More TNA house show action!
This report is written exclusively for 411mania.com by staff columnist JP Prag.
Just got back from the TNA Live event at the Twin Rivers Events Center in Lincoln, RI. The Events Center is a new addition to old casino that just got renamed after it went out of the business. But were else can you find video slots and a Dunkin' Donuts within five feet of each other? The place can hold about 1500 people and looked to be a little less than half full. The crowd was totally different than the night before. In Cohasset, it was mostly kids and the show reflected that. Tonight was a much older crowd, and a much more smarky one. The chants and language definitely reflected that. The girl a couple of rows behind me really wanted to see two guys... well... I won't go into details.
Special thanks to my buddy Zishan for letting me skip on the remaining events of his bachelor party day so I could go to the show!
Here's the quick and dirty results:
Eric Young d. Robert Roode with Ms. Brooks
Similar to last night in that it involved a lot of Brooks antics and Eric playing comedy. But as a more adult oriented show, Roode, Young, and Brooks certainly let the graphic language fly. A "she's a crackwhore" chant started this match and set the tone for the rest of the evening. The ending came with Young hit a double Death Valley Driver from the second rope with Brooks and Roode on his shoulders. Really impressive.
LAX (Homicide and Hernandez) d. The Naturals (Chase Douglas and Andy Stevens) and Serotonin (Havok and Martyr) in a Three Way match
The crowd was not happy with the stalling and nothing happening and quickly turned on the Naturals in favor of LAX. To their credit, the Naturals started to heel up and cheat the rest of the match while LAX played to the crowd. In a great spot, Hernandez threw Havok over the top rope via the Border Toss onto The Naturals, allowing Homicide to pin Martyr in the ring. The crowd was almost lost until that spot, so good showing by LAX.
"Black Machismo" Jay Lethal d. Kaz
Better showing then the night before with some quick moves and action. Again, rather short and did not showcase all these two had to offer, though Kaz got some laughs for his impersonations of Jay Lethal impersonating the Macho Man.
Brother Runt d. Lance Hoyt
Brother Runt was the hometown hero being announced from Lincoln, RI. Funny part was Jeremy Borash said he was from Twin River. Runt came out and told the crowd that JB was a moron and that there was no Twin Rivers, just Lincoln. That got a good laugh out of the crowd. The match was supposed to be a ten-minute time limit, but it went way longer than that with Hoyt beating up runt in various locales. Hoyt got a lot of heat for not being able to wrestle ("You can't wrestle") and for the match being slow paced. Ending came out of nowhere when Runt hit the Acid Drop.
**** INTERMISSION: Eric Young AND Jay Lethal were signing autographs at the merchandise stand for 20 minutes ****
**** I picked up a Christian Cage shirt for JT. Now, JT is a small dude, but he asked for an XL. Who am I to argue? ****
Abyss d. Christopher Daniels
100% squash. Daniels' pre-match promo letting us know that we were as unwashed as Abyss lasted longer than the match. Abyss came in, Black Hole Slam, and that was all!
James Storm with Jackie Moore d. Chris Harris
I think that's what happened, I kind of missed the end of the match, but it sounded like a superkick to me. Post match, Jackie slapped Harris, who in turn chased her away and he did some comedy routines with Storm's beer bottle. Great moment came during the match when the crowd was chanting "You can't wrestle" at James Storm, he got up in the corner and said, "Yeah, but at least I look good in cowboy hat." Hilarious!
SPECIAL CHALLENGE: Rhino d. AJ Styles
AJ pulled off a lot of quick moves, but again fell to the spear. The crowd was at least 50% behind AJ, even when he tried to heel it up. He told us that he knew he was phenomenal and that he didn't need our support, but that didn't stop us from chanting anyway.
TNA WORLD TAG TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP: Team 3D (Brother Ray and Brother Devon) d. Christian Cage and Tomko
Great fan interaction match as Brother Ray was able to get an entire stand-up act built into the match. He made a lot of gay jokes at Christian and Tomko's expense, and to their credit Christian and Tomko played it up all match with butt swatting and smiles. You could tell they were having a great time. Tomko ate the 3D for the finish. Post match, Team 3D brought two little kids in the ring and thanked them for coming out to see them. One kid wanted his picture of Rhino signed, and Brother Ray was flabbergasted! Unfortunately, Rhino had already left the building, so the kid only got to go into the ring, shake hands with the champs, be thanked personally for coming, and hold a tag team belt. Shucks!
After the show, I went over and talked to Jeremy Borash again and thanked him for another good show to wish him luck on the rest of the tour and help make TNA grow. He didn't remember me from last night, but what can you do?
I was surprised that Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, and Gail Kim were not there considering they were at the show last night. This was a much better venue than the tent, so I thought this would be the show with the most star power. Guess not!
Biggest Pops:
5. LAX
4. AJ Styles
3. Team 3D
2. Rhino
1. Jay Lethal (far and away!)
Biggest Heat:
5. Christian Cage/Tomko (too many people liked them, they were cheered a lot)
4. Robert Roode
3. Lance Hoyt (though not good heat)
2. James Storm
1. Christopher Daniels
More details will be available this Monday in Hidden Highlights. If anyone is attending the show at the Hampton Beach Casino in Hampton, NH tomorrow, be sure to send a report to either me or to Larry, Randle, and Ashish.
