well i guess this explains the firing angle

I demand a Jeff Hardy vs William Regal feud

- Syringe on a pole match
- Ladder match for a "get out of jail free" card for their next violation.
- A "Loser has to pee in a cup 3 times a week for a full year" match
- A winner "gets not drug tests for 1 year" match

The possibilities are almost endless

On the bright side, this does show that the WWE is at least semi-serious about enforcing their policies. They suspended Jeff Hardy when he was on a roll, about to win MITB, and now they suspend Regal when he was just getting the push of his career.

Now we'll really know just how serious they are if any of the main event players get the suspension (Edge, Batista, HHH, Cena).

God damn it!
I was just starting to enjoy Evil Regal and he has to go and fuck it up.

Way to go chumpzilla!

And the best of it is, Regal won't really get punished! EVERYONE WINS! Especially me.

Brett, this is not TNA.

Posted By: Joe (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 10:58 AM

he'll come back in august and sneak attack kennedy and reignite their feud.

Hey, Brett the'yre not in TNA.

Posted By: Mr1700 (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:02 AM

Well they have done enough TNA-esque things recently to make the leap from that to this not too hard.

Posted By: Brett (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:05 AM

Man, I really enjoying the evil Regal angle. It's one of the few fresh things we've seen on Raw in a while.

Hardy, Hayes, Regal, who's next - Vince?

Posted By: L'Mago (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:06 AM

Damn. I was all about a possible William Regal WWE Championship feud with Triple H and/or John Cena. Poor limey bastard can't keep off the junk.

I think the jury's still out on the lasting ramifications of the whole Wellness thing, though. Hardy got suspended and when he came back, he picked up not much worse off than when he left. Time will tell if there'll be any post-suspension punishment. As for Regal...he'd better hope Vince sees something in him, otherwise he'll be dressing in drag again very soon.

Regal is a disgrace.

i think CM Punk is sabotaging people backstage.

hardy lost out on MITB so punk was put into place.

so techiniclly if this happend any sooner punk wouldve been voted king of the ring aswell.

all hail King money in the bank!

never thought I would say this like but it just goes to show it does actually pay to be straight-edge...

.. well that or real high up in the world.

Regal doesn't even wrestle that much anymore, what the FUCK does he think he is doing? What a complete tool - Worse than Jeff Hardy. The guy was given the PUSH of all PUSHES and then it goes right down the drain. When he comes back, get ready for the Vince McMahon Kiss My Ass Club part II!!!

Posted By: No sorrow for the guy. (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:18 AM

I'm sure you were hoping you were wrong when you said it, but good call Larry when you assumed this in your column. It's a damn shame. Hopefully he goes through rehab during his 60 days off.

Hayes was not suspended due to the drug policy.
He was suspended because he was not PC and said he was more of a "N" than Mark Henrey.

Posted By: Jim (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:25 AM

Now this one upsets me far more than the Jeff Hardy one. Regal had everything going for him...and he pissed it away...no remorse.

Posted By: Guest#1858 (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:25 AM

Wow, just wow! I was just about to blame booking for ending the King Angle so quickly (they do have a bad rep you know)and all along it was Mr. Regal's fault. Honestly I was thinking to myself last night, "Regal looks in very good shape". Who knew. I hope he recovers alright cuz he is quite enjoyable.

Jesus Christ any time he gets a push (and this was a MAJOR one) her either gets injured or high. Sad to see.

@No sorrow for the guy: He's already in the Kiss my ass club.

Regal is an addict from way back, got to the point where he almost died, and now he pulls this.
If it's drugs: he should have learned from the first time he almost died.
If it's steroids: First class idiot due to the damage his heart suffered.
Regal is well liked by both McMahon and HHH amongst others so I'm sure he'll be fine on his return, but I think it's pretty clear he needs help quickly! For the record, Regal has always been awesome, from facial expressions to mike work and particularly his in-ring style. Hope he returns better than ever.

