More live notes from the weekend event!
Just came back from Night Two of PWG's All-Star Weekend 5. Great weekend of wrestling which featured international stars from all over the US, Japan, and England. Below is a quick recap of the results. Matches are listed in order. Notable happenings from the event include the top rope breaking at 5:25 pm prior to the first match even starting when a rather heft wrestler, Ronin, was stretching out on the ropes and the top rope broke. The commissioner of PWG and the commissioner of "Food and Beverage" proceeded to stall for 30 minutes while the crew tried to fix the ropes. The first match started over an hour after the original bell time and in total the whole show was delayed 2 hours.
Night Two of PWG's All Star Weekend V took place on Sunday, April 8, 2007 and featured:
No Disqualification Grudge Match
Joey Ryan vs. "Mr. Wrestling" Kevin Steen
Match wasn't scheduled to start the show, but after the top rope broke prior to the beginning of the first match. This match was put into play to buy some time. Decent brawl, which took place 75% out of the ring. Kevin Steen won by hitting Joey with a Package Piledriver through two chairs set standing up in the ring.
TJ Perkins, Rocky "Azucar" Romero, and Ronin Defeats Karl "Machine Gun" Anderson, Lil' Cholo, and NOSAWA
Originally scheduled to be a gauntlet match, this turned into a 6 man tag when Frankie Kazarian was replaced by the returning Lil' Cholo. The match was notable because there was no bottom rope due to the rope being moved from the bottom to replace the broken top rope. Finish came when Ronin rolled up Machine Gun for the win.
Davey Richards Defeats Chris Hero
Majority of match was spent with Davey cowardly running from Hero and jawing with the fans. Davey beat Hero with an AT Lock type arm bar submission.
Colt Cabana & Top Gun Talwar Defeat Kikutaro & Disco Machine
Colt Cabana's last West Coast match before leaving for the WWE. A long comedy style match as you would expect, but very entertaining. Finish came when Colt hit the "Colt 45" on Disco Machine for the pinfall.
"Double C" Claudio Castagnoli Defeats Alex Shelley
Great match, which featured a lot of submission work and technical wrestling. Alex Shelley went winless this weekend, however put on two ***1/2+ matches. Finish came off of a second rope rebound European uppercut to Shelley. After the match Claudio was signing autographs and had a black eye and huge welt on his forehead courtesy of "The Next" Alex Shelley.
Kaz Hayashi Defeats "The Man That Gravity Forgot" PAC
Awesome match that was close to or possibly equal to the match Pac and Generico had last night only less high flying, more wrestling, and a sick end to the match when Pac took a full tombstone and Final Cut to get pinned by Hayashi who finished the weekend 2 for 2.
Arrogance ("Photogenic" Chris Bosh & "The Professional" Scott Lost) vs. Jack Evans & Roderick Strong ended in a No Contest
Great match, which could have been better had Davey Richards and Super Dragon not attacked both teams before Strong and Evans could pick up the win. Davey and SD announced they were reuniting to enter the Tag Tournament in May. Great match with a lousy ending, which made for fodder in order to build to the tournament next month.
PWG World Championship Title Match
El Generico (c) Defeats Human Tornado w/ Candice LaRae
El Generico retains in a brutal match which saw Tornado's female valet get border tossed and take an Ole Kick straight into her face. Finish came when Tornado hit a top rope half nelson suplex into an Ole Kick and a brainbustaaa.
PWG Dream Match
Samoa Joe Defeats Low Ki
This was a big match and was treated like it as the atmostphere and heat during the match was intense. Not quite on par with their first encounter by some accounts but still an early MOTYC as they brutalized each other for a good 20 mins. The difference between the two matches was that the RoH match was an all out street fight in a ring and this match incorporated more actual wrestling...but still brutal. The Island Driver, Face Wash, Ki Krusher 99', Tidal Krush, and all of your favorites came into play. At one point Samoa Joe hit an Ole Kick on Low Ki into a steel guardrail...and shattered one of the steel rods in the guardrail. Match ended when Samoa Joe hit a muscle buster on Low Ki after a series of strikes in the corner. Easily a **** + match. And probably will end up being in the Top 3 SoCal Matches of the Year when all is said and done.
