More WWE News: Backlash Matches, Detroit Pre-Sale Password, Trish Speaks On WWE Divas
Posted by Ashish on 04.02.2008
Another Wednesday news update...
- The following two matches are set for WWE Backlash.
* The Undertaker vs. Edge for the World Title
* Kane vs. Chavo Guerrero for the ECW Title
- The pre-sale password for the 5/12 RAW taping in Detroit, Michigan is RAWWWE. The pre-sale begins at 10 AM Wednesday morning.
- Sent in by Adam Lebow: During their Wrestlemania recap show that airs on Fight Network Radio, The LAW aired a clip of an interview that they taped for next week with Trash Stratus where she gives her thoughts to co-host Jason Agnew about the Bunnymania match that happened on Sunday. The following is a transcript of the brief clip they played as a teaser for next weeks show which is at 11pm on CFRB 1010 Toronto and other Fight Network Radio affiliate stations.Vince may not like it so much...
Jason Agnew: You know, I am looking at someone like Beth Phenoix, who is really a good in-ring worker and is in a Playboy Mania match at Wrestlemania, any thoughts on that because I think you and her in a match would be much more entertaining than what they are doing right now.
Trish Stratus: Ya, well what is it called, Bunny Mania?
Jason Agnew: Ya
Trish Stratus: Ok I think... (makes spitting sound). I'm sorry did you get that? Did I make you wet with that? Um... (laughs) I don't, I have always been this way, I think there is a place for it because particularly there is a deal with playboy so there is obviously a place for it, there always will be, but I really think they could always provide the other additional idea, that is kind of what I did, I had the women's storyline going for the women's championship and then it's like Beth is the champion and there is no women's championship match, so I just... boo hoo, I don't like it. I don't like it one bit Jason.
Trish should return in all her hotness and take the title from that "manbeast" Beth Pheonix. She reminds me too much of Chyna, and CHYNA is no place I'd care to spend even ONE night in.
And thats all the people need to know...

The only reason people think Beth is "manly" is because WWE is promoting her as a dominant woman instead of a pretty girl.
She's fucking hot, fella.

Why is Phoenix so difficult for people to spell?
Posted By: JD Koziarski (Registered) on April 02, 2008 at 03:10 AM
ya know, the WWE should just scrap the Diva bullshit completely OR do the unthinkable, and copy TNA in creating a LEGITIMATE women's division.
the bikini clad anorexic whore era is over, done with and been buried for about 6 years now. the Diva bullshit is the last lingering smelly vestige of the Attitude era left, and it really really doesn't fit in the direction the WWE is trying to head.

You gotta think that they'll retire the Cruiserweight Title bacause of the lack of interest. Is this the future for the Womens Championship?
Posted By: J-X Boxer (The Smug One) (Guest) on April 02, 2008 at 04:04 AM
fuckin kudos, Trish
and stfu hater, Beth Phoenix is hot, you're just intimidated because she could snap you in half
also, no interest in the Women's championship? yeah I think maybe that's because we hardly have any legitimate airtime, storylines, and and hardly any actual wrestling going on
Posted By: Drue Phoenix (Guest) on April 02, 2008 at 04:19 AM
Phoenix doesn't do anything for me personally, but I don't see her as manly. Isn't it possible for a girl to be strong and attractive?

Any questions with regard to Beth's hotness can be answered by watching her promos in OVW. nuff said

Trish vs Beth would make my pants very happy! Hell add Mickie James for a Triple Threat of hotness AND T&A... we all win!

Thank you so much for the presale password for the Detroit show. I was so worried that I wouldn't find it and wouldn't get tickets. You made my day!

You know I'm getting really sick of these 10 title rematches per PPV routines WWE keep up these days.
It's just another sign of the too many PPV's thing. How many times do fans have to pay for the same match that they've seen the last 2 months or more in some cases?
Posted By: Col (Guest) on April 02, 2008 at 07:40 AM
i miss the days when competition for the womens title was rife, when, well, there was actually a proper wrestling women's division.
not to take anything away from the women who are able in the ring, but the 'e isnt doing anything with them. instead, we get ashley in wrestlemania! wth..
Posted By: steph (Guest) on April 02, 2008 at 09:23 AM
What Trish needs to do if she's gonna get back in this business is go to TNA and work with some actual wrestlers and put on 4-star matches.

Why do people compare Beth Phoenix's looks to Chyna?
Beth Phoenix isn't the greatest looking "diva" but she is Jessica Alba compared to Chyna.

I have to agree. I mean, Kane vs. Chavo is one thing since we never really got much of an actual match. I am sure they can have a really good match when given some time instead of just getting ten seconds to leave time for everything else. I'd even given them some slack considering we've never really seen Undertaker vs. Edge before Wrestlemani (other than in one triple threat match), so it is still a fresh feud. However, it is something they do WAY too often, and it does get very old. I'm all for long feuds (so long as they realize there is a such thing as TOO long), but it gets lame seeing the same matches at back to back pay per views again and again, sometimes three PPVs in a row. They need to build up more main event competitors so more people can get title shots like back when it was really good. It doesn't make a champion look terribly impressive when he's only beaten one or two challengers because he has to face them both three times. It also doesn't make a new champion look too impressive when it took him three times to finally win the title from the same guy.
Doesn't make the title look terribly important either. They always claim a shot at the title is so important, and can be so hard to come by. But, it honestly seems more like if you get one and lose... no big deal! You'll have about fifty more chances in the upcoming weeks. Hell, suspending disbelief for a moment they way we are meant to when watching... if this were a real sport, anybody could pull out a lucky win once when given several shots.