This makes me a saad panda :(

Being English I have been rooting for Regal since forever and even more so with his KotR/GM push.

Addiction is a cruel thing...I know because I have a daily addiction to hookers and beer.

Here is hoping when he comes back he'll get the Jeff Hardy treatment and put more or less back where he was...either that or he'll be TNA champ by the end of the year!

Posted By: Armiatge Shanks (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 11:30 AM

This could be very well tied to him becoming more of an active wrestler. He was trying to get in shape and took a short cut. That - or since he has been more active, he needed some help recovering from the wear and tear and took some illegal drugs to help him relax.

Either way - its a disappointment that these guys cannot stay clean. But I am also in agreement that I am waiting for one of the main event guys to go down. But if that does happen, I will bet it will be kept hush hush in the form of "Randy's taking time off to be with his family", or disguising an injury angle (torn pec muscle indeed).

Dear WWE performers,

If you are going to take medications, please, PLEASE make sure you have a valid prescription for the pill you decide to pop.

Signed,
The Fans.

In all seriousness, the problem most likely stems from him popping positive for something that is allowed with a legit script, but he was unable to produce it. With his past, I don't exactly see Regal snorting lines of blow of the bodies of Mickie James and Melina in some cheap-ass "No-tell Motel" room. (Although that thought, minus the coke, does get me all worked up. Dear God, could you imagine doing body shots off of those girls? *shivers*)

Posted By: hg dragon (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 12:03 PM

The thing is it was probably steroids or something similar. He probably thought that they were needed to keep him going with his push. He needed something to keep him performing harder, better and faster. It makes sense. Simple psychology. I doubt it was a recreational drug.

Posted By: Joe (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 12:09 PM

Wow even though my gut told me that this is what the reason was and because some mentioned last night I just hoped it wasn't true.

Called when they announced the match...just....fuck.

The thing I find a little weird is that they don't say what kind of violation. Is it Steroids? Pills? Did Jeffykins and Regal-san smoke the reefer together and get suspended separately? Is Zitsky secretly pissing in their cups? Who the hell knows. All I know is Regal, like Hardy before him, killed the biggest push of his career cause of drugs.

You know, Vince'll come around to CM Punk: Straight Edge Champion soon enough...at least he would never have to worry about him getting suspended due to Wellness violations...just dickhole violations.

jesus after reading his book about overcoming addiction and drug abuse I can't believe this shit is happening to him again. I just wonder what the drug he got busted on was? i've always loved Regal and was really hoping he was going to be HHH's next heel challenger.

this sucks. I expected it from Hardy (still do) but I really thought Regal had learned

Posted By: divine comedy (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 12:11 PM

Idiot. He's getting probably his biggest push ever and then he goes and fails a drug test.

WWE have been really unlucky in the last year with suspensions..

Oh come on! What is with all these guys blowing their big chance lately? It seems like everybody is getting the push of their lives only to then blow it in one way or another. I really like Regal and was happy to see him finally getting something of a push. I am so p*$$ed that he would screw that up, and now we will never get to see where it is going. I just hope he can get the help he so obviously needs. I am getting so sick of guys screwing themselves over, though. I imagine we won't be about to see him ever get any kind of push again any time soon.

" think the jury's still out on the lasting ramifications of the whole Wellness
thing, though. Hardy got suspended and when he came back, he picked up not much
worse off than when he left."

Umm... how so. He's only had, like, three matches so far. Granted, he beat Umaga and MVP, but neither of them are exactly main eventers right now. It is definitely too soon to tell, but if they keep using him how they have been since his return, I would definitely NOT call that him coming back to pretty much where he was. Before he left he was beating Triple H clean, damn near beating Orton for the WWE title, and largely believed to be winning the Money in the Bank. Plus, many thought he was sure to win one of the World titles soon.

As of right now, he's kind of just there, in the sort of upper midcard. I'm not saying I expect them to thrust him right back into the main event (in fact, I wouldn't want them to) I'm just saying he certainly is worse off for having been suspended.

