Jim Ross Blogs on Chris Jericho, Brock Lesnar in WWE, More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 01.09.2012

- Jim Ross has a new blog entry up, here are the highlights...

On Chris Jericho: What do I expect from Chris Jericho live on Raw this Monday night? I have no way of knowing but w/o saying a word he made an impact and created ample discussion last week in Memphis. What if Jericho decided to disrespect the live audience and the TV viewers again by NOT addressing them again this week? Would there be outrage, disgust or smiles? Have I ever experienced a wrestling promo that had significant impact where essentially nothing was said? Yes...Undertaker and HHH last year in their initial build to Wrestlemania. That was one of the most memorable segments of Raw TV in years.

On The New Stone Cold DVD: What was my favorite aspect of the new, Stone Cold DVD? The alternate commentary that Steve and I did for three of his hand picked, Wrestlemania bouts. He was extremely insightful and @steveaustinBSR really opened up about wrestling psychology and how he personally approached his craft. Lots of young wrestlers can learn a great deal by listening to Steve in this presentation.

On Smaller Wrestlers: Does the lack of size of some wrestlers in WWE adversely affect me as a fan? Absolutely not. I like talented wrestlers and those individuals come in a variety of shapes and sizes. If everyone is 6'4"-250 pounds, who is visually unique? An athlete's heart and charisma can't be measured by pounds and inches.

On Brock Lesnar: Do I think that Brock Lesnar will return to WWE in 2012? Been asked many Brock questions since his retirement from UFC but this one seems to be the one most frequently posed. The answer is no. Lesnar's first appearance, if he even has one, should be at a Wrestlemania and this year's WM28 already has a headliner in @TheRock vs. @JohnCena plus Undertaker's Streak which I assume will also take place.

Lesnar isn't getting any younger, and why would you hold back things that could make an event bigger because you'd rather do them an entire year later?

If he wants to wrestle, they should have him back at this WM. Who knows, maybe you can actually kick start a new era of popularity for wrestling by giving people something to talk about. Back in the Attitude era lots of things would happen every show. A guy like Chris Jericho would wrestle midcard or early matches. The Rock used to end the first hour of RAW rather than main eventing every week. I guess that mentality is long gone.

I'll stick to watching the NFL, where they put their best players in the entire time and don't try to "save" them.

Do they honestly think people tune into Wrestle Mania to see Undertaker defend his streak? Maybe the first couple after they started mentioning the streak, but now, not a chance in hell. Nobody expects Taker to ever lose at 'Mania. The builds towards his Mania matches hardly ever even show him as being weak. If I had cable and could actually afford a WWE PPV like Mania I would not be because of the streak. At least not until he's made to look at all weak leading up to it.

Good luck watching some of the best players between now and October.

I agree with J.R. WWE releases so many DVDs that inevitably have repeating matches. I've gotten to the point that I really cherry pick which DVDs to buy and the bulk of my decision is based on the number of matches I already own on DVD. Alternate commentary is a great way to convince me to purchase something that I may already have on another set.

All WWE DVDs should at least feature a couple of matches with that option.

NOT with Michael Cole.

Tebow is the only reason to watch NFL at this point.

Nice to hear JR talk about somebody being "visually unique." WWE had a huge problem with that for a while, but has come around in the past couple years. TNA still doesn't seem to get it. Everybody no in a tag team should look different. Like Street Fighter.

Didn't catch WM25 or the build at all, huh? Because Michaels laid out Taker a few times on RAW with Sweet Chin Music. The following year, did the same, and laid him out in the Chamber to help Jericho win the title. Well, he did it to hurt Taker, not help Jericho. And during their 'Mania 26 match, Michaels worked Taker's leg early on. Match wasn't as great as the first, but still good. But point being, that's recent, and it made Taker look vulnerable. No matter what you do, it's hard to believe he WON'T win at Mania, so laying the guy out like that is good enough to spark interest.

And frankly with matches like Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole, Cena vs. Miz, and backstage segments with Hornswoggle, Taker's streak has been the ONLY reason to watch Mania lately. Not because you already know the outcome, but because you'll be getting a quality match. This year, I'm not expecting Rock/Cena to be anything great, and another obvious outcome, so yeah, I AM looking forward to Taker's match, even if it's Taker vs. Triple H Part 3. I'd rather see a new opponent, but I'll take it over Cena and Rock.

And the inevitable Orton winning the World title back. Injury nothing, he'll be at Mania winning as usual, boring the shit out of us. I just pray we get Punk vs. Jericho for the WWE title and give it 30 minutes at least. With the loss of guys like Michaels and Edge, you need a good solid match like that.

Jericho is a BIG waste of time in the last 2 Raws, please don't air him again.
