WWE News: SD Title Situation, Foley’s Commentating, HHH as Thor, Mysterio’s Return and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 05.13.2008

- Vince McMahon himself made the call to strip the Undertaker of the World Title. The feeling is that Edge makes for a better champion than challenger, and that the Undertaker as champion needs great challengers. Taker vs. Batista has been done a lot, and the feeling is that Edge vs. Taker isn't a "money PPV match."

- HHH and Kevin McKidd (from HBO's Rome) are both being considered for the main role in the upcoming "Thor" movie. The film is scheduled for a late spring 2010 release.

- Mick Foley is trying to work similar to Jim Cornette and Kevin Sullivan in the color commentator's role. Foley feels that both men were underrated, due to the fact that they made their character secondary and did everything they could to get the matches and angles over.

- Originally the plan for the June 1st "One Night Stand" PPV was to feature the return of Rey Mysterio. It doesn't appear as if he will be back in time, and has been pulled from all June house shows.

- Bret Hart's speech to developmental was not a scheduled event. He was in Florida, visiting a friend that works for TNA (which started rumors that he was going to talk with them) and Nattie Neidhart asked him to drop by and speak to the trainees. He did and reportedly had a very good time doing so.

- Kevin Thorn is still working out of FCW, and is back to the "vampire" gimmick.

I know I will get bashed for this, but I couldnt agree more about Edge and Taker. Edge is an AWESOME, WHC and would much rather see him as champion than him chasing the belt.

Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 12:02 AM

Oh brilliant!!! Give the belt back to the guy who lost fair and square and make him a FRAUDULT champion...yeah brilliant. That's incredibly retarded logic...and Cena was right, Vinnie Mac is a lunatic. This is the second week in a row I've skipped RAW because of the new wave of dumbassery. What a horrible time for wrestling on TV. Absolutely horrible.

edge is a total asshole. he is by far the top heel in the entire wwe. i could sse at judgement day taker chokes out edge witht he devil's cross. edge taps out, but the move is illegal and he wins and taker loses. MAD HEEL HEAT.

@ the other Anonymous:

I think thats what his point was. He's talking about Vince's booking logic if you had half a brain you would have noticed that. Stop trying to sound too smart for everyone you just looked like a fool.

P.S. you're a moron.

It's not a money PPV match, but I could have sworn I'd seen it main event a PPV somewhere before... Maybe the most important PPV of the year. I don't know..

Posted By: Guest#1593 (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 12:42 AM

Edge vs UT isn't a money PPV match yet, it is YOUR JUDGMENT DAY WWE WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE MATCH! That makes sense! I guess they are putting a lot of hope in buys on that big ol' Morrison/Miz vs Kane/CM Punk tag team match. Oh wait, Vince hates tag matches too.

Mark my words: Rey Misterio's gazillionth comeback won't last long. He'll spend more time on the DL than in the ring this year.

Who's that limping out the sky? R-E-Y Misterio...here we go...for another rehab stint.

Rey, QUIT NOW!

This was shot down over a year ago, I don't know why the dirt sheets are resurrecting it. Maybe the loss of the director had something to do with it but this STILL reads exactly the same as it did over a year ago, especially with the mentioning of Kevin McKidd and the mentioning of Rome, which as been long gone for awhile now also.

hey how about if we get Taker vs Thor?buys or no buys?hahahahaha

As much as I love The Undertaker, he doesnt really need that belt.

And you know what? If Edge wins the belt back. Then im 100 % sure that CM Punk is gonna be World Heavyweight Champion soon!

this whole vicki and edge thing is disgusting and stupid she is such a skank eddie is rolling over in his grave. do think she need cash that bad or is just a attention whore and the whole edge running in and stealing the show thing is over done as well as his man whoring lmao give us back wrestling vince dammit not this talking for thirty mins bull shiat u r dropping now give us a good soap oprea to watch instead of this vicki edge puke fest we have now

I love how people get so pissed when people get heat at Taker's expense. People get sooo passionate. I think what the poster was talking about is how upset anonymous was at this. It makes some sense, and probably complete sense to Vince. I do agree that Edge is a great champ and that Taker is better in pursuit. Reminds me of Hogans last few runs.

Undertaker vs. Edge isn't a 'money main-event'? So why did it close Wrestlemania 24? Does Vince realise that the UNDERTAKER is part of the match?

Sorry Vince, but you've made a mistake here.

