All the action from TNA's latest house show...
This report is written exclusively for 411mania.com by staff columnist JP Prag.
Just got back from the TNA Live event at the South Shore Music Circus in Cohasset, MA. The Music Circus is basically a semi-permanent tent surrounding a "theatre in the round". The place can hold about 1000 people and looked to be about half full. The crowd was loud and very into the show, playing up to whatever TNA asked them to do.
Here's the quick and dirty results:
Eric Young d. Robert Roode and Ms. Brooks
The match started out one-on-one with Young and Roode, but Ms. Brooks kept getting involved. The ref was about to DQ Roode when Eric asked for the match to be turned into a handicap affair. Mostly comedy stuff with a few spots. Crowd was very into Eric and booed Roode out of the... errr... tent.
The Naturals d. Serotonin (Havok and Martyr)
I was pretty surprised to see the Naturals since they were... you know... fired from TNA. And at that they got the deuce! The match mostly consisted of stalling and clapping, but it was nice to see Havok and Marty interacting with the fans instead of being flies on the wall following Raven around. They were actually pretty good at generating heel heat for themselves and could be quite funny.
"Black Machismo" Jay Lethal d. Kaz
Kaz was announced as a Serontonin member and played a total heel. Pretty basic match considering the level of talent in these two, but still a good outing. Crowd was waaaaaaay into Lethal, and it was the first point where I saw people running across the arena to shake his hand.
Rhino d. "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels
Another huge pop for Rhino. He took a good long time to pose with different areas of the crowd while Daniels displayed his frustration in the ring. Fast pace match between the two ended in a gore.
**** INTERMISSION: Eric Young was signing autographs at the merchandise stand for 20 minutes ****
Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) and Brother Runt d. LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) and Lance Hoyt
Apparently, Lance Hoyt beat up Brother Runt in Hyannis the night before, so that is why the two were added to this match. Homicide decided to befriend the one Yankees baseball cap in the place, so Team 3D came to the side of the Red Sox. I felt his was particularly odd since Brother Ray and Brother Devon are from New York. Maybe they are Mets fans? Anyway, each team played to the crowd a lot and really brought everyone in. The end came with an Acid Drop from Runt onto Lance Hoyt. After the match, the Deadlies brought a little kid name Justin into the ring and we all sang happy birthday to him. Well, except for those two guys next to me. They wouldn't do anything but keep their arms crossed the whole night.
INTER-GENDER MATCH: Chris Harris and Gail Kim d. James Storm and Jackie Moore
I could be here all day typing out their nicknames. Pretty good action as the men and women beat each other up. Storm plays the cowardly heel well, and Gail is just... wow... in person. Ending came when Harris pinned Storm.
X-DIVISION TITLE MATCH: Samoa Joe d. AJ Styles
JB let us know that the match had a 30 minute time limit, and even announced when 5 minutes had expired (to which AJ told him to shut the hell up). The match didn't reach 10 minutes, though, because we never got another announcement. Joe hit a muscle-buster out of the corner and that was it.
Kurt Angle and Mystery Partner (Abyss) d. Christian Cage and Tomko
Kurt started out the match without Abyss, but he came down a minute or two later. The ending was quite good as Abyss put Tomko in an ankle lock and Angle put Cage in one and both tapped at the same time. Angle played super face in this match, which was quite odd after watching iMPACT just a few hours beforehand.
After the show, I went over and talked to Jeremy Borash for a minute and let him know he did a good job. He was very easy to talk to and shook everyone's hand who came over.
All and all, a good show and well worth the price of admission. For a house show, the card was stacked with big names and good matches.
Biggest Pops:
5. Team 3D
4. Eric Young
3. Kurt Angle
2. Jay Lethal
1. Rhino
Samoa Joe just didn't seem to click with the locals. Jeremy Borash was very well liked, though.
Biggest Heat:
5. James Storm
4. LAX
3. Robert Roode
2. Christian Cage
1. The New York Yankees (HUUUUUUGE "Yankees Suck" chant before the Team 3D/LAX affair)
More details will be available this Monday in Hidden Highlights. I'll be back tomorrow with a report from the TNA Live event in Lincoln, RI.
