WWE.com Compares Punk vs. Laurinaitis to Austin vs. McMahon
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 01.19.2012
You know that was coming...
- WWE.com has an article making the inevitable comparison of the CM Punk and John Laurinaits feud against the Vince McMahon and Steve Austin storyline. The caption for the article reads, "Watching C.M. Punk and John Laurinaitis go at it on Raw reminds us of the storied rivalry between 'Stone Cold' and Mr. McMahon. Relive it here with these exclusive photos!"

Ha, that's funny!!!

Wow that is some BS.
It's not even close to the intensity or entertainment value.
Vince was the owner and actually had Charisma...Johnny Ace - not so much
Austin played the badass role 100% better than CM Punk. Punk played more of the sarcastic smartass. Austin was just going to tell you he was going to "kick your ass", then usually do it.

Steve Austin and Vince McMahon are legends in this business.
Johnny Laryngitis and CM Punk are like goobers.

Yeah.
It's like watching season 9 of Frasier, and being reminded of season 2.
It's good, but reminds you of something far superior.

Of course Austin vs Vince is better, cause it was the man vs the man, today we have the man (Ace) vs 15 year's old boy (Punk)

The difference between the feuds Laurinaitis has more charisma than Punk.

WWE should take the advice of one of 411's columnists, who wrote this week that the company should let CM Punk VS. John Laurinaitis stand on its own, as opposed to comparing it to Steve Austin VS. Vince McMahon.

Yeah, a poor imitation.

You've gotta be shitting me...

The problem is that neither Punk or Ace is anywhere near what Austin and Vince were.

LOL. No, it doesn't. And please stop comparing Austin to that skinny tattoed guy.

I like Punk and I'm enjoying his current character. That being said, this is nothing like McMahon vs Austin. They will never be able to recreate that magic because, at the time, McMahon hadn't widely been known to many fans as the actual owner of the company. When he finally came forward with that on camera, there was an element of "Holy crap, this guy is the REAL boss" that had never existed before.
Everyone knows Johnny Ace isn't really in charge, he's just a storyline boss. Additionally, he's not nearly the performer that McMahon was in 98 (or even what McMahon is now).

Ofcourse the comparison is inevitable, but when think about it - austin always had a sense of comedy and bigger then life attitude - punk just comes off like a dick sometimes, monday was no different.

Congratulations to CM Punk. You have now gained worldwide popularity because the IWC has turned against you. This means you've officially made it!

The butthurt trolls will inevitably complain it's not the same. But you have to admit there are parallels. And this is the first "rebellions wrestler vs. corrupt authority figure" that feels fresh and real for a while.

i don't know what you are saying. the first time they revealed that vince was the wwe owner was in 1996 when jr was doing his heel turn. he once asked president gorilla monsoon "did the boss vince mcmahon fire you? no, but he fired me twice".
and the reason why austin vs mcmahon was successful and famous because at that time it was new, fresh and never seen before. since then, the employer vs employee storyline has been done to death. punk vs laurinaitis is nothing but a poor rehash.
