Various News: Cena vs. The Rock At The Box Office, ROH Sets Attendance Record
Posted by Ashish on 05.11.2008
Sunday news items...
- John Cena and The Rock will go head-to-head at the box office. WWE's next film, 12 Rounds, which stars John Cena, and Disney's Race to Witch Mountain, which stars The Rock, both open on March 12th, 2009.
- Ring of Honor set an all time attendance record at their show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York City last night, drawing somewhere in the range of 2100 fans. [PWInsider.com]
I would say the Rock would win, but you never know.

Wow! A bona-fide box office tustle between a current WWE mainstay and a former WWE legend! It'll be quite the race to see which superstar's movie will be crappier!

Sad that this is the closest thing we'll see to them actually battling in the ring.

Let the speculation commence for Rock-Cena at WM 25

I want to post this first because I know people will jump in here and wish death to Cena without giving any real reason for it. I'll just say it's more than obvious that Rocks film will win this 'battle at the box office'. Not because Cena's a crap actor because he's not, despite what alot of people say, Cena, like alot of sports entertainers is a damn good actor. Rock however, is on the verge of being a top star right now, based on his last hit alone and with a company like Disney pushing the film its a no contest. WWE will slam it down our throats every chance, but it wont be enough.
I dont care about box office battles. My dream match is to see a heel Cena with full WWE backing (ala Triple H 2000) against a face Rock. The promos would be enough to make the match great.

Gee, I wonder which movie will win.

A kids movie will win out over a crappy WWE films movie anyday

More traditional Wrestling fans will go see 12 rounds because It's an action movie as opposed to a Disney Family Movie, and Wrestling fans are more into action. However because It's got the Disney Marketing machine behind it Witch Mountain will win.

Has anyone actually seen witch mountain? It's not exactly Cinderella or Toy Story. It's 70s Disney, not a good time for them. I would be more intrested in what opens along side these two.

This could be a great prelude and build up to a Mega match at Backlash or Judgement Day. I hope Rocks come's back for it.

You guys are fogetting that the people who watched the original Witch Mountain movies are now the grown-ups taking their kids to movies.
Oh, and congrats to ROH. Too bad I have no way of watching you on DirecTV.

I thought WWE decided to go the straight to dvd route now, I guess I thought wrong.

This isn't really Cena vs. Rock. This is WWE Films vs. Disney, and Disney is going to win that war every single time.
Also, if anything of note is opening that weekend, then they'll both lose (although Witch Mountain may over time do as well as The Game Plan).

Hmmm, a WWE produced film starring WWE star John Cena, or a Disney produced film starring big name hollywood actor The Rock...I wonder which one will outperform the other at the box office. I'll be on the edge of my seat 'til March of next year.

Witch Mountain, what an odd choice for Disney to re-release, I couldn't stand that show as a kid in the pre-cable days. I remeber it used to come on the Disney Saturday movie all-time. They must be pumping on a dry-well.

It'll be March. What the hell "of note" opens in March?

Congrats to ROH. Keep on growing!

Nobody will see 12 Rounds because it's a wrestling movie, plain and simple. If No Country for Old Men had been produced by WWE, it would have bombed because of that stigma behind it. 12 Rounds has no chance of being good though, it's just a remake of The Marine.
The Marine = A marine has to rescue his girlfriend from criminals
12 Rounds = A detective has to rescue his girlfriend from criminals
Race to Witch Mountain is probably gonna suck too, but it's a kid's movie with an established actor, so it'll make more money

What of note opens in March?
Last week in Feb., month of March, and first week of April 2008:
Semi-Pro
10,000 B.C.
Horton Hears A Who
Meet the Browns
21
Nim's Island
Superhero Movie
Drillbit Taylor
All of those movies did better than the Marine at the box office, and some of them came close to if not passed The Game Plan.

I thought that WWE was going to do straight to video for a while.

"I think Cena would won because lot people like white person than black."
Fucking brilliant.
Isn't 12 Rounds being directed by Renny Harlin? A WWE Film with him directing could be all kinds of stupid fun.
Personally, I'm still waiting for See No Evil 2. The first one was a near classic.

the rock must win!

Hail to Cena! Lot people like Cena since his best film The Marine, in his movie is most view than any The Rock people. I have seen The Rock try to be same Stone Cold, which make The Rock success. The Rock want to be white but can't be, that why Michael Jackson turn white because they know white is most popular color skin than any. if any 411mania post comment user, please say "I'm white" so you be part with my group "K.K.K"

I'm so sick of these fake idiots. We have enough real idiots around here like Darth Mortis and T.G. Corke, we don't need fake ones like KKK and Justin Crediblepac.
Oh, and Rock's movie wins by at least 50 million the first weekend. Actually, I'd like to see it bomb so he might consider crawling back to wrestling, because I might be his biggest fan here and I've never seen one of his shitty movies.

Rock wins big time. Kids movies are always big money. Since kids can't get to the movie without at adult basically once you sell one ticket, you've sold atleast two, if not more. I would love to see The Rock in more action movies, but the man has definately been making smart financial moves, and being in good with Disney is the place to be. I predict you will see Dwayne in Pirates 4...

That's a bit dissapointing that Cena's movie is coming out that late. Not because I am looking forward to his film, but because that means likely he will still be a face by then. I was hoping for a Hulk Hoganesque heel turn at Summerslam. How about a new Evolution with HHH, Batista, Orton, and Cena

I second MP on the Rock coming back. If only to walk up to Cena and say in his mocking singing voice, "Ice Ice Baby."