This is horribly disappointing. William Regal is a veteran, and he should know better. There is no excuse for this.

What the fuck are they waiting for.

What a better time to turn CM Punk heel.

Posted By: ECWFan (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 12:29 PM

Very sad, though at least they are enforcing the drug policy. Regal is one of Triple H's real life friends, so you'd think he might be "taken care of". I'm glad they are handling this drug nonsense in a legit manner. Nothing funny or humorous about this.

What is a bit funny though is the person who said that a main eventer would be given the same treatment. Most would, but Triple H? Highly doubt it. I think he'd be smarter than to do something stupid, but he's the bosses son in law. He's not going to get offtime for behavior even if he were to mess up.

Posted By: Unknown1 (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 12:40 PM

Addicts relapse. Sometimes they relapse once, sometimes more. Sometimes they relapse years after they've gotten clean. Becoming sober is not an easy and automatic process.

I hope he uses this time to get back on the right path.

Damn it Regal...if anyone heard Between the Ropes a couple of weeks ago...Regal as a Heel WWE championship would of been awesome...damn it regal... you could of finally made it to the championship that WCW didnt want to put on you....

Lets see if the writers of this website give Regal the same treatment they gave Jeff Hardy

I somehow doubt it

I still find it suspect that these guys get suspended right at the beginning of their massive pushes. It's almost like they're set up to fail.

Or, maybe I just enjoy beleiving in conspiracies.

High enough up the card for the suspension to make an impact, not high enough to be champion. Weird, eh? Use the known users so it doesn't sound as odd.

Makes ya think, eh?

He should know better than that, really, I mean he's been wrestling since he was a teenager

Posted By: William (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:04 PM

We can all sit here and call guys like Regal and Hardy idiots, but none of us have any idea what the life of a wrestler is like. We may think we have an understanding, but none of us know the strain, physically and psychologically, it takes on a person.

Also, if he failed a drug test, that test could have been taken anywhere between 1 month and 4 months ago, as it takes a while for them to get the results back. He could have "failed" this test even before his push. And by failed it could mean he had a substance in his body that he couldn't provide the prescription for, or had more in his body that the perscription's perscribed does. He also could have bought the drugs from an illegal source.

I'm not going to sit here and judge these guys, because they travel almost non-stop, and go out there a couple times a week and risk their health, mental well-being and their relationships, so I can be entertained for 2-5 hours a week. I hope that if Regal needs help, he gets it, and learned his lesson, so that he is able to continue the career that he obviously loves.

After it happen thats the only thing I could think of That he got caught again. He was riding on a high note and now lets hope he learned he should have learned the first time But I guess Not!!!!!

I cant blame him he didnt want to come back like JBL with the man boobs

Posted By: BRING THE PAIN (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:09 PM

I think this speaks to a larger problem of the intense WWE schedule. It's as if they have to constantly get on the drugs so they can be able to perform for long stretches of time. Perhaps that's why Regal went back on the drugs, to help him prepare for the workload.

That said, it's good to see the WWE sticking to their policy and not laying off when two guys were getting the pushes of a lifetime.

Much like Jeff Hardy is still getting pushed upon his return, I suspect the same will happen to Regal when he returns.

Posted By: Orlando (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:09 PM

Who will this affect more, Regal or Kennedy?

Posted By: Eddie (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:21 PM

Regal better watch out, I think I saw Matt Hardy heading around his house with a can of gasoline and some matches....

Posted By: Fenris (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:37 PM

As GM couldn't he just have waived his punishment? (yes I'm joking) He has looked suspiciously fit since his return to action, guess we know why. But I still say he was never going to get a serious push and this just saves him from getting fed to Trippy later.

Posted By: Shockmaster (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 01:46 PM

@mstrong73

~almost- surely, Randy Orton..

lol.. Piper if they started counting years ago..

..Would bookers two strikes be erased if he ever went back to wwe ? do strikes ever get waved off after a specific amount of time or if you quit for 2 years and come back ?
hmmm..

