Cue the comments about his finishing move "The Bourne Ultimatum"
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:26 PM
Clearly Matt Sydal didnt want to sign his name to WWE.
His new name is cool and works for him!
Posted By: Spike (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:27 PM
"Evan Bourne"?
What's wrong with letting him work under his normal name?
Posted By: Bman (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:34 PM
Did they decide to change the name because Tony Chimmel couldn't pronounce his name properly?
Posted By: Dan (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:35 PM
Why the same change? They don't sound one bit alike.
Posted By: William (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:39 PM
Why??? What was wrong with Matt Sydal??
Posted By: Quacker (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:47 PM
Evan Bourne eh? So either his gimmick will be as a spy or as the son of Doink the Clown.
Posted By: Stanley (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:51 PM
I understand the E wanting to have the copyright to his name in case he becomes huge. They've tended to do this for the last 20+ years. But they come up with shitty names. If they are going with the Bourne name, he better be a bad ass, but I highly doubt he'll get to show his stuff. Pity.
Posted By: Angry Bear (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:52 PM
Why give a guy with an established Identity and plenty of cred a New name. New people won't care and Smarks will be annoyed at vince. besides he's already jobbed on national TV as Sydal, I doubt a name change will matter that much.
Warning, they must be giving him a really stupid gimmick.
I'm not an ROHbot and I'm upset with vince about this. When Flair showed up to WWE, he stayed Ric Flair, when RVD came he was still RVD. Vince should understand we'll be happy to see Sydal, unless it's a crazy career threatening gimmick, a name change is not nessacary.
Posted By: Davis (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 03:56 PM
I hate name changes just so WWE can own the name, and they often suck, but they do have a lot of Matt's on the roster these days. sounds like a pretty generic but inoffensive face name, so whatever

Jason and Evan Bourne = The Bourne Supremacy !! what a great name for a tag team... EPIC WIN!!!!!
Tna management = EPIC FAIL
ABYSS and monstersball = EPIC FAIL
Samoa Fat Joe = EPIC FAIL
TNA X DIVISION = EPIC FAIL

When is WWE gonna release the match listing for the mythical Best of Starrcade DVD.

Evan Bourne = Many Buys
Posted By: Amp (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 04:27 PM
I hate how the WWE can't have guys with the same name on the roster. It goes back to Shane Helms becoming Gregory, since obviously we aren't smart enough to differentiate him from Shane O'Mac. I really hate the WWE sometimes.

Could you be a little less creative Tito?
Posted By: BL4L (Registered) on June 08, 2008 at 05:03 PM
Wait, why is he performing under a different name? Wasn't he on ECW this past Tuesday wrestling under the name Matt Sydal?
Posted By: Bigtrevor (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:06 PM
Jesus Christ they changed his name, they didn't castrate him.
Posted By: Guest#4908 (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:12 PM
I hope all you people bitching about this name change know that the one who decided this is probably Matt. He probably didn't want WWE to own his name so he changed it, he might have even came up with the name himself. The same thing happened with Brian Kendrick formerly known as Spanky.
Posted By: Bill (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:14 PM
man if the internet was around way back when, you'd haave "smart" fans complaining about mike shaw changing his name to norman the lunatic. get a life people, wrestlers are actors. you know liz lemon is tina fey, but you know that the character is supposed to be tina fey. just watch the show and enjoy it.

evan, evan... i just got my ass whooped by a guy named evan...nope, doesn't work, does it...
Posted By: casual_monday_mayhem (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:23 PM
guy, if the Internet was around way back when you'd have people bitching about Richard Blood changing his name to Ricky Steamboat. Can't see a guy called "Steamboat" being worth anything, nope.
Posted By: MC42 (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:33 PM
To the dude who commented on Flair and Van dam keeping their names upon arrival in the WWE....dude,Matt Sydal isnt fucking Ric Flair or Rob Van Dam and not even close, thus he doesnt keep his name.People like Ric Flair,Rob Van Dam,Booker T,Rey Mysterio,The Legion Of Doom...they all kept their names because they were already huge stars that didnt jusify a name change because it would have effected their run in a negative way in the WWE if they had a name change.Even C.M.Punk kept his name and if Samoa Joe or AJ Styles ever signed with the WWE,they'd keep their name.Matt Sydal isn't any of those guys. He's just some ROH guy that has his minions who are crying about his name being Evan Bourne.Quite honestly,Evan Bourne sounds cooler than Matt Sydal anyways.