Posted By: T.G. Corke (Registered)  on May 13, 2008 at 03:22 AM

Taker vs. Edge is way more of a money match than the done-to-death 4 years ago HHH vs. Orton. But I agree that Edge is better off as champion and Taker as challenger.

Posted By: DS (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 04:20 AM

Vince is spot on here. It isn't a "money" PPV main event BECAUSE it headlined Wrestlemania. People are less likely to pay to see a main event match at Judgement Day that they already paid to see in the main event on the biggest show of the year. Should be a good match that will do a lot to support the card.

Posted By: GoCart (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 04:43 AM

Also, the WWE Title hasn't been defended in the main event of a PPV since No Mercy on October 2nd when Randy orton defeated Triple H in a Last Man Standing match to win the WWE title. Triple H/Orton in a cage is where the money is at Judgement Day.

Posted By: GoCart (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 04:56 AM

"and the feeling is that Edge vs. Taker isn't a "money PPV match.""

While Undertaker vs. anyone definately isn't a PPV quality match, the guy does bring in cash.

Posted By: scott (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 05:24 AM

Silly to take belt off Taker and then automatically put him in title match anyway.

How about (usual WWE) - Triple Threat: Long declares that Batista deserves a shot due to screwy finish. Taker and Batista beat each other up and Edge wins belt.

"Also, the WWE Title hasn't been defended in the main event of a PPV since No

????

What about last month when the Fatal 4-Way headlined Backlash?

Hey, at least Vince didn't go to SD himself and beat Taker for the title. (Whew)

Posted By: fishstix68 (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 07:21 AM

Though the way they've gone about it sucks, I think it's the right call by Vince. Awesome as Taker is he doesn't really have the same momentum as he had a year ago before he got injured. It will be easier for them to build new main eventers (something they desperately need to do) with people chasing Edge rather than Taker. Nonetheless I'd have loved to have seen Taker vs. Edge in a ladder match or even HIAC.

Posted By: Evil Doink (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 08:26 AM

Taker is gonna get tired of not having the title more than a week and is gonna leave. It's not like he's at the end of his career like bret was. He goes to TNA and Vince will have a problem.

Posted By: kasehard (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 08:32 AM

Awesome to hear THORN is doing the vampire gimmick again. That was my favorite character to come out of the new ECW. We never got to see him vs. Taker, etc. Plus his turnbuckle stunner was pretty wicked.

Sorry but did I miss the meeting where it was decided that Batista was a top draw?

Instead of screwing around with stripping people of titles (and then letting them try to win them back again immediately...) how about, you know, actually developing characters a little - why not have Edge go off the deep end about his loss and turn him into a psycho (a la Kurt Angle) that you believe could actually hurt Taker - a few beatdowns and you're there with a money PPV match - HIAC perhaps?

Posted By: Bored Weegie (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 08:48 AM

So there goes Taker's "long title reign".... I can't argue about Edge's greatness, but come on.

Posted By: Guest#3049 (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 08:57 AM

So in the movie section you report Brad Pitt is getting the role of Thor and here you report that it's HHH.
Can his reach be that far?

Posted By: Thor (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 09:05 AM

Basically, this is completely f-ing retarded and is going to suck hard no matter what. If Undertaker wins the title back on Sunday, then that means they pulled this f-ing bull$h*t vacating the title angle for absolutely no reason, and made the title look like that much more of a joke because technically Undertaker would have a short title reign only to then regain the vacated title.

If Edge wins the title back, that is even more retarded. First off, if they were just going to give Edge the title back, why not just make it a normal match instead of all this vacated bull$h*t? Even worse, why the f*** even give the Undertaker the title at Wrestlemania only to have him lose it a few months later back to the same guy he beat for it? How about giving the Undertaker the long title reign he deserves for once instead of always jerking him around? It makes the title a huge joke when somebody has a title reign that consists of nothing but title defenses to one person until finally that person wins the title. Oh yeah, that's a great way to book the top championship of the brand. It's not for the best wrestler on the show, it's just for the guy who is most persistent and keeps getting title shots until they finally pull off a lucky win.

Either way, in my mind, it was retarded booking. I like Edge, but it would be a bad move to put the title back on him so soon. The biggest problem with WWE over the last several years has been things getting stale and WWE doing nothing but continuing to shove the same crap down our throats anyway. Edge has been champ a lot recently. As much as I like him, it is really time to give him a rest. Giving Undertaker a good, long reign could really help out the guy that finally beats him for the gold. It could be that much of even an extra boost. Not only did they win the World title, they beat Taker to do it.

