The Latest on Michael Hayes
Posted by Larry Csonka on 06.19.2008
He’s back, but at what cost?
Michael Hayes is back with the company full time, but his remarks to fellow WWE employee Mark Henry cost him a lot more than people thought. Hayes lost two months of pay and during that time was instructed to attend sensitivity training as well as alcohol recovery classes, which he did. Hayes is back as a writer, but demoted from his vice president position. This means that he will not be eligible for the stock grants and performance bonuses, which most years can be worth well into the six figures if profit goals are reached.
With all of this Hayes also has to undergo a lifestyle change. He is not allowed to drink alcohol during any company function. This includes while on the road and talent parties. There is talk that since Hayes' drinking is "the stuff of legend" that he may have to take "antibuse," which is a medication that makes you throw up if you drink the smallest amount of alcohol.
Finally, Hayes had to have a sit down meeting with Mark Henry in order to clear everything up, and he may have to meet with all of the company's African-American wrestlers.
The company feels that Hayes is a valuable part of the writing team, but if he doesn't change the company is prepared to move on without him. With WWE being a publicly traded company, the feeling is that if Hayes messes up one more time, he will prove to me more of a liability than he is worth.

He got lucky.
Fired and lawsuit against company in the real world.
Spoiler Alert:
Freebirds will turn on the VonErichs.

Being a racist really hurt him didn't it? He's gonna be in trouble when Benjamin gets a hold of him.
Posted By: William (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:16 AM
I really hope this works out well for Hayes, and everyone else involved. Yeah, he did a damn stupid thing, but who among us is perfect? Hopefully, he and Mark Henry can come to terms on this and try to put it behind them. I'm not saying they should be best buddies, but at least be able to conduct themselves professionally around each other. And if the Freebird's drinking has gotten out of control, he needs to get a handle on it. I've seen first hand how too much irresponsibly drinking can ruin a man's life.

wow..
what do you think his excuse will be for forgetting to take the "antibuse" ? :P

Hey, the guy was just calling a spade a spade, some people are just to sensitive bout their skin color. They have no problem getting their food stamps and welfare checks though. Noway has spoken, you can put it to bed

Ah how special. The wonders of liberalism strike again. I wonder how many times Mark Henry and other black athletes in the WWE have been suspended for using the term honkey, cracker, or whitey? I guess racism only applies to minorities.
Posted By: John (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:29 AM
I am happy that WWE is roasting Hayes a bit. That racial BS has no place anywhere. However, why do others get nothing but a slap on the wrist for things like shitting in duffle bags and such? Hazing and slurs are not that different IMO.

Antabuse (Disulfiram) basically makes the body have something close to an allergic reaction to alcohol. It can be fatal, but usually causes flushing, rapid heartbeat, nausea, thirst, chest pain, vertigo, and blood pressure drops when taken with alcohol.
People taking antabuse cannot even use things like aftershaves and mouthwashes which contain alcohol.
What I want to know is if he is taking the medication under observation or just ordered to take a pill. Where I work, it has to be the liquid form and the patient is watched for a reaction (and that they do not throw it up) for 15 minutes afterwards. They have to take the monitored liquid form for 2 years before they are switched to the pills.
Sounds like PS is paying a heavy price for his drinking. You have to wonder what Henry is getting out of this deal for not making a bigger issue out of this.

Hayes has to stop pretending its 1983.
Posted By: dude11767 (Registered) on June 19, 2008 at 11:39 AM
and he may have to meet with all of the company's African-American wrestlers
Thats a little overboard !!
Hayes is not raciest !
Booker T and even new comer Lashly never had an issue with Hayes cause they excepted Hayes for who he was - Hyes came from a different era - he is the blackest white guy you will ever meet described Booker T he grew up the way we did thats why his character is so great he is one of us said lashly !!
WWE is going overboard !! - Considering there isn't too many African American in WWE -it is pointless consider the issue was with Henry !!

WWE is a shit product
Posted By: Orlando (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:42 AM
Hayes is lucky to still have a job. If WWE had fired him I wouldn't blame them at all. And I think they would have if he weren't obviously vital to Smackdown's writing team. Just the same I do believe he's one slip from getting the axe.

they should make him issue a public apology have mark henry say he forgives him then have d'lo brown say "I don't" and they kick his ass so badly he thinks he's back in the AWA.

