Randy Orton Speaks On His Character, Clashing With WWE Management, His Future, More
Posted by Ashish on 04.28.2008

The Baltimore Sun has an inteview up with Randy Orton. Highlights are below.

On his character: "I'd say there's a lot of me in that character. I've always kind of been to myself. I wouldn't say I'm a complete [jerk] in real life, but on the show I just turn the volume up."

On having kids: "It's definitely changed me/ I have a wonderful wife that wouldn't hurt a fly, and I think a lot of that has rubbed off on me. I can't wait to be a dad, and the fact that I'm going to have a little girl - I jumped through the roof when we were at the doctor's office and he said that we were going to have a daughter."

On his clashes with WWE management: "I definitely had a big head, and I'll be the first to admit that I made some bad decisions. But back when I was making those decisions, in my head I was doing no wrong. I was forced, more or less, to go to anger management. I was either going to make myself and everyone around me miserable, or I was going to realize that there's more than one person on this Earth. It definitely has made me a better person."

On his future: "I definitely see myself trying to get some longevity out of my career. I'm loyal to this company. I don't necessarily see myself branching out and doing movies like [John] Cena, and Rock and Mr. Kennedy. I think they're a little more well-rounded than me. When it comes to wrestling, I'm 100 percent confident in my abilities, and I see myself being in the ring as long as my body can handle it. As long as my health is good and I'm not jeopardizing my family, I see myself pushing forward and being a champion as many times as I can – being a six, seven-, eight-time world champion. I want to work with guys like Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Edge, and have good feuds and do entertaining stuff, and I know I'm capable of it."

Never liked his character and I'll be happy to never see him on tv again.

And you would know because you know him personally or just read the internet?

I just hope he doesn't stop pooping in gum bags and trashing hotel rooms. That's the Orton I like.

Orton is reaching HHH levels with the haters out there, which is unfortunate because he is one of the best at it today. Real jerk or not...the dude can wrestle. I (possibly for one) am sad the age of Orton is over and can only hope this is a clue to Orton being on Smackdown where he will be a much needed big time player.

He needs the pyro pose again...I always got a kick out of that.

orton is a great ON SCREEN character, but he'd make a total ass in a real life situation...and from what i've read recently there's not a whole lot of difference on and off camera. from the last part of the interview i'd say he's going to smackdown.

it's ironic this came out roughly the same time a story about his immaturity got revealed.

I think he had a quick relapse but I think considering the progress (and money) he's made the company will keep him, but probably give him a handler on the road.

Besides no way is Vince heartless enough to fire a man who's about to have a kid!

" I have a wonderful wife that wouldn't hurt a fly..."

What a weird, weird thing to say.

i have heard several shoot interviews of his on youtube and on the web. he is a total prick. it is freaking hilarious. he knows where he stands in the company and uses that to his advantage.

When are they going to just abort this piece of human waste? sad to say the best Orton in the business was Ace, and thats not saying much.

Posted By: CM Wolf (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 03:22 PM

he's one of the best villains in WWE right now, I mean he has good matches on PPV for the most part, and his promos are improved since he got the title.

That will not be the last time he has the gold either.

randy orton is the barry bonds of wrestling.
-both used their famous names to get ahead.
-both are willing to tell anyone who wants to listen or not how great they are.
-both are a-holes.
-despite their ability to self fellate themselves. you can not deny how great they are.

CM Wolf - don't be hating on Cowboy Bob. Sure, the guy was a bit lacking when it came to charisma, but he was a tremendous worker.

Maybe he's just a whole lot smarter than we give him credit for and he's been playing us for years...I don't think anyone can judge him unless you know him. He sounds like a humbled man who is truly greatful for his lifestyle.

I love the people who argue against those calling Orton a jerk with the old "and you know this because you personally know him?"

Like it's impossible to, with a near 6 year body of work to view, make educated guesses.

I've never seen a hydrogen bomb, and I've never been to Hiroshima or Nagasaki, but I'm pretty sure those bombs are dangerous, and that those cities were leveled.

That, without even knowing those cities personally!

Read Marie, Dawn.

When Orton heard he was having a girl he did jump through the doctor's roof because he was executing an RKO on his wife for not having a heir to the Orton throne. And what was with the commment about being in the ring as long as it doesn't jeopardize his family? "Benoit Alert!"

"I want to work with guys like Rey Mysterio, The Undertaker, Edge, and have good feuds and do entertaining stuff, and I know I'm capable of it"

Ummm, has Mr. Orton already forgotten that he HAS worked with Undertaker AND Edge? And possibly Mysterio (I can't be sure - my memory can't recall EVERY match I see, lol.)

Orton is awesome

Why isnt Vince doing hotel skits with this guy?!?!?! Have a guy give him his food when hes sleep, then have Orton beat the crap outta him... duh

Posted By: Brad (Guest)  on April 28, 2008 at 07:00 PM

He seems very definite about things today.

I never thought I'd say this a year ago, but I'm actually a Randy Orton mark. I can relate to his character and his in ring style is so methodical and believable. You guys may hate the guy, i'm actually a fan of his recent work.

I didn't know Hitler personally, but I know he's a prick because of the overwhelming number of first-hand reports that he was a prick. Same applies.

To all Orton-haters, one day in 30 yrs time Orton will be being inducted into the Hall of Fame and u'll be chanting 'Thank-You Orton'. If u can't see this heel is the future, u are blind!

Orton is an arrogant jerk. He was incredibly rude to his 'guide' in a recent to Liverpool (UK) - and married or not, expecting a daughter or not - didn't stop him trying to give his phone number to someone who caught his eye. I hope he gets buried in the mid card upon his return from suspension.
