More Friday WWE news!
- Weekend schedule:
RAW:
* Saturday - Madison, WI
* Sunday - Green Bay, WI
* Monday - Milwaukee, WI [RAW Taping]
SD/ECW:
* Saturday - Oshkosh, WI
* Sunday - Dubuque, Iowa
* Tuesday - Chicago, IL [SD/ECW Taping]
- John Cena will not be working house shows this weekend as he will be in New Orleans filming WWE's new film, 12 Rounds.
- Matt Hardy is being advertised for this weekend's Smackdown/ECW shows, meaning he appears to be ready to return.
- Maria's promotional visit to New York City for her new Playboy issue was a big success. People were turned away at her Virgin Megastore signing due to the large crowd and the store sold out of copies of her Playboy issue. She will now head to LA on 3/13 for more promotion.
- TVJab.com states that the new Trish Stratus travel show we mentioned earlier, Stratusphere, will begin airing on the Travel Channel in August. The show will feature Trish going to different countries and learning about their cultures.
- Phillyblurbs.com has an interview up with Bruno Sammartino. In the interview, Sammartino talks about his dislike of the current wrestling scene, why he doesn't want to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, and more. Check out the interview here.
- There will be an Internet pre-sale for the 5/19 edition of Raw in Kansas City from March 12-14th.
I would say Matt Hardy could return on Raw next week to attack MVP during his Wrestlemania rematch against Chris Benoit. But...Well. I don't think that'll happen.

you're right... they never defend the US title anymore

Is it just me or does anyone actually care what Bruno Sammartino says. He was boring in the ring, and most fans under thirty don't know or care who he is. He should shut up about the wwe and modern wrestling. If you don't like it, fine, just go away.
Posted By: Twisted (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 03:29 PM
bruno sammartino should just mind his damn business. mcmahon does not need his advice and he could care less if he joins the wwe hall of fame.
wwe does not need him for anything.

This is the reason why new fans should just shut up and not go on the internet. They are a bunch of 12 year olds with no respect for the business and are Vince sheep who LOVE Cena. Sammartino is a legend and knows what he is talking about.

Why would anyone pay to see a house show. Titles never change hands and stories never advance on those shows.
Posted By: iomis (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 03:50 PM
Not to burst anyone's bubble, but after seemingly forever of the U.S. Title never being defended, it's on the line against Batista for tonight's Smackdown.

if anyone is interested and from chicago, Maria is going to be at alumni club in Schaumburg tonight. you can find the info on q101's website

sammartino acts like mcmahon should be a babysitter for the wrestlers.
wrestlers need to run their own lives and show some responsibility.
if a guy can't be a wrestler without using drugs, then he should get out of the business.
mcmahon said this himself.
look at trish stratus and the rock. they had success in wwe and moved onto other endeavors and projects. they did not let the road, the drug use temptations ruin their lives. they were smart and saved their wwe money so they could move on and not damage their bodies or minds permanently "just to please fans' cravings for violence".

In regards to why people go to houseshows, I dont see why anyone would even question that. Bruno is a legend indeed, and he should be respected, but then again his opinions are his. Any experienced professional will be biased with newer trends in all fields, movies, music, etc. I look forward to Trish's new show and am happy with Maria's success with playboy although the content was less then par, but thats playboy nowadays.

Sammartino is a legend, but does that make him automatically right? Hell, YOU'RE on this site, so that means you disagree with him and enjoy the current product. Jesus, I wish Stan Hansen would have killed him with his neck breaking Lariat. He's been bitching about vince for YEARS now.

