Penny Banner Passes Away

Legendary female wrestler passes on...
The following was sent out today by the Cauliflower Alley Club.
The CAC has received word that Penny Banner passed away last night, peacefully in her sleep, at her daughter's home in North Carolina.
Penny was one of the most decorated women in the history of professional wrestling. Her accolades have included being the first recipient of the CAC's Art Abrams Lifetime Achievement Award, being inducted into the Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame in New York and she will be the first woman inducted to the George Tragos/Lou Thesz Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame in Waterloo in 2008.
Penny served on the Board of Directors of the Cauliflower Alley Club for many years and worked tirelessly to ensure that all remembered the women of our sport.
Penny will always have a special place in my heart. We shared some wonderful emails and wonderful times in Las Vegas. My thoughts and prayers go out to Wendi and the Banner family.

Thats truly a sad day, and not one comment about it showing up yet which is a shame.
Penny was popular when you didn`t have talentless bimbos who sucked their way onto wrestling TV, and we were better for it.

I've never heard of her. Maybe that explains why there aren't any comments.
RIP Penny Banner.

For any of you younger wrestling fans, Penny Banner should also be given credit for institutionalizing Women's Wrestling. From what little I know of her, she was sort of the Ric Flair Equivalent to Hulk Hogan when comparing any other worker to the Fabulous Moolah. She also made an appearance at WCW Slamboree 94. Quitew a good looking woman to boot.
Rest in Peace to another legend who leaves us well before their time.

I had the pleasure of meeting Penny several times in the '70's when she would travel with Johnny Weaver in the old Mid-Atlantic. They had a troubled marriage but she and he were always good to the fans.
It's a shame that women's wrestling has been degraded to the point that it has. Vince McSatan has destroyed everything good about wrestling and turned it into The Vince and HHH show.
RIP Penny. I hope you're having five star matches with Moolah in Heaven.

Penny was such a fine lady. I knew her pretty well, we were pals as such, and her loss is a hard one to take. Such a fine lady, I feel this loss very strongly. My thoughts go out to her family and friends, and fans.

A sad piece of news indeed. I knew Penny's bright carreer from videos and propics.
May her soul rest in peace.
