Crew Worker Dies In Scaffolding Accident At TNA PPV
Posted by Ashish on 06.09.2008

A crew worker died last night after he fell nearly 20 feet to the ground when scaffolding collapsed as he worked to tear down TNA's metal backdrop following their PPV. The incident took place shortly after the PPV ended last night. The man was quickly rushed to the hospital but his injuries were too severe. He worked for Christie Lites of Orlando, Florida and was a sub-contractor for TNA.

Another worker lost his thumb in the scaffold collapse. This man works for Crew One Productions.

WMC-TV has more on this story here and the Memphis Commercial Appeal has an article on the story here.

Damn. All my best to TNA, their workers (permanent or contracted), and their families.

likewise, and hopefully nobody will have anything "clever" to say. we all know how ignorant people get behind a computer screen

Best of LUCK to TNA more like it. That man's family is going to sue them for millions most likely.

A very unfortunate incident. My prayers go out to the guy's family.

I'm going to try to not make a joke about him just getting caught up in the spot-heavy stylings of TNA.

These are professionals. Dont' try this at home.

Deeply sorry about that. Thoughts and prayers to his family.

wow, what a freak accident. you don't read this kind of news that often, i'd hope that tna is classy enough to give one of their workers (off camera or not) an on air mention and send their condolences to this guys family.

"Best of LUCK to TNA more like it. That man's family is going to sue them for millions most likely."

The guy is just a subcontractor for TNA. If he family will be suing anyone, it will be his employers - Christie Lites.

if it wasn't even a 20 foot drop, he must have landed pretty bad

I just finished the chapter of Bret Hart's autobiography where he talks about Owen falling to his death. Absolutely terrible and tragic news.

As someone who has a job preparing people for lawsuits, the families will sue every single person they can find that has anything what-so-ever to do with this incident, including TNA.

Lawyers love to name company after company after company and person after person after person.

The sad thing is, TNA will probably settle just to get past it, when they probably actually have no liability in this instance.

That is sad, awful news. These crew workers have a difficult, thankless job. God bless them.

he was doing his job, trying to support a family. accidents do happen and this is a tragedy.

my thoughts are with his loved ones.

How can they sue TNA?

TNA pay a company to put up the sets, if something goes wrong it will have nothing to do with TNA,
It will be the companys insurance that take the hit!!!!!

And it makes you wonder why wrestlers get hooked on painkillers when some have to take 20 foot bumps just like the one that killed him except every month.

If TNA does the right thing by the family of the worker that died and settle up with the man that lost his THUMB of all things....id say good deal all around.

The thumb loss is BAD, basically the only thing that TRULY seperates us from monkeys is opposable thumbs. In the longrun TNA will end up paying more for that than the worker that lost his life, amazing as it seems.

I sure hope they give this poor guy some on screen condolenses

i do hope his family does sue but unfortunately TNA dont have that kinda money...as much as i hate TNA but the most important thing here is that a man lost his life for a shithole company, but i sent
my condolences to the mans friends & family

TNA does have liability because it was their set that a worker died on taking apart.

Posted By: Guest#4802 (Guest)  on June 09, 2008 at 03:08 PM

to you morons posting things like Epic Fall...have a damn heart. Quit trying to be funny, because there's nothing funny about anyone falling to their death.

My condolences to the man's family.

Pretty pathetic that people feel the need to make stupid comments like Epic Fail, or make jokes about "wrestling product" or highspots when a normal guy was just doing his job to put food on his table. Accidents happen, there is no need to make smart ass comments or talk about lawsuits or anything else. All that stuff will be handled. A man died and another one lost a thumb, show a little respect. My best friend broke his neck from falling 10 feet off of a ladder and is now confined to a wheelchair,so no it doesn't even take that high of a fall to seriously hurt or even kill you.

I don't see the humor in this nor do i see why anyone is trying to be clever...its a thankless job like someone said and just cus they aren't on tv, in the ring, or cutting promos, doesn't mean anyone should make light of the situation.

a bad incident all around

This stuff doesn't happen in the WWE. TNA gets an EPIC FAIL for causing this.

Posted By: Vince McMahon (Guest)  on June 09, 2008 at 03:56 PM

Stuff like this doesn't happen in the WWE? Owen Hart ring a bell or are you too young to remember that happening?

Only difference is that TNA will not try to make a storyline around it like the WWE probably would. The WWE is such a joke.

411mania.com should start making posters register if they plan on making comments about a mans death. Not even a wrestler, a working class man who obviously loved wrestling and had a family. How would you feel if at your Fathers' funeral people wrote epic fail all over the tombstone. Have a heart. Grow some balls. And may karma come back to you internet pussies.

well this beats wrestlemanias fireworks incident.good job TNA

Posted By: guest (Guest)  on June 09, 2008 at 04:18 PM

Firstly, what a horrible thing to happen, my condolences to his friends and family.
Secondly, how can something like this degenerate into people going down the TNA vs WWE route? Show some respect and keep that rubbish for another comments section. No class, and shame on whoever let those comments through in the first place.

Really, Mr. Smartass? Then when was that "Owen based storyline"? Or did I somehow missed it during the last 9 years? You are the only joke here, kid. Grow up.

To all that said I was wrong in saying TNA could be sued for this. You're wrong, sorry. SHOULD they be held liable? No, a job is a job, sometimes accidents happen and in any case of scaffolds there is always that risk much like window washers or coal miners. However, this was a TNA set, and he was a sub-contractor working FOR TNA. There are numerous ways for a lawyer to approach this, the most obvious would be TNA willingly creating unsafe work environments and sets for their entertainment.

The TNA job that is dangerous is the guy who has to clean the toilet after Awesome Kong was in there.

Epic dump!

Poor guy, condolences to those effected.

Posted By: BBD (Guest)  on June 09, 2008 at 07:31 PM

I love how everyone involved in these comments is assuming they know all about it from just from two posts. Maybe it wasn't TNA's set, maybe he and the man who lost the thumb were not following safety protocols, perhaps they were drunk. Not to say that's right, or that you guys are wrong, but could we maybe hold off on the snap judgements until lawsuits start flying?

Posted By: Mathew Sforcina (Registered)  on June 09, 2008 at 09:18 PM

Very sad to hear. If TNA is/was smart, the agreement they had with the company would state that they have no liability for death or injury in their contract.

My husband worked with the deceased back on WCW for several years. The job is a difficult and dangerous one and I hope that every precaution is taken in the future to prevent another accident like this.

My thoughts and prayers go out to the crew works and their family.

I've used epic fail a lot on this site, but to use it in this instant is uncalled for.

I thought an editor approved all of the comments. So why does he let these morons post insensitive comments?

Godspeed Darlin'. You were a good man and meant so much to so many. You're smile and laughter and funny ways will be with us always. We'll do our best to watch out for the family and turn a deaf ear to the idiots who think this is an appropriate time to blather on about lawsuits and "epic" falls. Thank you for what time we had with you. We'll meet again in the next one!

To Mathew Sforcina...I suggest you stop assuming...The man who died was a friend of mine you, mother fucker...He was a consummate professional with MANY years of experience...Not only would he NOT have been drinking, he was DEFINITELY IN CHARGE of a large portion of the load out from a lighting standpoint...Until a formal investigation has been completed, I suggest you keep your ideas about my friend to yourself and just offer condolences to his family in their time of grieving...