Surely if Taker/Edge isnt a 'money PPV match' we can expect to see Edge win the title Sunday via shenanigans with Taker moving on to feud with the culprit. Im smelling a Batista heel turn leading in Batista/Taker part 458732.

Posted By: Bolabear (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 09:19 AM

Yes it headlined Mania..but it is completely different with Taker as champ and Edge challenging rather then how it was at Mania.

Posted By: Stephen (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 09:21 AM

Taker vs Edge isn't a money match, then why did it close WM24?

Simple answer, Taker vs. Edge was not a main selling point or a main focus of the build to WM24. It was a match that the hardcore fans were excited for, but as far as the casual buys that put Mania over a million buys, I would be willing to bet that Edge and Taker were not responsible for that. The reason it closed the show was to give the fans a feel good moment to close the show.
But i will agree with the nonsense of giving him the title just to strip it because you don't want him to be the champ.

maybe we shouldn't have put all of our big stars on RAW. Maybe we shouldn't have started ECW. Maybe we should have kept the brand split a split and given each brand focus and drive. Maybe it's time you step back from control and put some people in charge that can see the forest and the trees. Maybe you and pro wrestling parted a long time ago and you no longer "get it." Thank God TNA keeps shooting itself in the foot and you'll never have to realize any of these truths. Way to go Vinnie Mac.

HHH as Thor would be a good call in my opinion... in fact the actor that played him in the Hulk film looks like him

I like it. They can do edge and punk. Then punk and MVP OR Vickie and edge screw MVP and we get a triple threat with edge mvp and punk or just edge and mvp. Throw matt hardy or....we I can dream...shelton. Now that would be some quality stuff

I have to agree with Natedoggca, I think Edge is a better Champion. I really think he should've won at WM. I'm so tired of Taker's "winning streak" it's BORING... much much worse than Cena's wins over everyone for that two year stetch. Yes I know Egde beat him... but seriously Cena squished everyone... I am really sick of Taker...
Though I would like to see a Taker/HHH feud... that would kick some serious ass!

John's talking about The Incredible Hulk Returns, a follow up movie from the TV series. The one with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno. Thor was in that one. I thought he looked like a really big Chris Jericho. I dug the scene where he was drinking a whole six-pack out of a pitcher like it was a normal beer mug.

Having Edge as champion and seeing if undertaker can reclaim it is far greater then watching edge get raped for 9 minutes.

Undertaker is just to powerful of a character to have the belt.. only way he should have it is if another brock lesner comes into the wwe, then it would be a whole "im coming for you" storyline as he works his way up.

Undertaker doesn't need that belt, he sells regardless. He is easily one of the most important wrestlers.

Posted By: Cj (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 02:32 PM

If this is true then Vince is delusional. Taker-Edge have put on two great matches back to back and definetley the best World title matches since Taker/Tista's matches.

Posted By: Brian (Guest)  on May 13, 2008 at 04:50 PM

I'm probably the second person here happy to hear that Kevin Thorn is back to the vampire gimmick. Since Kane's got the ECW belt, there's a feud right there.

edge gets the belt again, wow, same stuff, this is getting old and boring

"Taker vs. Edge is way more of a money match than the done-to-death 4 years ago
HHH vs. Orton. But I agree that Edge is better off as champion and Taker as
challenger."

Apparently the only matches that can be over done & still be considered ok r Triple H matches. That's why that guy pisses me off. He isn't even as over as Taker but he's family now so it's ok. HHH can get more title reigns than anyone else in history but Taker can't even get a half decent title reign. That's life in general for ya though!

I would agree with Edge being better as Champion for SD! "currently" because frankly there aren't many challengers 2 Taker but my problem is that they made such a big deal of his long title reign & wasted 2 WM's over it for what? To take it off him a month later. U should have figured this out 6 months ago when u were planning the Taker & Edge match dipshit. If u wouldn't over do the talent on RAW & bring some of those guys over to SD! with Taker then maybe u wouldn't have the (No great challengers except Batista) problem. Which is a stupid reason to take the title from him anyway... That's not really Takers problem but whatever.. i'm sure he's just as happy to spend more time at home with the kids.

PEACE!

Don;t be a Marvel mark. Thor isn;t a money printing machine like Spiderman or XMen. HHH has as much a chance as all the other C-Listers and below being considered.

Oh, and Brad Pitt? Non!