Curses. I was really enjoying Regal on Raw at the moment. Hope he comes back clean and gets back on track to doing what he does best, being a kick ass wrestler with excellent mic work. If only they could have put somebody who isn't completly rubbish over him on his way out.
Every cloud has a silver lining though since Kennedy has no one to feud with now hopefully we'll see a lot less of him on TV. Please Vince make that so.

"Besides Regal and Hardy who else has two strikes?"

Chavo Guerrero is the only other official person that has 2 wellness violations, and was the first to receive 2 wellness violations not Jeff Hardy as this website seems to believe.

Also theirs a question mark over whether Randy Orton has 2 violations, he has been suspended at least 3 times and had one supension mysteriously disapear.

Posted By: Wellness (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 02:31 PM

Fuck-a-doodle-doo! I really do like Regal, but this is getting ridiculous. You'd think he'd at least learn from Jeff Hardy's mistake...and his own as well.

"Also theirs a question mark over whether Randy Orton has 2 violations, he has been suspended at least 3 times and had one supension mysteriously disapear."

Randy Orton was suspended for 60 days in April 2006 right after WM 22 for behavior reasons.

He has one Wellness strike aganist him from summer 2006 (he was still allowed on TV before the policy changed to have violators removed from TV for the entire length of his/her suspension).

From Randle's column yesterday:

"Actually, it's been a horribly slow week for news, I presume because WWE has been too busy putting on PPVs and doing foreign tours for anyone to do anything stupid. Of course, five minutes after I post this, they'll probably fire Jeff Hardy for smoking crack and trashing a hotel room or something. Why can't anyone screw up their wrestling career in some horrible public fashion on a Saturday?

No, I don't really want that. Moving on."

I feel for ya, dude. Although it does seem like this shit usually tends to go down on Mondays. CONSPIRACY!~

I love Regal (Matthews), but he ought to be ashamed of himself. Vince has been very good to him. He's helped him with his demons, given him a HUGE push, and he blows it. Very sad. His character was REALLY working well too.

Posted By: Sam (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 03:50 PM

And think about this...ironic isn't it that last week Regal interrupted Jeff Hardy's comeback speech & said he had to be "punished for his sins"...flash forward 1 week later and what do you know? He gets suspended! Yes I agree, I want to see if Vince will conveniently look the other way to gloss over any of the top/upper mid level guys (HHH, Cena, Undertaker, JBL, Chris Jericho, Edge, Kane, MVP, Orton...you get the idea) should they fail a Drug Test.

"Damn people relax, Regal made a fucking mistake, lets just hope he learns from

Sure he will. Just like the last time. Or all those time in WCW. The guy is a messed up. WWE can never push him again. Hopefully he retires. Hardy will implode on them again too. Makes Vince and WWE look like a bunch of fools.

Regal vs. Hardy vs. Sandman coming to an indy near you!

wwe is cracking down on their policy but come on now, does anyone really think that if triple h failed a test, that it would be publicized and he'd be suspended? Anyways, it's sad to see that regal has to go for a long time, he's a great wrestler but he broke the law. No telling what the reason, but that schedule those guys wrestle on is strenuous

man, i love the assholes who just assume that HHH Batista and Cena are juiced up simply because they have the physiques of bodybuilding enthuists...oh...right...

oh, yea...did anyone consider the fact that Regal is an alcoholic and that Wellness doesn't always mean 'drugs'?

and who the hell is CM Punk?

So, the WWE won't be selling the new William Regal T-Shirt he was wearing backstage on Raw?

Posted By: fredtheimpaler (Guest)  on May 20, 2008 at 06:57 PM

Man, this is just sad. William Regal has always been one of my favorite wrestlers and for this to happen, its just sad.

At first, I thought "what the heck" with Regal getting fired and I was very angry that the WWE would end his push and basically embarrass him on live TV. Then I saw this and now I know why.

