WWE News: Coachman Getting Other Gigs, Foley/Smackdown, Great Khali
Posted by Ashish on 04.29.2008

- WWE has announced that Mick Foley will do commentary on Smackdown each week starting with this Friday's episode.

- The camera crew following around the Great Khali is from TV Today Network in India. They have shot footage of Khali in Atlanta, Baltimore and will be shooting him in Atlantic City at the Smackdown taping. He will then be followed back to India. Khali is a major star in India which is why the network is covering him so much.

- Jonathan Coachman called the NY Dragons Arena Football game on Saturday for the MSG Network.

As a fan of Arena Football, I'm offended by having Coach call a game.

I can't help but to feel bad for the Coach... He wasn't good on commentary, but it's not like he asked for that gig.

VINTAGE UNDERTAKER is Cole Slaw's phrase. You'll still hear it. Over and over and over and over and over and over. And if you don't like that, you'll get a boot to the SKULL!!!!!!

Actually, Vintage Undertaker is alive and well, Cole still has a job.

Even though Coach is a subpar wrestling announcer, I've always heard he was pretty good at calling legit sports like football. I say congrats on the job and hope he does well with it.

As for Foley, I was skeptical at first because I keep remembering his announcing at the first One Night Stand, which was basically him out there sucking up to the E while Styles got to be Joey Styles. I was relieved to hear he improved on his announcing style Backlash. Maybe we can all stop watching Smackdown on mute (those of us who actually watch it).

i wasnt all that impressed by foley and cole's chemistry at backlash, but i'm sure over time mick will get more comfortable in his new position and be an excellent commentator like jbl and tazz before him.

Foley might have been a bit rough around the edges at first, but one thing I absolutely loved about it: He didn't constantly talk. Coach and Don West have this thing to where they have to fill the silence constantly and make themselves heard. I cannot stand that.

I didn't see a whole lot of Backlash, but what I did see/hear was Foley talking when he needed to and letting Cole handle it from there. That's exactly what a color commentator should do, enhance the experience. I think he could be as good as King or Tazz. I wasn't too big on JBL, but that's my opinion.

Here's hoping Coach and Foley enjoy what they're doing, because I think Foley being behind the desk just means less chance of him getting back in the ring for random one-off matches.

Doesn't anyone remember Coach and Al Snow's commentary on RAW a few years back?? They were awesome! I'd take them over JR and Lawler anyday! Coach is the man.

I actually think Coach would do well as a play by play guy in wrestling on a show like ECW. He lacks the experience and personality to be the color commentator, and his last stint as a PBP man sucked because they had him work heel, which only works for the color man. Being a legit sportscaster, if he was allowed to be an unbiased PBP guy I think he could be better than Cole within a year
