WWE News: Shane On Opie & Anthony, USA's Success, Batista Magazine Cover, ECW & RAW
Posted by Ashish on 08.07.2008

- Shane McMahon is set to appear on the Opie and Anthony Show Friday morning to judge their Summerslam contest. The contest will see people cut wrestling promos on two of the show's producers, Sam and E-Rock, with the person who does the best one getting an all expenses paid trip to Summerslam. The show starts at 9AM on XM 202.

- USA Network was once again the top rated cable network in primetime and among the 18-49 demographic for the weekend ending on August 3rd. RAW, as usual, was a big part of USA's big numbers, as it was the #6 and #9 rated shows of the week.

- Batista will be on the cover of Muscle & Fitness Magazine in September.

- WWE will be taping ECW with RAW on November 17th at the Philips Arena in Atlanta, GA. The ECW/RAW taping is due to international touring and is not a permanent change. Tickets for the show go on sale October 4th at 10AM.

- Edge and CM Punk are scheduled to appear at tonight's FCW TV taping.

To provide some insight for those who many not be Opie & Anthony fans:

E-Rock is a doughy mush that Opie, Anthony, and third mic, comedian Jim Norton rip on relentlessly. He's a big wrestling fan who lists Hulk Hogan as one of his idols. If you're a YouTube junkie, you may have seen him in the clip where he takes the "Cinnamon Challenge" (swallowing a full tablespoon of dry cinnamon) and almost chokes to death.

Sam is an annoying scamp with a gigantic afro, even though he is Caucasian. His "gimmick" on O&A's show is to accept everything Vince McMahon does as gospel, ensuring that he protects the business at all times (in particular, his on-air mourning for Vince after his limo "blew up"). He also hates eating adult foods like steak, rice, or grilled chicken, preferring instead to eat frozen fish sticks, chicken fingers, and french fries like an 8-year old. The boys once forced him to sit in a high chair while guest Mick Foley fed him steak which made young Sam gag.

As an aside, Mick Foley also played cupid to hook up co-host Anthony Cumia with his ultra-hot girlfriend, Jill Nicolini, a NY traffic reporter and former Playboy model.

Thank you for that insightful Opie and Anthony background. Is there any worthy radio on these days??? That plays METAL???

Another few connections between O&A and WWE:

Opie and Anthony hosted th New York pregame show for the XFL

Triple H is a fairly regular guest and, prior to marrying Stephanie, would usually spank chicks while in studio. He also admitted, while on the show, to getting Stephanie's balloon knot

Once while appearing on the show with some strippers/porn stars, Bubba Ray Dudley asked the famous line, "what's that string?" when he saw a string hanging from between one of the girls legs. It was, of course, a tampon. The next night at the Smackdown taping, there were numerous "Hey Bubba, what's that string?" signs.

The current wave of popularity the iron Shiek has been riding, including his regular appearance's on Hoo Hoo Howard's show, was started on O&A when they tried to get him to cut a promo for the show and he just went on and on about Hogan, Blair, being Ah Ah Ewe Champween etc.

The show proves once and for all that Jummy Snuka may be the dumbest wrestler of all time.

The Rock once stormed out of the studio because of a racist webpage designer had worked with someone else on a site that O&A mentioned (or something like that, I know Scotsman had something to do with it--shocking)

Christian tried to fight the boys in the streets of NYC one day for a reason I can't remember.

Also, the show starts at 6am EST, although I'm assuming Shano Mac will be on the XM only portion, which does start at 9.

Linnnnger Looooonger

Jeff, good stuff. O&A have admitted to being out of the wrestling loop the last few years, but they have a good working relationship with WWE.

I think you may have confused Christian with Stevie Richards. I know there's a YouTube video of Opie trying to give Stevie a hard time, and Stevie jabbed him in the windpipe and started choking him out. A bit uncomfortable because it looked like a hacky staged wrestling bit, but Opie was turning purple and Ant was pretty nervous.

The Rock walk-out made for great radio. He was having a good conversation before someone mentioned the racist web site and Rock accused them of playing a role in it. Ant then did a bit in a future show where he pretended to get into a promo war with a cardboard cutout of the Rock. Then, shortly after they made up, Rock overlooked the boys for an appearance and Opie guilted Rock into apologizing before refusing to interview him and making him hang up. Uncomfortable, cringy stuff that the boys have built a career on.

Jericho got in a heated argument with Jim Norton after Norton joked about Christopher Reeve. Being that Jericho's mother was paralyzed, it was pretty understandable.

Norton also got into a major arguement with Jesse Ventura when he started talking about 9/11 conspiracy theories.

