Various News: RAW Time-Shifted, American Gladiators Rating, Storm Q&A
Posted by Ashish on 05.13.2008
More Tuesday news...
- The first and second hour of RAW last week were the second and third most time-shifted programs in the cable top 20. The first hour was shifted 7.3% and the second hour 7.0%. The Hills was #1 with 33%. [WrestlingObserver.com]
- American Gladiators last night did a 2.9 fast national rating which is not good and may put the future of the show in question. [WrestlingObserver.com]
Damn thats a shame for American Gladiators. I really hope they dont cancel the show mid season

okay... is that good or bad for raw?
Posted By: Guest#5297 (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 03:59 PM
I don't know how much it will factor in but a fair number of stations in the New York / Buffalo Region didn't Air Abc/Nbc/Cbs shows on time, or were joined just simply in progress due to a hostage situation.
i know it wouldn't explain a 2.9 but it could have been a 3.4 had it not been for that. lol..
The nelsons rating system is fundamentally flawed anyways.. i don't even know why they use it anymore.

Two out of the top three-time shifts... ooooh. Um, what's a time-shift?

Can you please stop posting updates with Lance Storm. I think by far Lance Storm is one of the biggest pricks in wrestling. He did one spot show for ROH in chicago some years back, and the thing is with that place the only bathroom in their you have to piss next to the fans. Well he basically ran to the bathroom and ran back out. Almost knocking over 2 little kids on the way back out. He stopped for about two seconds and then when a little kid asked for his autograph he said running away" Sorry I cant right now, see me later after the show." After the show meant, pay me 20 bucks and you can get my autograph. Fuck him and his no carisma having ass.

Im sure going up against the first half of Raw didnt help American Gladiators also.
Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:10 PM
so.......what does that mean that they were shifted??
Posted By: anonymous (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:23 PM
Don't get antsy, NBC! Gladiator's is great!
Actually, it'd be better if they'd cut out a little bit of the contender backstory, the constant airing of the same clip over and over again (like the one legged guy's comment about playing football for the first time), and going to an event only to cut to commercial.

Yeah what does the whole "shifted" mean anyway?
Posted By: The GT Shaman (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:29 PM
What the hell is Time shifted?
Posted By: Toddo (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:30 PM
Amazing how all these people on the Internet can't figure out how to use Wikipedia. Time-shifting basically means that people recording it to watch later either on VCR, TiVo or whatever.
And Chris, Lance did a show down here a few months ago and he was an awesome guy so maybe you just have a grudge against him for some reason.
Posted By: MC42 (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:40 PM
I'm not a tv expert, but I think a time-shift is when people keep changing the channel throughout the program

CANCEL AMERICAN GLADIATORS NOW!! That show is awful. It used to be a competition, now its... Well looks like something that should be on LifeTime network. They WNBA'd all the events and the only good thing is seeing Crush beat them all up. Id rather see her do it in a cage though.
Posted By: Champ (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:43 PM
I believe that the last episode of Gladiators last season did a rating of 4.5 or something like that so yeah, its a HUGE drop so im guessing the Hostage situation had something to do with it.
Posted By: natedoggcata (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:55 PM
Mc42. No grudge here at all. I just dont think you should knock little kids out of the way so you dont have to sign an autograph so you can get paid later. People came to see him. He was the big draw. He cant give a little one an autograph? I hold no grudge.
Posted By: Chris (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 04:56 PM
Chris, you don't want Lance Storm's blog posts to be advertised any longer on a wrestling website because you saw him once do something that you feel is rude. Um, that's pretty much a textbook example of a grudge.

FYI, Wikipedia is not a great source of information, when it can be changed and/or vandalized at the drop of a hat. I can go in right now to the Time Shifting entry and change the info to something totally incorrect. Hence, why I ask what timeshifting is. Besides, I don't think 411 wants us to leave their site to figure out a term that we read on it. That would be poor business.

