Chris Nowinski Says Randy Orton Is Advocating Time Off After Head Bumps
Posted by Jeremy Thomas on 02.07.2012

- Former WWE star Chris Nowinski recently talked about his work with the Sports Legacy Institute in concussion research, talking with Randy Orton about the issue, his conversations with Chris Benoit and more. Check out the highlights:

On Randy Orton changing his thoughts on the issue: "A guy like Randy Orton just didn't buy into it, and I ran into him in March, and he started talking about his concussion experiences and he was like, 'Gosh I didn't know it was that bad.' He is an advocate for himself now to take time off and so it's interesting to see this turn."

On his conversations with Chris Benoit before his murder-suicide: "We incorporated Sports Legacies ten days before the Benoit tragedy. A year prior to that I sat down with Benoit when I was still working for (WWE) and he just started asking me questions. He was more interested than any other wrestler, which helps me realize that he actually knew there was something wrong with him. He asked me about how many concussions I had and I asked him and he said, 'Well, I had more concussions than I can count.' So, because he told me that and then he told me to give him a call. I remember months later... I called him and he acted like he didn't know why I was calling after he gave me his number. So, I thought maybe there was a memory thing or maybe a mood thing going on. So, when it happened, I was sure that is why it happened."

This guy is just still riding the Benoit media wave. 30 years from now he's still going to be all like "WWE employee, concussions, blah blah".

Nowinski tried his best.

He was more interested than any other wrestler, which helps me realize that he actually knew there was something wrong with him.

And yet HE(suspecting somthing was wrong and having a huge history of concussions), continued to wrestle the SAME match with the SAME moveset over and over again! Like the song says -things that make you go hmmmmm....!

Chris "I murdered my wife and child and tooK the coward's way out" Benoit deserves nothing but scorn. He may have had brain damage, BUT, he had enough of his faculties to know RIGHT FROM WRONG, which negates any defense brain damage/concussions can make.

Coward couldn't face the fact he MURDERED HIS CHILD AND WIFE, so he took his own worthless life to escape justice.

Benoit knew his brain was fucked up. If only he sought help sooner. All we have left to look forward to now is a movie exploiting his tragedy.

Do you think maybe he killed himself out of guilt? Isnt delivering supreme justice to yourself less cowardly than turning yourself in or trying to get away with it? What he did was awful and unforgivable, but I dont think ending your own life is ever easy or cowardly.

Yeah from now on he shouldn't mention the most famous concussion related tradgey when talking about about his work in concussion research.

Reeves - ultimately nobody knows Nowinski's motivation, true, but why is it so unlikely that maybe he just wants to contribute research and make advancements in the field of concussion damage? He's certainly had his own issues with concussions, to say the least, and others in the profession that he worked in have been plagued by them, too. People don't always have self-serving ulterior motives for everything.

Heaven forbid someone try to do something positive with their life. Maybe Nowinski should just bitch about things as an anonymous commenter. That would show em.

Depends on the case. In his case it was cowardly, no one really knows why he killed himself, if it was out of guilt or if he just didn't want to take responsibility for what he did. Either way he did it to avoid suffering.

All the respect and love he ever had would have been immediately taken back. Only his loyalist fans who are so disconnected from reality would forgive him, but they don't really count because they're mentally disturbed pieces of shit who think wreestling is more important than human lives.

Reeves...you're a doo-doo head!

Even when I was seventen I watched the headbutt and thought it was a dumb move...

Chris Nowinski is obsessed with head trauma it's amazing... he should be a Batman villain or something.

Chris Nowinski is a good man.

Benoit goes into a blind rage and kills his family, suddenly he comes to and finds what he has done, can't handle it and off's himself.

Is that so inconceivable?

Not excusing what he did at all since
like it has been mentioned if he knew something was up he HAD to get help but as somebody else said killing yourself is not an easy decision or something easy to do, in a way it can be seen as cowardice but it will be your bravest moment as a coward.

Hell most people wouldn't even touch something knowing it would burn them, try doing something you know will kill you.

Posted By: Guest (Guest)  on February 08, 2012 at 01:57 AM

You can't judge Benoit, like or night, you are not in a high place where you can pass judgement on anyone. God will judge the sin of our lives, and no sin is bigger than the other, we will all be judged.
Stop the hate, what do you gain from sending the guy to hell and eating condemnation? We will all be judged by the same sword.

Well now I know how many concussions Benoit had more than he could remember. I just wonder where he lost count.

I wonder if the steroids that he took all those years (that no one is talking about) also affected his brain and his mental state.....

I'm Dorado and I approve this message
