UPDATEDx4: Heat on AJ Lee Following Tribute to the Troops Backstage Incident

December 15, 2013 | Posted by Jeremy Thomas

UPDATE 4: Michelle Beadle has issued a statement regarding the report of her incident with AJ Lee on her Twitter:

Once and once only: I’ve known CM Punk for years. Considered him a friend. When I saw him at the arena, I said ‘hey f&$?face’. The exact same way I talk to everyone. His girlfriend was no where near this. And I kept walking along with my assistant and two members of WWE PR. Next thing I know, I’m being yelled at. I honestly thought it was a joke. Period. The event went on and it was amazing.

So I hope we can move on from this ridiculously lame ‘story.’ As for the crazies, BLOCKED! And Happy freaking Holidays!!!

UPDATE 3: Dave Meltzer has continued to press the idea that his version of the story is legitimate. Meltzer says that in talking with several people there, things are in “damage control” in terms of the conflicting accounts of the incident.

Meltzer says that he spoke with four different people, including one person who “got it from top management,” who all explained the story in identical terms. He notes that even a person who tried to defend her said she was “way out of line and nuts,” claiming that AJ overreacted becase she knew Punk and Beadle were once inolved.

Meltzer says that this is “the story in the locker room, even backstage people who aren’t usually talking about such things are are all talking about it.”

UPDATE 2: PWInsider reports that an incident did in fact take place and that WWE is upset with AJ Lee for several reasons in regard to the Tribute to the Troops event, including what was considered to be unprofessional conduct with Michelle Beatle. The event is considered one of the most important of the year by Vince McMahon.

The site has confirmed that the incident takes place. However, the word backstage is that AJ approached Beadle in private after Beadle spoke with Punk, not while they were in the middle of a conversation. The story being passed around is that AJ didn’t fly into a jealous rage but rather was upset that Beadle spoke with Punk in a disrespectful way that upset Punk. Whatever the comment was, it led to AJ telling Beadle that she was not to speak with Punk that way and that if she did, there would be issues between them. Beadle reported the conversation to WWE officials.

One wrestler, who claimed to have seen the event from ten feet away, said that AJ never raised her voice or used obscenities and said, “Anyone who said that is a liar.”

The issue is that since Beadle is a celebrity there was heat on AJ because, as the wrestler noted, “Celebs are untouchable in the backstage scene. WWE wants them more than they need any wrestler, so automatically, the wrestler is going to be wrong here, even when [AJ] isn’t really.”

It’s possible that there is still heat on AJ over the incident; whether it will come into play in terms of repercussions is yet to be known.

UPDATE: Michelle Beadle has publicly commented on the incident with AJ Lee, posting in response to an AJ Lee fan who criticized her on Twitter over it:

ORIGINAL: AJ Lee reportedly has heat on her with WWE officials after she allegedly caused a scene at the Tribute to the Troops show in Washington. According to the report, AJ saw NBC personality Michelle Beadle, who was hosting, speaking with CM Punk backstage and lost it. Lee apparently delivered an “obscenity-laced tirade” at her.

As the report goes, several people in the company were embarrassed and upset that Lee was “coming off like her character in real life, and not in a good way.” It is believed that she will be disciplined. Punk is reportedly upset with WWE officials over the incident and posted the following to Twitter:
