Tajiri’s SMASH Promotion Shutting Down
Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.10.2012

According to Pwinsider.com, Tajiri's SMASH promotion in Japan has announced that they will be shutting down operations this March. Tajiri did state that all shows scheduled through March would take place as scheduled, and that the promotion was closing due to issues within management.

Last week, word started going around that WWE was reaching out to cruiserweight talent for a show that they were planning for the WWE Network. Nothing is confirmed at this time, but Tajiri would certainly fit the bill for a show of that description.

Tajiri moved back to Japan to live there, and he has his degree in economics,so i really dont see this happening..

There are American-born ex-WWE guys making a good living in Japan, let alone Japanese.

Why would Tajiri come back to WWE? It will never happen. He's a giant name in Japan compared to here.

first of all, Tajiri is not giant name in Japan. He had his success in both Mexico and US. probably majority of Japanese pro wrestling fans got to know him from wwf. not saying his famous or not well known. I am just saying hes considerd as that guy from WWE.

there are tons of wreslters who can move faster and better than current Tajiri. I dont really see a point having him as an active wrestler on that cruiserwight show they are planning to produce.

SMASH tickets are insanely expensive (think wrestlemania price range), yet every show 1000+ people showed up, so SMASH was making big money. Kinda weird to see a company like that disappear.
It's unlikely Tajiri can make more money in WWE than in his own promotion.

Come back Tajiri, Tarantula Cena, green mist, new champion

That's a shame. I'd love to see Tajiri back in the WWE, but I doubt he'd want to come back to the US for long periods.

But the real question is what happens to KANA?!

"Matt Fact #251: Taijiri is too heavy to be a cruiserweight"

Tajiri was dope.

She still works for WAVE, but those dvds are hard to get while Smash was easily accessable through youtube.

But word is that Tajiri will start a new promotion with the same roster, he just wants to get rid of Smash management.

A Yoshi Tatsu/Tajiri tag team would be fun.

Doesn't make a lot of sense, but you don't see me complaining. I'd be happy to see the Japanese buzzsaw back on my TV.

He won't be heading back to WWE. SMASH is only shutting down because of a disagreement Tajiri had with the financial backer. He intends to open a new promotion as soon as he can.

It closed down because Tajiri and the promoting partner were arguing over who to push-the partner's old guys or Tajiri's younger talents. Tajiri will simply form a new company with the youngsters. He's said repeatedly he's not going to live in the US a second time.

Even if he stays in Japan, I can see Tajiri working part-time for WWE, maybe on international tours, he doesn't really need to be on TV all that often & certainly doesn't need to do North American house shows.