"Tales From the Ring"?
How long did it take him to come up with something so clever?
Posted By: Mike (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:38 PM
Evan Bourne? EVAN BOURNE! Sounds like a total jobber. Since he is like 5'7" that's what he'll only be in WWE anyway. Evan Bourne...haha.
Posted By: Oscar (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:51 PM
Evan Bourne = jobber for life.
I'd like to think the reason people are upset about him changing his name is because it's a crappy name. WWE has had a tendency lately to saddle people with crappy names lately. I think that's more the problem than anything else.
Posted By: Steve (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 05:52 PM
Unless Matt Sydal's REAL name is not actually Matt Sydal, then WWE or anyone else cannot trademark/copyright that name. I actually doubt it was Matt's decision because he wanted to protect his name (unless Matt Sydal is a made up name), but moreso WWE's decision to try to give him "somecoolname" instead of letting him go with his real one. The only guys who have their names ripped are those using a stagename.
Either way, no one can copyright someone else's actual name. If his name is Matt Sydal in reality, then WWE could never prevent him from using it if he ever left. So I doubt that was the logic.
I just think it is stupid to have the guy on TV one week as Matt Sydal, then the next week his name is Evan Bourne. I mean, us rasslin fans may be stupid morons with no memory...but C'MON. What are the gonna say when they are showing replays of "Matt Sydal" being powerbombed onto Kofi last week? I already know...they will not ever mention that they were calling him something else, even though everyone knows they were. That kind of stuff is just so stupid. Would any other television show do something like that? Would a character on ER ever be called one name the first episode, then called something else from then on? Of course not, because people would call them on it. If anything, I could see them having to switch back to Matt sydal because people aready know who he is. What if a bunch of people keep chanting Matt Sydal during Evan Bourne matches?

How can Santana be in the WWE Hall of fame and not Backland or Sanmartino?
Posted By: Roadhabib (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 06:50 PM
At first to me it seemed like a terrible name but after a few hours of reading and such I realized that it actually isn't a bad name and it will eventually grow on us. It kind of sounds like a high-flyer name like he actually is.
Posted By: knockout (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 06:52 PM
After a while we while most of us will have nothing to complain about. At first the name Bam Neely sounded terrible also but I learned to deal with it and it's not that bad anymore, but it could be a lot better not a main event name but I don't think that is why they brought him in anyway. I believe that the name change was his choice but I can now picture him under that name. Just give it a little time and everything will turn out alright.
Posted By: knockout (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 06:55 PM
Wow, yet another whiney barrage from the smarks against WWE from a complete non-event news wise.
I am truly shocked.
Who gives a multicoloured fuck if the guy changed his name since the only people who care are the "I can't bring myself to watch WWE and so won't be exposed to Evan Bourne anyway" brigade anyway?
At least he's not fighting in exploding piranah fed anymore.

Am I the only one who sees this as a potential Holier than Thou gimmick? He's Evan Bourne (Heaven Born)and thus greater than us...could work as a heel gimmick.

"When Flair

I agree that the name change is kinda ridiculous but this is such a bad comparison. The reason why they keep their names is they were established and had market value. Outside of the smarks, Sydal has none whatsoever.

