Linda McMahon Campaign Updates: Former WWE Board Member Slams Her, WWE Removing Attitude Era Footage
Posted by Joseph Lee on 09.14.2012

The CT Post reports that former WWE Board member and former Connecticut Senator Lowell P. Weicker Jr has slammed Linda McMahon and endorsed her Senate opponent Chris Murphy. He served on WWE's Board of Directors for fifteen years.

He said McMahon has a history of "self-service and no public service with the exception of a couple of meetings of the state Board of Education."

He added: "It's the ultimate corruption that says you don't have to earn the senator's job and it's out there on the table for the highest bidder. My choice has nothing to do, quite frankly, with WWE."

A spokesman for Linda's campaign said Weicker's "current comments are transparent in their partisanship and represent nothing more than just another one of Chris Murphy's politically connected friends who has been deployed in an attempt to rescue the ethically challenged congressman's flailing campaign." -Meanwhile, Courtant Blogs and Politico both report that WWE is removing Attitude era footage from their website and mobile platforms.

They released a statement through WWE spokesman Brian Flinn, who said: "Some of this footage has been misused in political environments without any context or explanation as to when it was produced. This damages the corporate reputation of our company."

They claim this is not in response to recent attack ads against former WWE CEO Linda McMahon during her campaign. Flinn added: "For years WWE has produced programming that is rated PG in primetime, and most recently rated G on Saturday mornings. To better reflect our current family-friendly brand of entertainment, WWE is removing some dated and edgier footage from digital platforms."

It should be noted that WWE has been extensively promoting the vidoe game WWE 13, which is all about the Attitude Era. (Credit: PW Torch)
