WWE House Show Results 4.17.08 – La Coruña, Spain

Thanks to 411 reader Diego Sánchez de la Cruz for sending these results along!

Hey everyone. WWE continues it’s success in Spain. In their third visit in about two years, they have sold out four arenas. Tonight’s show in La Coruña was the last one before they head to Lisbon (Portugal) and end their European Tour.

To kick things off, a very hot crowd welcomes Lilian Garcia who talked some Spanish, sang a cute little song and introduced the first match of the evening.

CODY RHODES vs. WILLIAM REGAL

Good heel work by Regal. Rhodes did get a decent reaction but I found him horrible and very unimpressive. He looks really ‘green’ in the ring. Only good thing about the guy is his physique. After a few nice moves by Regal, Cody was able to fight back and get the win with a roll-up, after botching a bulldog that was meant to end the match.

Winner: Cody Rhodes

INTERGENDER TAG-TEAM MATCH
MARIA & VAL VENIS vs. PAUL BURCHILL & KATIE LEA

Maria was SO over with the fans… The ovation she got for the Bronco Buster was huge. Most people barely knew Burchill or Val. Okay match. Burchill didn’t show much here. Val Venis was good, I’d love to see him back on RAW more often. Maria pinned Katie for the win.

Winner: Maria & Val Venis

D.H. SMITH vs. SNITSKY

A few minutes into the match, I realized Dean Malenko was at ringside, watching the match with Lilian Garcia. I guess he was taking a look at Smith, who looks just like his father really. This was better than expected. Smith looked good, he could have some potential… Snitsky was good working the crowd, and I think he’d benefit more from longer matches than from the meaningless ‘squash routine’ he seems to be stuck into. Snitsky won this match.

Winner: Snitsky

TRIPLE THREAT TAG-TEAM MATCH
LANCE CADE & TREVOR MURDOCH vs. SANTINO MARELLA & CARLITO vs. BRIAN KENDRICK & PAUL LONDON

Great match between this six. Cade and Murdoch showed some nice double teams. Carlito and Santino got HUGE heat after a great heel promo by Carlito with some assistance by Marella, who is simply hilarious to watch. As for Kendrick and London, the crowd loved them. Brian Kendrick worked most of the match, taking all the offense by Cade, Murdoch, Carlito and Santino. Match ends with the hot tag and some wonderful offense by Paul London. He pinned Carlito for the victory. After the match, Carlito and Santino stayed a little longer. They seemed to have fun working the crowd. I think this tag team needs more air time on RAW, they are really good. As for Cade and Murdoch, I hope WWE does not split this two up like it’s rumored. If they are serious about the tag-team division, they need to keep Cade and Murdoch in the mix.

Winners: Brian Kendrick and Paul London

WWE WOMEN’S TITLE
MICKIE JAMES vs. BETH PHOENIX

Good match. Crowd was into it from the beginning, and kept chanting ‘Mickie! Mickie!’ the whole time. Mickie won the match with a DDT.

Winner: Mickie James

Lilian Garcia threw some T-Shirts into the crowd and we went to intermission. After 15 minutes, we came back with JBL vs. Hardcore Holly.

JBL vs. HARDCORE HOLLY

HUGE heat on JBL from the second his music echoed. He cut a heel promo that really made the crowd angry. He finished it by singing ‘God bless America’. Classic. Holly had the crowd on his side, but this match wasn’t as good as it could have been. I mean, come on, if you put this two together, do it the right way and make it a Street Fight… JBL wins it with the Clothesline from Hell. Bob didn’t get much offense. Holly stayed in the ring and sold the beating for a good while.

Winner: JBL

At this time, Lilian thanks us for an ‘unforgettable night’ and introduces the Main Event.

MAIN EVENT MATCH
HHH & CHRIS JERICHO vs. UMAGA & RANDY ORTON

Crowd love HHH and Jericho. Umaga and Orton got mixed reactions, but both were clearly over. Umaga and Jericho worked some of what they did on RAW, then tagged HHH and Orton who took the action all over Ring-Side and finished it in the middle of the ring, where after some false finishes, Hunter pedigreed Orton for the pin.

Winners: HHH and Chris Jericho

HHH and Jericho stayed for 10-15 minutes posing for the fans, thanking the crowd… Lilian thanked us once again and that was it. We got no ECW stars, no Kennedy, no HBK and no John Cena. Crowd seemed pleased, though. I enjoyed the show, mainly the Three Way Tag-Team Match, the Main Event and JBL’s promo.

During the last year or so, WWE has become very popular in Spain, similar to what happened in Italy some years ago. Their popularity is such that this weekend, Madrid and Barcelona will host two sold-out shows for Nu Wrestling Evolution. However, while these shows will feature talent like Booker T, Rikishi or Ultimate Warrior (who is advertised to appear in a non-wrestling role), this NWE guys have taken advantage of WWE’s popularity in Spain and advertised themselves in a very ambiguous way. I will not be surprised if 50% (or more) of the people attending their shows are actually expecting to watch a WWE event…

It is expected WWE will come back in the near future. They are making BIG business here in Spain.

BIGGEST HEAT

1- JBL
2-Carlito and Santino Marella
3- Randy Orton (although he also got cheered)

BIGGEST POP

1-HHH
2-Maria
3-Jericho