Col, Backlash has ALWAYS been about rematches from Wrestlemania. All tho I'm not that high on Kane-Chavo (because it'll be another squash)
I don't really have any problems with it aside from that.

I have to agree with CM Wolfe. If you have any questions about Beth's hotness, check out her segments from OVW with Idol Stevens, and Shelley (Salinas from TNA) She is way hot, and she can wrestle. She was wasted in the Bunny Mania match. At least she won.
I wonder if the recent Candace injury will mean we get to see more matches between Beth and Mickie.
Posted By: Todd (Guest) on April 02, 2008 at 10:34 AM
Col, I agree with you sort of. Edge vs. Undertaker was a great match and Kane vs. Chavo is guaranteed to be longer since Chavito isn't being caught off guard. Take in the fact that we may see another Triple Threat for the WWE title, Khali vs. Big Show and Batista vs. HBK, and I'm already looking forward to Backlash.

Dude in the first comment, I would go nuts with Beth Phoenix. Literally.
I would be having a two hour Iron Man match with her, giving her the patented Warrior Piledriver and a modified mandible claw that doesn't use the hands. That Fisherman's Suplex that she does? Yes ma'am, sign me up.

I hear ya. I groaned when I heard Chavo was getting a rematch. As much as I bitched about their match only getting ten seconds at Mania, I then thought, 'no, wait, that was a service!' because I didn't wanna sit through another ten minutes of bland Chavo.
At this point, even the corpse of Eddie would be a more entertaining opponent to Kane than Chavo. It would also make more sense, character wise. Book it!

They'll never copy TNA. The deal with playboy has made both sides too much money. TNA/Jarrett/Russo did something that Vince will never ever do, they put someone in charge of it that cares about it. Scotty D'Amore deserves so much credit for not only the booking of it, but the eye to go out and raid shimmer of its talent. Now the fact that the best women's wrestler on the planet is wearing a burqa each week could be discussed, but I think that will end after this ppv and she shows herself to be pure talent. I truly believe if Trish were to ever come back it would most likely would be to TNA. I mean she would probally get exposed as a wrestler. I mean she looks good wrestling divas, but I doubt she would actually wrestling women that have a work-rate.

Saying Beth Phoenix looks like a man is as ridiculous as when they had JR and Lawler saying Molly Holly had a fat ass. It's not true and it's uncalled for. As a matter of personal taste I can get how Beth doesn't do it for everybody, but for so many of us to think she's hot she's obviously got a lot going for her. To have that combination of looks AND talent is too rare, I wish there were ten more like her. In the meantime, watching Awesome Kong tear opponents apart like Vader circa 1993 is great entertainment.

um...from a kayfabe point of view, the former champion is always supposed to get a rematch as the new champion's first title defense.
what waters things down is that there are too many pay per views in a year to make title hunts worthwhile. as it stands, most (not all) title hunts are still 2+ months long, but now have to be played out in monthly pay per views.
the wwe needs to restructure the way they deal with the pay per views, in my opinion.
not to get to heavily into fantasy booking here, but i would have the Heavyweight Titles (all three) defended ONLY on the Big Four pay per views plus 2 at random through out the year.
i would scrap 7 or the remaining 8 pay per views, keeping Taboo Tuesday (or whatever the hell it is called) as the gimmick pay per view.
i would leave the secondary titles (tag team, US and IC) defended monthly on television, and have the respective Heavyweight Champ also do a monthly title defense, but have the Heavyweight championship focused on the big chase for the belt.
this would allow the secondary title holders the opportunity to build themselves up, return relevance to the secondary titles, and make heavyweight title hunts meaningful again.
just a wishful thinking thing tho...

OK, let the gay jokes come, but I gotta be honest. I HATE the Diva crap. I want wrestling when I watch wrestling. The question should be be whether Beth Phoenix is hot, all you 4th graders, but whether she can wrestle. If you wanna stroke off, pull out your SI swimsuit issues. Hooray for Trish. She started as cheesecake and became a great wrestler. Who since then has done that? Victoria and Beth don't count Because they started off good.

Morons, it's fucking BACKLASH. It's supposed to have rematches from WrestleMania.

WWE should keep up the Diva thing to an extent, they should try to get more real moves out of girls and let the truly bad ones just be valets, but I've got no problem with babes on my screen!
as for the rematchs thing, I admit WWE does that a bit too much, but Backlash is differnt it's part of how wrestlemania works, proving the new champs dominance! however it does get annoying because Wrestlemania should be where the Dream matches happen and too many Wrestlemania rematches means the matches run the risk of not being dream rematches anymore. Pro Wrestling requires a balance of giving fans what they want, and holding it for the Biggest Nights to make those nights more special. it's hard to draw the line just right.

What do you mean the bikini clad whore era is over?
They have about triple the number of women they did in 1999.

I have to say, I think Beth Phoenix is my pick for third-best looking wrestler on the roster -- second if you disqualify Maria, although she's getting in the ring enough that Scott Keith only trashed Ashley in the BunnyMania match. Still, without her, Mickie's number one and Beth's a close second.
Posted By: MadmanJack (Guest) on April 03, 2008 at 01:40 AM
Beth doesn't do anything for me, but she's no more 'manly' than Amelie Mauresmo the tennis player. There's nothing wrong with women being 'handsome'. Besides, she obviously has other things going for her, namely talent and a drive to succeed.