It's good to see Hayes back, he's smart enough to get himself right and be the leader and professional he needs to be. In a corporation environment of today you must be a rolemodel at all times. You cannot be one of the boys. You have to recommend firing, termination and be able to do so without emotional baggage attached- if in fact Henry has to be released and let's be honest that is a potential reality, the last thing the WWE needs is a racial lawsuit on their hands and huge fanbase alienated when every dollar counts. Michael Hayes will be a smarter businessman and asset to the company even further if he does his time and does it well. He will be right back up there in no time.

IMO he should have never been punished for a thing. Its called freedom of speech.People get to offended these days and get their feelings hurt.Big Deal.Get over it.
Posted By: woah (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 01:09 PM
While I dont think that Hayes' comments were in any way appropriate, how can they justify the little slaps on the wrists for failing wellness testing but go straight to this for one remark?
If Hayes was in fact brought up around black people (only those FROM Afica are African Americans) and is not a racist, then why demote him?
If he has an drinking problem then the steps to get him help are good ones.
But costing him that much earning potential?
Maybe Micheal could go elsewhere - no he wouldn't make the same money, but he could do what he does best, write good wrestling.

Country would be a hell of a lot better place if people quit bitching about how their feelings get hurt. As long as the man apologized to Henry and he accepted it, then it should have been the end of it. Its ok for a black man to call a white man a honkey or a craker, but the moment a white man calls a black man the forever dreaded "N" word, the world goes into chaos. Surprised as hell Jesse Jackson and/or Al Sharpton haven't spread their propaganda on this matter.

As Booker T said in a recent interview, Hayes thinks he's black.
Posted By: PHOENIXZERO (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 02:45 PM
Political correctness run amok.
From what I can gather, Hayes was actually buddying around with the guy, and whilst he was probably being irritating I damn sure doubt he was making racist remarks to a guy that weighs 400 pounds and could snap him in two (and he knows it.)
I think Vince calling Cena a nigger on live TV was WAY more racially charged than this. How does that differ? They both said the N-word, one in front of the world and one in front of a bar full of people... pathetic.
I hope Hayes cleans himself up of his own accord and isn't forced to take medication against his will.
Posted By: BBD (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 02:51 PM
How is that any worse than Booker T calling Hogan a nigga?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=49kFPeItBdg
In all seriousness, though, maybe Hayes thought he was doing us all a favor. Maybe he thought he could hurt Henry's feelings enough to make him finally give up wrestling, at which he is utterly and unquestionably awful.

"Ah how special. The wonders of liberalism strike again. I wonder how

Well we haven't read anything about them getting suspended for it, so it looks like none. He was stupid enough to say it in front of ppl. so you can save that racism/minority only works one way for another time
Posted By: TWilliams (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 03:59 PM
Oddly enough, political correctness and forced tolerance like this only drives more of a wedge in between the races. Liberals can't seem to figure this one out yet.
But yes, let's ruin someone's career to satisfy Jesse "Fraud" Jackson or "Fake Reverend" Al Sharkton.
Posted By: John (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 04:07 PM
Oh, what rubbish. Come on guys, the story about Hayes was all over the Associated Press and seriously pissed off a reasonably famous employee. Based on that, are WWE going to (a) ignore it, risk coming across as WCW-ish racists and risk a potential race-related lawsuit, (b) going to make an example of Hayes to prove that racist remarks, however foolishly made, will not be tolerated from one of the biggest cheeses in a global corporation (and therefore, from none of the lower-level employees either)? Get some perspective here.
And sure, we can reach for the Mexicools/Booker-HHH feud/etc argument to suggest that Vince is a big racist, but in a company where Booker, Eddie, Rey, Rock and Lashley all held top titles, that just doesn't hold up.

Posted By: Farooq (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 04:48 PM
I agree WWE way overreacted to this Hayes thing. I think Mark Henry is an asshole for telling on him. He should have dealt with him himself instead of snitching like a little bitch. He meant it in a joking manner too. Its not the same as if the leader of the Klan had said the n-word. Black people can say honky all they want and its ok. But the second a white man says the n-word they are nailed to a cross. Not really fair if you ask me.
Posted By: Guest99999 (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 04:52 PM
WWE is starting to sound like a police state. Look I'm moderate, so I'm not going to preach the evils of Political Correctness or say "well he said that, but they can say" garbage. I think this went way overboard, but most corporate sponsers are based in Political Correctness. If WWE wasn't afraid of losing money, or public opinion, this wouldn't be a big deal.
There is such thing as racism, or just calling a black guy the n-word. There's a big difference, and I wish we could wake up and realize that. For Hayes, saying the N-word is no more racist than using the slang "brother" or "bro." At least in my professional opinion, I don't know the guy.
Posted By: fg76 (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 05:07 PM

