Will the WWE Network ever materialize?
Seeking Alpha.com reports that WWE Chief Strategy and Financial Officer George Barrios spoke at the UBS 41st Annual Global Media and Communications Conference on Tuesday about WWE's TV deals. Barrios also addressed the upcoming WWE Network.
Barrios said the WWE is considering an over-the-top model (similar to Netflix, Hulu, etc.) because they do think it is a viable market, but they would rather do a deal with traditional carriers. He also stated there has been pushback from those carriers over the network.
He stated: "And the pushback continues. I want to be fair to -- you are having this commercial discussion, everybody wants what everybody wants and sometimes you can't agree on what is fair terms. I don't want to mischaracterize the other side in the discussion. What I will say is I have not understood and still do not understand why the pay-per-view transition to a subscription service delivered by the MVPDs [cable and satellite companies] did not make sense, I still don't understand it."