"Wah! Why they change him name? Why? Wah!!"
I knew we'd get responses along those lines before I even clicked on the link.
Who knows why? Perhaps it's because WWE writes his paycheck and they came up with a different name. Perhaps he wanted the change. Who the hell cares anyway? It's nothing new - Cactus Jack became Mankind, Flex Kavana became Rocky Maivia became The Rock, Terra Ryzing became Hunter Hearst Helmsley became Triple H. Wrestling names are supposed to suck anyway, Test? Edge? That composer guy from WCW? Who cares if they hardly make sense, so long as they get over who gives a crap?
If Sydal/Bourne is any kind of talent, he'll make his shitty gimmick work. If not, back to the Indies.
Posted By: dennett316 (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 08:31 PM
WWE can't copyright a person's real name. sure, they would be that evil, but the law says they can't.
wanna know y his name was changed?
WWE wants us to forget that he was ever Matt Sydal, and only think of him as Evan Bourne. then, if he ever decides to leave, he can't get people to love him as Matt Sydal, because people will want Evan Bourne. but he won't be able to use that name, because WWE owns it.
Think about it this way: what will get more buys?
A. Paul Levesque vs. Phil Brooks
B. Triple H vs. CM Punk
Even though its the same match, most people don't know their real names, so "B" will get more buys. Its a pretty smart idea of the WWE. sure, "A" or "B" would of been the same 10 years ago, but not now. WWE owns Triple H and CM Punk, but not Paul Levesque or Phil Brooks.
Posted By: Jordan (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 09:18 PM
who cares about them changing his name? I sure as hell dont. when kennedy first started I think his name was Ken Anderson not Ken Kennedy and he just showed up with a different name and things worked out ok.
Posted By: Guest#3363 (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 09:26 PM
The name change is pure business. It could have been better, but it will grow on us providing he is booked well.
You guys already flying off the handle about him after one match, that he won, simply because of the name are just over reacting. Give him/them a while then whinge.
You know I'm sure some people here are ready to rant before they've even found out what they are angry about.

Special move...the Evanflow DDT....
I always thought it was SyNdal anyway..
Posted By: hohhohoh (Guest) on June 08, 2008 at 10:21 PM
WWE changes people's names so they can trademark them and prevent them from using them in competing promotions should things not work out. Kurt Angle is an exception because his name was worth something before he came aboard. But I believe he was one of the last ones to be allowed to use his name, along with Lesnar. With both working elsewhere right now, WWE is trying to get more control over the names that appear on the marquees.

As for the Ken Kennedy post; in OVW Paul E suggested it kinda as a rib on somebody else. At least Ken still gets to use the KK tights.
Names are names, get over it. I think there are more important things to whine about than a silly name change.
Posted By: Guest#4482 (Guest) on June 09, 2008 at 03:56 AM
Evan Bourne > Moose x 100000000000
I hope every whiny smark realises this and goes and bitches about TNA and Mickie Knuckles now.
Posted By: Dr Domino (Guest) on June 09, 2008 at 05:48 AM
WWE has enough Matts anyway. Striker,Hardy,Sydal.....Vince is well aware that all wrestling fans are completely stupid and might get people with the same first names confused! I could barely tell Shane McMahon and Shane Helms apart until until Helms changed his name!
Posted By: Jake Fury (Guest) on June 09, 2008 at 08:36 AM
Its Matt Sydal...come on.50 posts over this guy?Look,he's just some guy from ROH.Even in ROH he was just some guy. He's not Samoa Joe or Austin Aries or C.M.Punk or The Briscoes or Bryan Danielson or Colt Cobana or Alex Shelley....he's just some guy.If Trent Acid signed with the WWe and they changed his name, would you guys being crying about that? because lets call a spade a spade, there isnt any difference between Matt Sydal and Trent Acid when it comes to importance.Sydal is just some guy who's biggest claim to fame as a wrestler is training Floyd Mayweather jr and it always will be.Yeah, thats right,I said it.Sydal knows it too.
Posted By: jasonJericho (Guest) on June 09, 2008 at 01:37 PM
Did Vince not learn anything from the whole Monty Brown/Marcus Cor Von disaster last year? Why does he feel the need to change people's names just so he can frickin trademark them?
Posted By: Anonymous (Guest) on June 09, 2008 at 07:43 PM
Let me guess... Sydal's going to wish he was never Evan Bourne?
