CM Punk Will Not Attend UFC on FOX 2
Posted by George H. Sirois on 01.14.2012
So says Vince...
- MMAFighting.com reports that CM Punk will not be escorting Chael Sonnen to the Octagon for his fight in UFC on FOX 2, which will take place in Chicago.
CM Punk confirmed that Vince McMahon pulled him from making the cameo appearance. WWE sources said that the original deal for him to appear at the event was not brokered with the UFC. It was an arrangement that Punk and Sonnen had set up themselves. Sonnen invited the WWE Champion to appear and Punk agreed, asking for the date off from a scheduled house show.
Vincent, just die. You need those fans to remember your promotion. Reel them back in. This is dumb. So, let me get this, undertaker, while under contract, can show up and that's ok? Cm punk cant?! Give me a break, no wonder I an millions of other people don't give a flying monkey's ass about your sports entertainment any longer. Screw tna too, while I'm here.

Vince McMahon is officially the dumbest MF on the planet.
Giving due credit, Chicagos Phil Brooks would've had a HUGE crowd chant, which would have been bigger than anything else that night. Definitely something Vince could crow about. Maybe even a future plotline for a Punk/ Lesnar angle.
But no.
At least he's on top of other things! Perez Hilton might wrestle at Mania and maybe Mr. Belding can referee!

vince is so scared of mma.

Just think, if Punk had actually taken a stand and left the company he would have had the freedom to do such a cool UFC/wrestling crossover. On the same token, if Punk had left the WWE, Sonnen wouldn't have likely given a damn about him and never asked. Damn, the things you sacrifice when you give up your pride.....

'Cos free publicity (since you know the announcers'd mention who CM Punk is and who he works for) for the WWE'd be bad, of course!

He won't be missed

Hmm let's see what the people who were saying TNA would be stupid to not let Flair to the HOF say about this.
Logical conclusion from those comments Vince is stupid.

BOOOOOOOO Vince! Would have been awesome
Posted By: Cam (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 10:59 AM
Because cross promotion, free advertising and making wrestling seem cool to all the former fans now watching UFC, especially at this time of year, that's just silly! Holy fuck is this stupid.

Can't help but wonder what goes through people's head on decisions like this. I'm aware that Vince sees the UFC as competition, but that's a false impression. WWE is no more competition for UFC than billiards trick shot competitions on ESPN2 are competition for the NFL.
UFC has a mainstream presence that WWE has lacked since the Stone Cold era. Punk and Cena occasionally show up, and The Rock is allowing WWE to tag along to his fame at this point, but they're not a mainstream entity right now. I have no doubt that at some point in the future they will be once again - the trends are easy to see historically in wrestling - but they're simply not right now.
Meanwhile the UFC ppv's do huge business, and tonight they'll sell a couple hundred thousand shows at $55 featuring one of the worst cards in recent memory. UFC has positioned itself on one of the big 4 networks and actually gets play on ESPN.
CM Punk showing up on UFC 2 would be a positive for WWE. In the corner of one of their most colorful characters, the one guy that's crowing about getting a rematch with Anderson Silva, there's a good chance that Punk gets a little tag at the bottom of the screen that says "CM Punk WWE Heavyweight Champion", then he waves at the camera and says, "Hi Vince!" and a lot of people see that. If even a handful check out RAW because of it, it's worth doing.
It reminds me of the section in Eric Bischoff's book where Time Warner executives shoot down a WCW prime time special on NBC during the NBA lockout from the 90's. Mind boggling decisions from people that should be making their living promoting this stuff.

Cue the "Vince is delusional" comments.
It's funny though. When this was first announced, everyone thought it would be Dana White who'd kill off any hope of this happening.

CM Punk will still attend the event, mark my words. He wants Vince to fire him so he can join this Sonen's team in the UFC and start competing there, where he will be a huge success.

So I'm assuming then than when Triple H went and visited the Giants practice, that deal was brokered between wwe and the NFL...what hypocrites.
Posted By: JimmyG (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 12:01 PM
Bwahahahahahahaha!
If that were The Rock, Vince would have said yes.

