Foley To Work As Announcer For Backlash Tonight
Posted by Ashish on 04.27.2008

WWE has officially announced that Mick Foley will be calling the Smackdown matches alongside Michael Cole on the Backlash PPV tonight. The WWE.com article seemed to imply that Foley will be the regular Smackdown announcer alongside Cole from now on. WWE.com's article on this is available here.

YESYESYES! =D=D=D

Now if they make him 2006 heel Foley ("I sold out alright, Madison Square Garden!"), it will be as good as JBL.

That alone may be worth the price of Backlash!

OK, so I guess I'll be watching Smackdown regularly now. Sweet.

This is great news for Smackdown! Foley and Cole should make an interesting announce team!! Hopfully Foley is a Heel announcer such as The King was back in the day!! maybe even get in the ring for a few more matches!

Foley should be on ECW! It makes more sence for him to be there than Smackdown.

Good news. Finally someone who we might actually like will have a chance at the mic. Even if he doesn't light the world on fire, it's MICK F'N FOLEY!

On the other hand, I hope he stays behind the announcing desk. The match vs Edge was a perfect in-ring farewell, no need to climb in there any more.

Having said that...
GO MICK! Prove to us all that you can be a brilliant announcer.

There's no way that Foley will be a heel announcer. That being said, I think he'll do a great job!

We've been saved from Coachman's stupidity!! Foley is God!! Now for Adamle...

Will Coach replace Adamle?

Posted By: Dead Beat (Guest)  on April 27, 2008 at 04:17 PM

Yeah, I think people are fooling themselves if they think Mick's going heel here. Still, great news.

Posted By: Wade (Guest)  on April 27, 2008 at 04:39 PM

Maybe this means Coach will be moved to ECW. Honestly, I think Coach would do a lot better with Tazz than Adamle.

I'm so excited about Foley being on Smackdown now. I will definetely be watching this week. Hopefully with Foley in the announce booth, it will help to increase Smackdown's increasingly falling reatings.

Adamle and Foley both making their pay-per-view announcing debuts...Backlash is an epic win without even thinking about the matches.

This almost makes me want to order the PPV. Almost.

You all are so stupid, acting like just because Foley is on Smackdown, you'll watch it now.

This guy will do anything for a buck, he's trying to beat Terry Funk's record of coming in and out of retirement I think.

Foley shouldnt be 100% heel but it would be great if he took different sides of an argument with Cole. Or maybe when Cole is crying out "NOT THIS WAY, DAMMIT, NOT THIS WAY" Foley can shove a sock down his throat.

Speaking of Mick Foley, everyone should go see the movie ANAMORPH with Mick Foley in it. Its a pretty good film.

Why didn't they think of Foley sooner? That's a genius move.

I lost all interest in Foley after his last book when he became everything he railed against in his first 2 books.

I think he'll do fine......but personally I just don't have interest in him anymore.

I'm glad Foley is replacing Coach, but it would make more sense for him to be on ECW than that piece of crap Adamle. But it doesn't really matter to me since I don't watch ECW.

Well since Regal is King of Ring he will step down as GM and Coach will be new GM. Or better yet Coach can become a manager with the Black Movement they want. New N.O.D. with Coach showing up on RAW saying he is tired of all the abuse he has taken over the years and brings out a new stable with Burke, MVP, Henry, Shelton, & Killings.

Awsome. Foley is God and if Coach replaces Mike, at least Coach knows the moves/wrestlers.

Foley could be similar to JBL, where he's objective, only moreso.

Great! We can sit through the insufferable tub of lard talking about how he made Edge,HHH,Matt Hardy,Sting etc... careers.Great! He's his own biggest fan is the "Hardcore Legend"

Now what will happen to coach, is he going to replace Adamle, is he back to being Mr McMahon's flunky? I'm just happy to see a very over former competiter's opinion instead of A career announcers. Coach has his place, but it isn't calling matches. Great GM! bad commentator.

I don't think Coach is going to be leading a black stable, rather I think the initiative will be more black wrestlers, probably a few face turns for them, and hopefully new blakc champs. I predict BDV and Henry, Brotha's of Destruction, or Burke and Benjamin, and Cryme Tyme might be getting tag gold. MVP might be going up the World title picture. and new black wrestlers will be looked for to go into the developmental system.

Like I said in my dumb column, ideally I would have liked to see Foley head over to ECW and let Smackdown have Cole & Tazz back, but this is still a big-time improvement. Coach is great in small doses on commentary when he's in full-on McMahon croney mode, but he and Cole have been bombed. Great news for Smackdown!

LOL, so true!

I don't see what everybody is pissing their pants for, Foley wasn't that good as an announcer during the first One Night Stand.

Coach replacing Adamle is like surviving the Titanic only to be picked up by the Andrea Doria.

As long as he introduces Adamle to Socko, it's a good thing

"I don't see what everybody is pissing their pants for, Foley wasn't that good as

Maybe because while Foley does not exactly set the world on fire, if it means giving The Coach the boot on commentary role, as far as I am concerned, most certainly welcomed change. I will easily take Mic Foley over The Coach any day of the week.

Bottom line, I think it might just be case of people, in general, being reliefed that, in all likely hood, they will no longer have to listen to The Coach, versus the idea of Mic Foely actually being good or great announcer.

Here's a scary thought, with JR's medical problems I wonder if Vince is thinking of a King/Coach team.

Best damn news!

I like Coach, but I just don't think he is that great on commentary. Also, I always tend to prefer commentary teams with one career commentator and one ex-wrestler. I think that works best. You've got the guy who is (or at least should be) just like us. A life long fan. So, he is the expert from outside the ring just like a lot of us. Then you have the guy who has actually experienced it in the ring, so he can give a different perspective on things.

Also, I am a HUGE Mick Foley fan. Is he a great commentator? I don't know, but it has got to be an improvement over Coach. I may actually have to check out Smack Down now just to see how he does.

That said, I like Coach, and I agree with some of you. Coach would be a huge improvement over Adamale. I'd love to see them now move Coach to ECW with Tazz and ditch Adamale completely. I think Coach could actually do a pretty good job with Tazz as his partner. Bottom line, I like Coach and would love to see him continue to be there in some capacity, but he and Cole just don't gel well as a commentary team.