I bet there's plenty of more racism going on that hasn't surfaced.
Posted By: Jason (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 05:49 PM
Oh wow, I can't beleive people are in here saying that they are going overboard. Let's take into consideration, just for a few seconds, that not all WWE fans are white. If they want their ratings to decrease even more than it already has, then not reacting to this would be a good idea, but not otherwise.
Posted By: Jason (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 05:56 PM
Boy, you guys are a bunch of right wing racists, aren't you? So when does the Klan rally start, I gotta get my white sheet ready.
Seriously, do you think Hayes ever called Rey, Chavo, or Carlito a spic? No! I wonder why? Maybe because they are racial slurs (and don't tell me that cracker and honkey are bad, those words don't mean shit). And you don't know what Hayes has said to Henry in the past, maybe he told him to stop and Hayes didn't listen. Or you don't know what Henry has heard in the past. Hayes is a VP and head writer, he has a lot of power, he should be smart enough not to use racial slurs to employees. It's not political correctness, it is common fricking sense people. Get you heads out of your ass and take down the rebel flag and join the 21st century.
Posted By: DC (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 06:08 PM
I wonder if Mark Henry would have said "I'm a honkey like you..." if he would have had the same punishment. Guess we won't know, but chances are the old racial double standard comes into play. Like when Chris Rock called all white people white trailer park trash...he starred in a movie. Dog Chapman gets crucified.
Posted By: fredtheimpaler (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 06:33 PM
I cannot believe the idiocy on this board. Black people can call white guys all the names they want because A) They are a minority and it's physically impossible for a minority to oppress the majority and B) white people don't have 200 years worth of history of violent oppression. Grow up, poor little white kids. You lot will never understand.

I'm sick of hearing about liberalism and political correctness gone mad. Freedom of speech?! Right there is what is wrong with America. You people whinge about your rights but never take the responsibilities that come with those rights seriously.
Case in point: Call people niggers in your own time. At work you're responsible to your boss so DON'T ACT LIKE A JERK AND SLUR YOUR CO-WORKERS!
Posted By: John Smith (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:45 PM
Most of you 12-year-olds are missing the point. It isn't so much about what Hayes said/did as much as it is that WWE needs to protect itself as a publicly-traded company, and is doing exactly that. It really doesn't matter if you disagree with it, so take your crack pipe and get out of here.
Posted By: RDog (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:51 PM
Its funny how white people complain that black people can say honky and cracker while they can't say the n-word. Seriously if you are a white person and are called cracker or honkey does it even make you feel bad? Calling a black person the N-word is some fucked up shit. Like reminding them they came to this country as slaves and white man is superior to them.
What Hayes did in reality probably wasn't meant to harm Mark Henry but it did. In a business stand point, action needed to be taken. Hayes is an actual WWE Staff employee and not contracted like Wrestlers. They have to adhere to different policies to keep there jobs.

I swear to god if I read ANY point that brings up slavery, here or anywhere else, I'm going to bash my head against a wall and chug a bottle of draino. First off, NOBODY from the slavery era is still alive, so how can anybody blame anyone today for that when nobody was even around to experience it; from either side. White people did not got over and kidnap the black people, HUMAN BEINGS went over to Africa and kidnapped OTHER HUMAN BEINGS, which is pretty sad with how "advanced" we are in today's society that nobody has gotten the point yet that a skin color doesn't exactly define the way your personality is(yeah that's a good reason to hate somebody.....because of how they look or dress....welcome to Kindergartin!)
IF Hayes said anything that offended Henry, and persisted even after Henry told him to stop, Henry did the right thing. At the same time, I can't see why people get offended at "racial slurs", when we're all part of the same race.....you know, the HUMAN race?
Posted By: Guest#2476 (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 05:42 AM
when someone white gets called honkey or cracker in the workplace ,it is not dealt with as being racial slurs. even though they kind of are. if you are calling someone a name because of that persons color its a racial slur ,end of story. i know this from experience. where i grew up you didnt say thing s about someone elses race unless you were some kind of racist piece of trash, even if you though you were just joking about it.
Im us wasnt really punished .yes he got fired but also got millions in the whole process and then got a new job. how that works i dont know. also who listens to imus anyway.
and with Hayes drinking ,couldnt they have figured this out at HHH and Stephs wedding. i heard stories that he got blitzed and acted like a total ass.
Posted By: gutter (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 07:17 AM
I wonder if Mark Henry would get suspended if he used the "N" word to a fellow co-worker like Shelton Benjamin? I doubt it, because the word is only ignorant when a white person uses it, right liberals?
Posted By: Michael (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 09:11 AM
Right wing racism? Uh, don't forget it was your precious liberal