Both incidents are on Youtube if you want to check them out.

"Jason" and "Jeff" = Opie and Anthony.

Fuck Opie and Anthony. It can't hold a candle to Stern. I can't believe people buy into these two morons. Stern is god. Hell if there was no Stern you think there would be an Opie and Anthony? Shut up!

Because you avoid legitimately funny, honest, and entertaining radio like the plague? I understand.

You're going to love Opie & Anthony once Howard Stern embraces them as part of the Sirius-XM merger and tells his zombies like you that they are OK. Just like you all followed that fat fuck Bubba the Love Sponge who Stern and his minions hated...until he told you to think otherwise.

I'm not a huge O&A fan, but Stern is beyond passe at this point. He lost any relatability when he got divorced and signed for $200 mil with Sirious.

O&A, are a horrible rip-off of Stern. I can't stand the way Anthony over pronounces words and fake laughs at everything, and even when he's not trying to sound like Stern he does with the exact same delivery. Stern is not embracing them with the merger in fact XM is saying bye-bye to them in October. They are the 2 luckiest men alive to make the kind of money they make at being copycats. Norton and O'neal make that show somewhat listenable.

It truly is amazing. Sirius/XM CEO Mel Karmazin came on O&A's show (the same day he did Stern's show, mind you) and said he's aware of how popular they are and they are going to work on resigning them. FMQB reported that contract negotiations are underway. O&A's agent said that he's been ironing out the details. But none of that matters because an anonymous message board douche named "Razor's Edge" says they'll be done on satellite radio in October. Stop the presses!

Perhaps you can succeed where so many Stern zombies failed before. Please enlighten me how O&A are Stern ripoffs. They do a completely different show. Completely different bits. Different style of comedy and bigger emphasis on cringe humor. So how exactly do they copy? Because they enjoy naked women?

You believe Stern invented everything on the planet, don't you?

I invented wrestling. Tell 'em Fred. Hoo hoo hoo.

Duuuuuuuuuudddddddeeee ... Why does every topic about Opie and Anthony have to degenerate into some thing about Howard Stern?

"Duuuuuuuuuudddddddeeee ... Why does every topic about Opie and Anthony have to degenerate into some thing about Howard Stern?

Exactly! I purposely kept my initial post neutral. I just wanted to let people who don't listen to O&A know what their connection to WWE is.

Besides, true O&A fans have gotten over the whole Howard feud. Howard and O&A have likely already buried the hatchet behind the scenes, O&A made on-air buddies with Mel Karmazin, Stern's #1 fan, and O&A and Robin have had nothing but nice things to say about each other (and they used to be vicious!). Plus, Jimmy and Artie are close friends.

The only thing about this situation is O&A fans are open-minded enough to make their own mind on whether they'll accept Stern again. Stern fans won't even give them a chance no matter how funny they are unless Howard gives them his seal of approval.

And again, before the zombies insist "I'll never listen to those guys", remember you all shit on Bubba the Love Sponge who Howard despised before he realized he needed "talent" (BWAHAHAHA!!!) in order to fill time on his two Sirius stations. Now you love him and think he's the 2nd best show out there after Stern. Just pathetic.

Jason S-

I tried, and I couldn't listen to O&A for more than 10 minutes. Same with Bubba.

I just love that O&A fans are so anal that they have to come onto a stupis message board and defend their heroes against all who wrong them!

Hoo Hoo I invented Rehab Robin..... tell em Fred.... Stern = boring old radio.

Opie and Anthony are the most overrated losers in the history. I used to call them up and heckle them when they were on WAAF in Worcester. Howard 4 Life!

Dude, are you kidding on how there show is a rip-off? You must have never listen to Stern before cause besides their names its the same everything, homeless people, retarded people, naked chics, drunks, etc. Oh wait thats right all radio shows were doing it before Stern.they only difference is they drag out and absolutely beat unfunny bits to death. I like how Stern gets criticized for inventing everything, but I would like to see any of his claims get disputed with proof, those guys have such hard-ons for Stern you know they must be jerking off everyday that their in his old studio with his old boss while they're getting no ratings, 0.0 Pathetic.
When they were on afternoons on WBCN they said "Of course Stern is the King","We love Howard" I wish I taped that for these Assclowns to hear

All I'll say is that if you want anybody to take you or your posts seriously, use a real name. I automatically assume that anybody going undera nickname during an argument is a teen, whether that's their age or IQ is another issue, but since were talking Stern fans, I'll go with the latter. You want to talk ripoffs, lookup when O&A first did the "diary of an unborn fetus", then see when Howie did it.