Bruno Sammartino =needs to shut the hell up he actsm like he was all the good in the ring he was just okay, and before you start saying i have only been a fan for 5 years I grew up in New york and saw him in the ring a few times he was just okay but nothing all that good

I laugh at people who call Bruno Boring and that he should mind his own business, thats the problem with Wrestling fans now adays, all they think about is the crap that has been on for the past fifteen years as actual pro wrestling, or that crap ROH, TNA and Chikara.
Bruno, Larry Z, Kowalski, Andre they were all the real Wrestlers. not these jakked up roided out shadows of what wrestling once was

sammartino does not like profanity and vulgarity, well wwe is like many tv shows and movies which use sex and wwe is not targeting senior citizens like sammartino as a fanbase. WWE TARGETS KIDS AND 18 TO 49 YEAR OLD MALES.
mcmahon is not a babysitter. he does not tell these guys to use drugs or steroids.
he even said that if guys need drugs to make it, then they should just quit and get another job for a living. no job is worth killing yourself for in your 30's or 40's.
Posted By: ted (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 05:12 PM
You do know that Bruno used steroids right?
Posted By: Guest#8276 (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 05:29 PM
Bruno's easily one of the most overrated wrestlers ever. You take him out of the Northeast with a less significant immigrant population and he wouldn't draw. When he would go to Carolinas or Kansas City which were more actual wrestling cities than the "walk and talk" of New York, he wouldn't draw even close to what did in the Northeast. Hence, he's not one of the greatest; he didn't have the ability to draw outside of the environment that got him over.

I have never attended a wrestling event. Except Juggalo Championship Wrestling, which you can all feel free to hate on. But from the reports, house shows always seem to be more about wrestling, which seems to be what the fans want these days.
All I want is a good story told in the ring, backed up by promos. Not by endless promos, rat on a pole matches, midget vs. daddy cage matches, and 2 minute squash matches.
But maybe I'm the only one.

Wasn't "12 Rounds" the movie Triple H was supposed to be starring? Does he still participate in it or Jonh Cena as taken his spot (don't you love it when art imitates life)?
Posted By: Kristi (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 07:21 PM
I'm guessing people are hating on Sammartino because he's not kissing Vince's ass like they want to do.
Posted By: TWilliams (Guest) on March 07, 2008 at 07:51 PM
A lot of people bitch about Vince McMahon. But the fact is WWE is still hugely popular under his control. I think some guys forget Wrestling is about entertainment first. It's not Olympic mat wrestling, it's not MMA. There is a market for more traditional stuff, hence ROH but I can't see ROH ever being as popular as the WWE. Can you?
Also it's not like Steroids are rampant these days. The WWE paid for Jake Roberts rehab and look likely to pay for X-Pacs too, would that have happened in Bruno's day? I doubt it. Sure Vince only introduced things like the wellness policy due to outside pressure and he still works wrestlers hard, but they can always walk away and go places like TNA for a lighter schedule.
As for the hall of fame, well that's his choice. Nothing wrong with him wanting nothing to do with that or the WWE.

For the people saying that Bruno should shut his mouth and mind his own business, consider this: The man spent countless years of his life in this business, he is a legand. Therefor this IS his business. He has every right to voice his pleasure OR displeasure with the current direction of it.
As for Jamal's response to "I Hate WWE Marks"...spot on my man. Was thinking the same thing when I read it.
I personally enjoy Cena, and I am FAR from a WWE mark. 90% of what they do bores the hell out of me...I'm actually a TNA "mark", as only about 50% of thier stuff bores the hell out of me. But alot of forget the biggest factor in all of this....To each his own.
I don't criticise WWE "marks" because they get enjoyment out of the product, just like I don't want to her any shit on me for enjoying TNA's product. Watch what you like.
Also, I may finally have a reason to watch the travel channel. I want me some Stratusfaction baby!

Tonight, old people argue with young people about what "real wrestling" is.
Here's a hint: it's fake.
I could not care less what Sammartino thinks, and to that one guy, I don't like Cena either.

I hope Trish Stratus's t.v show will air in Canada only & due respect their hometown... I'm gald Bruno tell true and try his best to make fans understand and he need to be in the buessiness, not "mind his own business" where everyone's respect to Bruno? 411mania president won't like it...... I think 411mania should closed website until Fall of 2008, I'm truly sorry but the way I see everyone disrespect to Bruno wasn't acceptable in comment post.

Iomis asked why would anyone pay for a house show? I live in the Atlantic City area and WWE only run sthrough here occasionally. The only time I was able to see Benoit or Angle perform live were at house shows here. Granted sometimes the matches are phoned in, but there have been others where they get into the crowd and out of character more, basically just to have fun. I been to a great house show but I have not been to bad one either.