Posted By: Michael (Guest) on June 19, 2008 at 11:27 PM
Do you need a history lesson, I guess so. Those were Dixiecrats, who left the Democratic party after Johnson signed the Civil Rights act, Johnson himself said that the Dems would lose the south, and guess what, they did. Because white racists didn't want blacks to have basic rights to sit at the same counter or drink from the same water fountain. And it is Republicans who have the "Southern Strategy." Just ask John McCain what they said about his adopted daughter family in 2000. Not all right wingers are racist, but a lot of them are.
Posted By: DC (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 10:03 AM
It makes me so fucking sick that right-wing people have officially demonized the word liberal. As if having a political opinion that doesn't agree with George "Heckuvajob Brownie!" Bush is somehow illegal. Fox News and good ol' Rush Limbaugh have actually managed to make people believe that it's unacceptable to believe something else. That being a LIBERAL is so SPOOKY AND WRONG! THAT THOUGHT IS WRONG! Just take a look at modern political discourse, and apparently this message board. Tell me how many times someone used "All you Republicans!" and compare it to how many times I've seen "All you Liberals!" And that's just today. It's fucking disgusting, and ANYone who enables this sort of fascist thinking should be ashamed of themselves for impeding the progress of the human fucking race.
It's called free thought people. Look it up and fuck off. And while you're at it, also realize that in today's world, only Americans look at people of another color and hate them for that reason alone. Not religious differences or anything like that. Around here, we just don't like those darn blackies! Give me a fucking break. What is this, 1700? Christ on a crutch. Everyone on this board who has demonstrated such obvious racism should stop for a second and think about how black people got to America. I don't think they were steering the boats.
Posted By: Talon (Registered) on June 20, 2008 at 10:12 AM
I want to know how many times Mark Henry has said the N word before Hayes said it. If one group of people can not say a word then no one should be allowed to say the say word no matter how it is pronounced. I beleve that if you are Afican American and you use that word then you can not claim racsism.
Posted By: Tim (Guest) on June 20, 2008 at 12:39 PM
Liberalism is free thought? Huh? If that's the case, Michael Hayes wouldn't be a strike short of being on the unemployment line. It's the liberal philosophy that has brought us "great" nations like the Soviet Union, China, and Cuba. Little to no free thought there. Mostly re-education camps and unhappy people. But hey, everyone makes the same amount of money! Yipee.

it is a sad state of affairs when some talentless, fat, sweaty sack of donkey shit has enough pull by playing the race card to get someone as talented as Hayes suspended in the first place.
although, i do support the company ENCOURAGING him to stay away from alcohol when he isn't in his home, i can't really see how they could reasonably enforce it. unless, of course, they make it part of Wellness and change that to include everyone in the company.
saddest thing is that the fat assed whiny pussy Henry is now untouchable.
pathetic abuse of human rights laws
Posted By: Darth Mortis (Registered) on June 21, 2008 at 12:31 AM
The internet is really tasteless. Some of the idiotic remarks in regards to this shows that. I find it really pathetic that such people can only express their true beliefs online where they can hide their identity. To actually bitch about guy getting justly punished for racism and to hate the victim, not only the victim but make crude remarks toward the race of people themselves for a guy that is terribly flawed in life and for what? How do you know the black wrestlers make racist remarks behind curtain? you dont; you make blind ignorant judgements to try and push a point. THE point is hayes messed up, hes an alchoholic, hes an ignorant man and he got what he deserved. He had issues with lashley as well. You all seem to think hayes is this valuable asset that the wwe cant live without. He doesnt improve the product he doesnt bring in more fans. open youre damn eyes and get a clue. To be so ignorant about something so unreal is really pathetic. Get off the internet and get in the real world, racism is looked down upon in the public eye. You got a problem with tha go public, voice your beliefs where it matters. See how brave you are and see how far you get. i garentee you it wont be far.

I like michael hayes so much that I have his picture tattoo'd on my leg. along with buddy's and terry's picture!!! and I have fabulous freebirds tattoo'd on my back!!! I would love to cuss mark henry out!! if he doesn't like michael hayes then I sure don't like him!!!