Regal, what is wrong with you? I got your book where you talked all about getting on drugs and drinking and almost dying and I thought you had changed your life around. Now your back to where you were 8 years ago. As a loyal "American" fan I feel somewhat embarrassed to say I am a fan of yours but I also feel sad for you cause you deserve to be respected and treated better than you were on RAW.

Now I have to rely on Finlay and DH Smith as my favorites in the WWE right now. I just hope this isn't the last we've seen of William Regal but I'm afraid because he's nowhere near as popular as Jeff Hardy, that we may see the last of William Regal. I hope I'm wrong, but the WWE has no reason to bring him back. He had his shot and blew it.

Get some help Regal. I'm still a fan of yours but man, you really disappointed me.

Wellness:

I think Chris Masters had two strikes before he was fired (I think they reserve the right to fire a guy even before the third strike).

So i guess WWE is creating BS storylines to save face on failed Drug program reinforcement !

Sorry but suspending them for 2 to 3 months at a time is not getting them help or stopping the drug abuse !!!

WWE program is an EPIC FAIL !! By allowing this to continue they not only look like a Joke to their peers but to the fans !

Here you know what would really help? Calling him an idiot. Yep good work.

I thought Masters was just released instead of receiving the second violation and suspension

Regal you fuking wanker! That WWE heavyweight championship was in your future. We all know that you don't do steroids But you do look like you can go for 2 or 3 days on that Peruvian marching powder. What bullocks!

What's the deal with these guys screwing up their pushes with their drug ussage? Kennedy = lost the push that would have resulted from being revealed as Vince's "son".
Jeff Hardy - Lost the push he was sure to get post-Wrestlemania.
William Regal - Lost the push resulting from winning King of the Ring (Hey, the KOTR curse lives again!)

LOL Brett!

This news really sucks. Not only is Regal a great on screen character but he has been down that dark road before and it has almost cost him his life, family and career and its heartbreaking to see this about someone like him who has genuinely tried to get away from it all.

Sadly, as soon as I heard about the match I figured. He gave hints though. Hence the line "Sometimes you have to take a step back to go two steps forward" or something along those lines. That might have been shoot-ish.

STUPID move regal... really STUPID...

your fans were looking forward to your push, but alas you robbed them of that.

i commend wwe for really enforcing their wellness policy. i just hope they really weed out ALL of the abusers

Get well Regal!

World Wide Junky. It's all wrong! They need to get people off this to start with! Even more so before they start pushing them to hell! What you've really been watching on TV is a druggy for the past weeks.

In the future, WWE should test anyone before they start a big push.
And just because he doesn't look like Batista, doesn't mean he isn't on the juice. Hell maybe he took some over the counter prohormone. Maybe it's pain killers, he had problems with them in the past. It's a good things he is best buds with HHH, maybe in 60 days he will just come back and beat Umaga and MVP too.

damn it. Anyone taht has read Regal's book has got to be depressed by this news. I really hoped hoped he would stay clean whether it was drugs or roids. Plus now we screwed out of the Regal vs Kennedy matches that seemed to be coming! Crap!

He didnt get "fired" its just an angle he will return after the suspension just like Jeff hardy

Posted By: JMBarmes (Guest)  on May 21, 2008 at 12:36 PM

JR had a point in his blog though about this. It could be a supplement he was taking contained a banned substance. It happens in every sport, why not with WWE Wellness?

As much as the performers are to blame for taking anything against the rules, I also have to agree with those who say the schedule is just ridiculous. Wrestlers in TNA, ROH, etc generally can perform massively dangerous moves but don't get injured as they get to practice, hit the move, and take time off to recuperate. WWE gives their guys the least recuperation of any major league wrestling I know of. I am not excusing it, but I think there should be a call for a reduced work schedule for the wrestlers so they can heal properly and not need to pop pills to feel able to wrestle. As a fan of Regal's for a long time I'm sorry to hear this news but hell, he deserved the suspension if he was dumb enough to do it again. Sadly while Hardy will get pushed to the moon again Regal may just end up fired.
