More TNA News: Raven, Barbed Wire Massacre, Global Impact and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 02.05.2008

- Raven is finished with TNA. His contract expired and the company didn't offer him a new one.

- The plan for the Barbed Wire Massacre match is to portray the match as if it is live in Orlando, due to the athletic commission's ruling. There is internal concern as to how the Greenville crowd will respond to the match.

- There is the possibility of a "Global Impact" special coming from the UK shows planned for the summer.

- Internally TNA was pleased with the performances of Tiger Mask on the last Impact tapings, but the same wasn't said for IWGP Champion Shinsuke Nakamura. Apparently nobody could understand why he was being pushed as IWGP champion over Hiroshi Tanahashi.

- The January 25th house show in Troy, Ohio drew over 1,500 paid. The January 26th house show in Niles, Ohio drew a sell out of 1,000 fans in a 600-seat venue, with the other 400 being standing room only.

Raven to WWE!

It looks like Raven may roam the indy circuit for a while - maybe even make an impact with ROH - before retiring from the ring and, if there is ANY justice for wrestling fans, becoming a member of WWE's creative team.

Nice joke Erick. It's doubtful Raven would ever step foot inside a WWE ring again, as he was severely underpushed (his biggest push was when he was Hardcore champion) and made into a jobber for the remainder of his stay there. Levy himself has gone on record for saying that the WWE "Sh*tted on him." He'll probably go indie from here on out.

TNA did do a good job with him before his thyroid issues caught up to him in early 2006.

I still will never forgive WWE for having the last Dreamer vs Raven match on Raw the week BEFORE they went to philly in summer 2002. I only remember this because I had tickets for the philly show and was hoping they would get one more match the following week at their home for a proper send off of the feud.

Instead we got Nash busting his leg and the worse womans wrestling match in the history of the sport.

as a huge TNA supporter since DAY ONE.. im disgusted that they couldnt find anything for Raven to do... pathetic..PATHETIC.. his mind is unmatched.. he could have been an agent or a booker... Jeff Jarret needs to get over himself and over MEMPHIS RASSLIN' and wake the shit up as to where his product is right now because its become a parody of its self and hypocricy is rule #1: "WE ARE WRESTLING!"

I doubt he would go to WWE. He found out there that their idea of a "creative" team is not very creative. They just stopped him from doing anything creative that he wanted to do the last time he was there. If he learned anything while he was there it was to never work for Vince again. Raven going back there to work behind the scenes would be about as likely as Shane Douglas doing that. Unless some promoter with a lot of money comes along and starts up a good wrestling promotion that can afford to pay people like Raven to be on their creative team, I'd say he's probably not going to be in the wrestling business very much longer. He may do indy shows once in a while but that's about it. Wrestling is dead right now in the U.S.A.

I didn't realize that the raw where Nash tore his quad was in Philly... There truly might be a bona fide Wrestling God in the cosmos.

C'mon now people. Raven was great in ECW and passable in WCW, but his whole gimmick was based on the "grunge" scene of the 90's. He might be able to offer something creativly but if you read the interview with Paul Heyman you should see that the E wouldn't let him run with any of his ideas. Wrestling needs NEW ideas from NEW people to reach a NEW audience. The teenagers of the 90's have grown up and moved on for the most part. It's time for something new. The X Division seemed to be that new thing but with the influx of "characters" it has ruined it. Daniels and AJ were tremendous as a team and they broke them up to be Prince AJ and Curry Man. I can only hope the outcome of Samoa Joe's angle is him forming a stable of TNA guys that rebel against the sports entertainment stuff and get on with some interesting matches. But who knows what will happen. Raven, however, isn't much for a new generation. He was good in his day, but that cycle has passed (or as JR says, that ship has sailed).

Whoa whoa whoa. They put Nakamura on fucking Xplosion against Elix Skipper and they're the ones unimpressed? Gee, I WONDER why he wouldn't put up his best effort...

Why would WWE offer Raven a job in the first place? I really doubt they're looking for his creative input (which is a shame), and he's far from in his in-ring prime. If he IS offered a job, he should take it.

Well, if Raven doesn't qualify for a booking team because he's 'the older generation' then what the hell are Dusty Rhodes and Michael Hayes doing on them? I like both guys work in general, but if we're talking age here...

He's always shown a great mind for the business, and is at least a different perspective. Fully retired and able to put his full creative energies into booking, we could see something spectacular.

Also, Raven's gimmick wasn't just a 'grunge' gimmick, he worked as an outsider, and a cult leader, characters which are basic archetypes, but aren't put to any use by the E or TNA at the moment. While he was dressed in a grunge front, that wasn't his character, that's why he was able to keep going long after the death of grunge.

Yeah Nakamura shouldn't be on Xplosion but Tanahashi has impressed me more.

Dissapointed in Nakamura? YOU PUT THE IWGP HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION ON XPLOSION! IF I WERE THE WWE CHAMP, I'D BE PISSED TOO IF I ONLY HEADLINED HEAT. C'MON! AND WHAT DOES TNA KNOW ABOUT PUSHING PEOPLE. I WOULDN'T BE SHOCKED IF THEY'RE MAD THAT NAKAMURA GOT PUSHED OVER INOKI FOR THE TITLE. I'VE TRIED TO DEFEND TNA, BUT NOW THEY'VE GONE TOO FAR. SCREW THEM.

I think Raven could do great as a booker or trainer. Even in ECW he was a locker room general, if you believe the stories about him showing the younger kids UWF tapes and stuff like that. His feud with CM Punk in 2003 is still one of the greatest in ROH history.

IGNORANCE^

I heard rumors that TNA had infact spoken with raven to see if he wanted the job of head booker, i do not know how much truth there is to that, but he is definatly the most underrated wrestler probably ever, his abilities in hardcore matches are nearly unmatched, his character was brilliance, there has not been character like him since, he couldnt work for WWE because WWE barely ever does any kind of stipulation or hardcore match and that is all that raven is good at doing, hes a good wrestler too but without a weapon of some sort hes out of his league