Nothing "punk" about being owned.
Posted By: Guest#9271 (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 12:08 PM
Nope, Vince absolutely doesn't think UFC is competition...not at all. It's true, he told us himself.
Ass.

That's great business Vince. Have him at a less than half full house show or expose him to millions of viewers on Fox and possibly gain some people to watch RAW the following Monday. Yeah, they'd probably change the channel 15 minutes in, but nevertheless...

I guess they got paid for the Undertaker Lesnar incident from last year? and this year Vince wasn't going to get paid for Punk to be there.
Posted By: Curtis (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 12:52 PM
2012 and Vince still treats his employees like little children? It's no wonder the WWE is going out of business.
Posted By: Latex (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 01:23 PM
Last time I checked, any publicity is good for business for the WWE.
You say no to this but Linda Mac is running for senate (SSShhh about the wrestling!!)
Hypocrites.

Meah, Chael's not exactly SxE material anyways.

no.

CM Punk is needed else where.
Posted By: Guest#5049 (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 02:01 PM
For some reason, I'm getting Romeo and Juliet vibes from this . .
Posted By: Guest#0537 (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 02:38 PM
Sonnen isn't straight edge. He is a known juicer. Don't think he would fit Punks SE lifestyle to be seen with sonnen.

"That's great business Vince. Have him at a less than half full house show or expose him to millions of viewers on Fox and possibly gain some people to watch RAW the following Monday."
Bullshit. No UFC fan who doesn't already watch WWE is going to watch Raw two nights later because Punk was part of a fighter's entourage.
The most likely scenerio is Punk, the WWE champion, would just be a faceless member of the entourage who doesn't get mentioned. Or he'd be announced as GM Punk or CM Pink or some shit like that.

Maybe Vince would rather him do the house show he's scheduled for to serve the WWE fans who payed their money to see him compete.
Posted By: Rational Mind (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 03:47 PM
Perhaps using Punk as bargaining chip to get Brock.
Posted By: Lino C. (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 03:49 PM
This would have been Punk appearing on the show, not in the audience. Vince is in the right when he doesn't know all the details of the situation so he can pull people from the show. Vince defines WWE, Dana defines UFC. Both employ "independent contractors", but they have final say.
Posted By: D (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 03:56 PM
Obviously Vince is a horrible business man as many of you say. He only turned the WWF into one of if not the largest wrestling company in the world. What have you done in the business world ?
Posted By: Guest#6639 (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 05:43 PM
Vince is a controlling, paranoid dick out of touch with current pop culture. He's so worried about competition he shoots himself in the foot. That was free crossover advertisement for WWE. He needs to step away from his employees' social life. Just trying to put the muzzle back on Punk. But then again, is Punk going to continue to spout the company line like he's been lately or will he live up to his gimmick of standing up for himself and speak out?

1) Card Subject to change.
2) The E lets a lot of people do appearances, many similar to this one.

And everybody wonders why wrestling is a joke...
Posted By: Dictatorship (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 10:06 PM
It is probably the right decision not to allow Punk to be there, cageside. If Sonnen loses, then Punk has that "stench" on him, so to speak. Better that Punk just sit in the stands, if he's able to go at all. UFC is not WWE and there would be no clearance to use the footage or really benefit WWE overall, it would have just been a "cool" thing to see.
Posted By: RDog (Guest) on January 14, 2012 at 10:39 PM
It would be different if punk wasn't wwe champion. He shouldn't be appearing on tv without the belt IMO, and the wwe champ should never be just some guy in a fighters corner. The wwe title is more prestigious than the ufc title. Vince is right on this one.
Posted By: figgler (Guest) on January 15, 2012 at 12:47 AM
Vince M Genius is not only over rated it does not exist. Shit luck and family money is all he will ever be. Can not wait to see WWE network never even get off the ground
Posted By: bull666 (Guest) on January 15, 2012 at 02:39 AM
Undertaker can get away with Murder at this point. Taker can go on a UFC show, audiably and visibly get in Brock Lesnar's face, and get praised for it.
Punk can't. Just like how Punk gets reprimanded if he is champ but not wearing nice suits.
