WWE News: Announce Team Drama, Rey Mysterio Update and More
Posted by Larry Csonka on 07.21.2008

- There is a lot of unhappiness in the company with the Jerry Lawler/Michael Cole announce team. There has been talk of shooting an angle to get the original announce teams back together. Vince McMahon is said to be against this, instead working with Cole to become what he wants the Raw announcer to be.

- Rey Mysterio wasn't on Raw last week because he is not fully recovered from his torn biceps injury. They shot the angle and easy match with Santino to showcase him as a new Raw star, but he is a few weeks away from a fulltime return.

- DH Smith has relocated to Florida, where he has been working out of for some time. While he and TJ Wilson have been teaming in developmental, they are not looking to team them together on TV.

I'm not gonna lie, I was happy for Michael Cole when they moved him to Raw. I thought it was good that WWE finally pulled the trigger on making him the voice of Raw. But after hearing him muck up consistently on every show, i see why everyone was against it. He's not that good live.

WWE would like to wish Rey Misterio the best of luck in his future endeavours ... a long prosperous reign as TNA X Division Champion

good, because lawler and cole make raw almost unwatchable(and raw has gotten better with its "unpredictability"). They took the 2 worst guys they have and paired them together, and us the viewers have to suffer each week.

I think the new announce teams are just something that needs a little getting used to by the fans. I like the new set up. Why does everyone dawg on Cole so much?

Replacing Cole on RAW while allowing Adamle to announce ECW would be kind of like worrying about a pimple while your hair is on fire.

I think Raw needs a third announcer, JBL needs to go back to announcing. We all know he is having back problems. JBL can be the true heel announcer, Cole is the straight laced good guy, and Lawler is a tweener.

JBL as the new Raw announcer after delivering a brutal beatdown of Michael Cole = Epic Win!!!

Foley and JR are my absolute favorite commentary team.

King seems to have no passion when he's with Cole. And thats saying a lot since he got kinda stale with JR.

But Cole can be annoying. I say with time it will get better.

Just keep JBL away from the announce booth and I will be happy!

Ummmm..... JBL on the announce team again wouldn't be terrible, but u got to look at Cole/King more. Maybe they should just trade the two announce teams from raw n smackdown to each other

Enough with screwing with the announce teams already! Does McMahon even know what he wants from the RAW announcer? And if he does, does that person even exist? Apparently it's not JR, it wasn't Coach, it wasn't Styles, and it might not be Cole. If it wouldn't hurt my ears so much, I'd be eager for McMahon himself to dawn the headset once again so that he couldn't bitch about the announce team. Old, rich, dumbass.

I hope they at least leave the announce teams as is. I honestly am very tired of the King and hope he gets the axe and off the Legend-land ASAP. He was fine during the attitude era, but he is just a tired act now, and brings little to the table to help Cole out. Tazz should get the RAW spot in my opinion, he and Cole worked well together. Forget ECW its toasted, should just let Todd Grisham do it, with maybe Dusty Rhodes, add some color to that dull show

If Rey isn't going to return for a few more weeks... then why didn't Santino jump him post match/backstage/whatever.

Then when he does return, boom, some actual interest.

Oh wait, that's a storyline, not an angle.

While I agree that Lawler/Cole are not my favourite pairing, and I do miss JR on RAW - I have to admit that JR/Foley are awesome together and I would hate to see them fall a part because Cole can't cut the mustard on RAW.

JR/Foley Lawler/JBL and Cole/Tazz

I have to say, for the past couple of years since SmackDown! went wrestling-intensive (and even when Heyman was head writer of SD! and they were putting out some of the best wrestling shows in "the WWE Universe," I often wondered if Jim Ross was sitting at home watching SD! wishing it was HE who was calling the matches on SD! after having to deal with the painfully dull and over abundance of backstage angles on Raw.

As long as SD! continues to keep heaving on wrestling and keep that other crap on Raw, SmackDown! will indeed be the flagship show for the WWE as long as they keep JR and Foley and the booking all where it is now.

SmackDown! IS working now and they shouldn't mess with it at this point. Raw is still too hit and miss these days. And Cole and Lawler fit right in on that "miss" factor and add nothing to that whatever is a "hit." But, let's face it, the hits are still far and between on Raw these days... so keeping that set up there works too.

And ECW is so beyond repair now, that does anyone remember who Adamle is anymore?

JR getting kicked off RAW just exposed King for what he had already become, and Cole can't make up for him, he has enough on his plate to try to do live TV, remember, he's been taping it for what, 10 years now?
Adamle is filling his spot (the comedy act) just perfect, no one really minds him bumbling thru 40-odd minutes every week, it's entertaining.

Cole would be alright on Raw if JBL replaced Lawler. He has no chemistry with the King, unlike JR and Foley who gelled immediately.

WWE needs to stick with keepin JR away from Raw or else JR will die of old age and they'll have no one remotely close to stepping in for him.

I do think it may be sensible to keep one announce team for the PPVs as they are all joint shows now. Get Adamale away from PPV! King and JR re-uniting for PPV's would be good and indeed it would make the announcing something special aside from the matches.

The problem with Cole on Raw isn't entirely Cole. It has been noticed by a few people that King seems to be kinda lacking passion and enthusiasm without JR and he needs to buck up and get over that. Cole will develop just from being live but he won't really develop if his announce partner doesn't give a toss about their relationship. If King won't buck up his ideas and at least pretend to have some passion for it still, then he should retire and let JBL return to Coles side.

My announcing is... VINTAGE UNDERTAKER!

Oops...

i wish they'd just turn Jerry Lawler heel again. He was always best as the suck-up, arrogant announcer who always justified the heels' actions even obviously struggling.

you know what Vince wants? He wants FAT TONY! He wants someone to not call the action in the ring and talk about all the different angles and the main event tonight. He wants a hype machine that will sell every single thing going on except the match in the ring. Thats why Foley/JR have been so great, because they just call the action and let it develop and help get guys over. Cole is doing that to a degree, and Vince wants to come in and end that. Make mine Prazak/Leondards

Open the Wallet and bring back Jesse Ventura. I would watch every week just to see him bust on Cole for two hours or on Adamle for an hour as well.

Bighustle said Cole is not good live...

Neither is JR.

Posted By: Brian (Guest)  on July 21, 2008 at 11:41 AM

Wow...why doesn't Foley get smashed by you guys for all the dead space he has during his matches, all the miss timings he had/has with Cole AND JR? Oh...because he is Mick Foley.

Actually, Lawler sucks now but if he was allowed to be a heel again, he would shine brighter than everybody there. I don't know if any of you remember a HEEL Lawler in the WWF (wrestler and commentator) but he was great....

Rey Mysterio wouldn't survive in TNA. He'll be forced to retire due to some life-changing injury

Lawler used to be great, nowadays he even drags Cole down. That's bad. Lawler should've gone to one of the B shows too.

Rey Mysterio, the Midget That Keeps On Breaking.

Seriously, get some super glue, shrimp!