Big Daddy Matt(Dont know why I have to type that shit in)
For some reason Im feeling like this "wrestling website" which it isnt just that anymore, is getting paid per post it puts up. Lance Storm "retired" around 3 or 4 years ago. Yet for some reason people feel the need to go to Lance for questions. I read his posts at first, then it started to get out of hand. Yes Lance I understand ECW sucks now WWE is not really entertaining. TNA is dropping the ball. Rinse repeat over and over again. That not news. Thats just giving a dog another day in the spotlight. I dont need to see it anymore, and I dont reward bad dogs, with treats. Lance Storm had no entertainment value. If he came out of anywhere else except Canada he would have been gone by now, but because he is from Canada, people still regard him highly. I have no idea why. I was just saying you dont need to continue to post, Lance Storm has a new blog or whatever, because you are just giving a jobber(which he should have been) more limelight. WTF is Barry Horriwitz doing now. He was more interesting than Mr If I can be serious for a minute.
Posted By: Chris (Guest) on May 13, 2008 at 06:21 PM
"If I could just be serious for a minute" was an awesome gimmick, don't disrepect lance storm!!! Remember when he was a triple-champion in WCW, and renamed all the belts? That shit was gold right there bro, even if WCW did then fuck it up by having him fued with "General Rection" (Hugh Morris... eugh....) for about several years. And of course, who can forget the Impact Players?? Says it all about Paul Heyman's booking genius that he was even able to make Justin Credible look like a genuine threat!!

They need to switch Gladiators to a new night. Seriously, how stacked is Monday night with top notch shows? The comedy block on CBS and House, plus Gladiators all running in the same time slot? Whoever at NBC decided that was a good idea is a moron.
Move it to Tuesday. The only thing in their target demographic that is on is ECW and nobody watches it anyway.

Time-Shifted is when a program is recorded via VCR, Tivo or DVR. This takes away from a rating because the TV may be off but the program will still record.
A note to the unwise: TNA iMPACT! also has a small percentage of time-shifted programming which means that the rating they get every week is actually higher than reported

Lance Storm was in the business for over a decade and operates a training facility. He seems to have the respect of his peers, and was always a solid performer. Why wouldn't wrestling fans be interested in what he has to say? Because he didn't give some kind an autograph once?

American Gladiators is one of those shows that is great on either Friday or the Weekends. Its just an overall FUN show. It wont garner the same ratings as shows in prime time like CSI, Lost, 24, Raw, or any of those other shows. It would be great in a time slot with other shows like Cops, AMW, Simpsons, Americas Funniest Home Videos, or any of those other weekend shows. AG is gonna get KILLED on Monday nights, if it continues. The show is an hour and a half long and it will LOSE viewers once Raw starts. Also you gonna think about the Impact that re runs of Law and Order SVU has on the show. Im sure most people would like to watch LAO as a lead in to raw

Actually, only RAW is DVR'd enough to have its rating affected. Impact, ECW, and SD! are not.

I didnt even know Gladiators was on. Maybe I was not the only one

Yep just made myself read the Q and A he had. Hey Lance what was it like to be 4th in the immunity battle royal 10 years ago. Oh it was great but Test won out. Please stop the burning which is Lance Storm blogs.

time shifting is when a show is recorded and watched at another time.

I have seen some of you asking the word that you don't know what it mean which is obviously your a low function. Let me give you some advice.... I think you need going back to school, it all I'm say.
Posted By: COLLEGE TEACHER (Guest) on May 14, 2008 at 12:04 AM
I'll go to school learn. I think you all should join with me.
Posted By: Student (Guest) on May 14, 2008 at 12:06 AM
I may be going out on a limb here by saying this but I've always wanted to know, how do they calculate these time shifts anyway. I mean, can they really know if a household records a program on DVR or not?
Posted By: The GT Shaman (Guest) on May 14, 2008 at 01:18 AM
I've met Storm twice and both times he was cool as shit, just willing to talk about the business and what not. He doesn't like dumbass fans, though, so if you're a straight mark, steer clear of Mr. Storm...his lack of charisma may affect your unborn children.

me bizzarro agree with college teacher. me think me should go back to school

"I mean, can they really know if
a household records a program on DVR or not?"
Tivo keeps track of what is recorded and downloaded and will periodically release the information. They claim that they don't keep personally identifiable records but I have my doubts. I suspect cable companies do the same thing.

When Gladiators debuted, it was during the strike when they didn't have as much competition. Now, between Dancing with the Stars, House, and CBS' comedies, they had a lot to go up against (and I'm sure that the fact there were also playoff games on hurt). Let's see what happens in a couple of weeks when they don't have as much competition.

Time-shifting is also an independent promotion / service from a cable provider in ontario..
if you sign up for "Time-shifting" you get the alternate network feeds from other time zones.
so if i miss American Gladiators at 8pm here.. i just have to wait until 8pm pacific (11pm eastern) and i can watch it then even with out the use of a pvr / dvr / tivo / vcr / torrent stream / monkeys drawing it with there excrement/ drunk neighbors reenacting it for beer and glory.
