sportsman, It took me 3 and a half months to return to full training.

And he'll still win the Rumble.

Can a Viper heal that quick?

As someone who has had a legit herniated disc in the same location, IF this is a legit injury, weeks off with rest and anti-inflammatory meds is not going to work. It will require at least a partial discectomy and for it to heal correctly, missing Wrestlemania would be a wise decision. It's not an injury you can fix with steroids.

A few weeks off house shows and he will still get camera time and be back for the ppv cheque. Just like his wellness violations...

I'm sorry...but if he had legit been complaining about an injury and you have the Royal Rumble in St. Louis all set up for him, they would NOT chance anything by putting him in a 'street fight' match w/Barrett (who's pretty stiff anyway)! That's why this screams work to me...and others, apparently...
