WWE Planning New Eddie Guerrero DVD
Posted by Ashish on 08.09.2008

WWE will be releasing a new Eddie Guerrero DVD titled "Viva La Raza - The Legacy of Eddie Guerrero" on 11/14. The DVD replaces the heavily delayed Randy Savage DVD which was originally part of the 2008 schedule but has now been dropped.

Good to know that one of the most important/ entertaining wrestlers in modern history will get a best of DVD.

I never got to see him wrestle on TV, and while I love watching his old matches on my computer, I don't get a good picture. so a DVD will be great.

A new Eddie DVD would be fantastic. It might help to repair the complete disrespect the WWE showed immediately following Eddie's death.
Also too bad about Savage- a Macho Man DVD would be sa-weeeet!!

yawn. Eddie was a fine wrestler and all but they have already released a 2 disc set with a biography already. I can't think of alot of matches of his that happened after the Cheating Life Stealing Death dvd came out which they could include on this one. In my opnion a Savage dvd would outsell this by a vast amount.

I wonder if we'll ever be let in on the secret as to why McMahon hates Savage so much. I know there's been a lot of rumors floating around, but you'd think when it comes to the business of making money, they could put their differences aside.

I know Savage wasn't the greatest wrestler in history, but they should realize that there is a pretty large target audience for a Macho Man DVD. But instead, will probably get another lame-ass Hardy's DVD or yet another Rey Mysterio set.

the wwe will probably ha;f ass this dvd like they do every other dvd they release

Shane McMahon was on Opie & Anthony's XM show today and a caller asked him point blank what the issue was with WWE and Randy Savage. Shane insisted there was no issue and isn't aware of his father having any sort of issue with Macho Man.

Shane didn't stumble either. Maybe Savage really is being difficult and making Hogan-like demands (while 100x more talented and entertaining than Hogan, Savage never put the kind of money in Vince's pockets that Hogan did).

We all know the Stephanie rumor is 1,000% bullshit, but there's got to be another strong, viable reason that Vince has Savage blackballed. Savage is still a featured performer on almost every monthly edition of WWE 24/7 and is featured frequently on WWE.com, so it's not like he's getting the Benoit or "WWF" treatment.

How in the hell they gonna do a best of Eddie when alot of his best matches were with Benoit??

Posted By: PJ (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 01:26 AM

Unfortunately, I am certain this will be another DVD that lacks tons of pertinent aspects of Eddie's life with the sole purpose of using some of those aspects for the Eddie DVD that will be released in 2012 despite having mostly redundant content.

Posted By: T-Phunk (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 01:35 AM

YES!!! Its good to know that WWE still remembers one of the greatest wrestlers to ever step foot in the squared circle. Maybe they'll add the ladder match that Eddie had with Rey. That match was Awesome!!!

WWE is waiting to acquire TNA's video library so they can include Randy Savage's match at Turning Point 2004 on his best of DVD.

When Shane was on the show, did "Angry Vince" make an appearance?

Posted By: James (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 02:16 AM

To Charlie Haas Dammit...yeah, Ultimate Flair, Hard Knocks, Rise & Fall of ECW, and many others were SO half-assed. Right...

Posted By: James (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 02:23 AM

Also, as for people thinking they're doing another bio, maybe this will be one of the more match-heavy sets that they do sometimes. (like Tombstone or Hogan Anthology) But yes I wonder how they'll circumvent the many matches with you-know-who...unless this will be the next step of weaning us back onto seeing him again.

Posted By: James (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 02:26 AM

It will be a good dvd, considering there are many more matches in both his WWE and WCW history which have not been shown, along with a lot of tag matches he had with Chavo which were gems.
It would be much better for Macho to be on-side with a DVD the WWE released of his matches.
Another good DVD would be a Heel dvd (since they were the ones who could carry many matches to higher levels)

Put his match aqainst Jimmy Jacobs on the dvd HUSS HUSS HUSS HUSS HUSS

So will Rey Mysterio winning the World Title be on it?

Posted By: Guest#8705 (Guest)  on August 09, 2008 at 02:49 AM

They're just going to throw some matches together and put it out and people will rush out to get it and claim its so great, because nobody will put down Eddie since he's passed away. Mel Gibson did this same thing with Passion of Christ and people ate it up.

Excellent news. Can't wait, but I hope they reschedule that Randy Savage DVD for a later date.

Hopefully we'll have a Savage DVD someday.

a savage dvd would be the greatest thing ever. i don't wanna belive the steph rumour but like someone else said, vince will put any differences aside to make money. the fact they won't even make a dvd that slates him (like the warrior one) makes me think the steph thing is true.

shame tho, savage v jake roberts was the fued that got me into wrestling and made me life long fans of both

Eddie vs Edge Tlc match from smackdown. Rock vs Eddie Guerrero on Raw. Eddie vs Angle WM. There are plenty of matches they can put into this DVd that werent on the other one. Im not even going into all his cruiserweight matches he had on Nitro which CARRIED that programming.

I'd love to get my hands on a 3-disc Eddie DVD as well as a Savage DVD down the line. (Owen Hart would be my dream 3 DVD set)

I really want a Savage one but Eddie is one of my favourite wrestlers of all time & the last dvd they had for him was good but only had 10 matches( one of which didnt have him in it) i hope to see a couple from Japan & a match in wcw with Malenko.

Should be a really good dvd.

Davis: "Good to know that one of the most important/ entertaining wrestlers in modern history will get a best of DVD."

They are doing so at the expense of a DVD of another "one of the most important/ entertaining wrestlers in modern history", one who doesn't have a DVD set already to boot...

Ediie was good but I see the death = legend rule is still in full effect (Owen Hart, Heath Ledger, Kurt Cobain et al)

The reason McMahon holds a grudge against Savage was Randy's abrupt departure to WCW. If I understand correctly Savage was working without a contract for awhile but working on a paid per appearance with a handshake agreement to iron out a contract. VERY similiar to when Lex Luger left WWF abruptly.

No disrespect to Eddie, but I already have his DVD, and all his important matches there or on other DVDs. WWE likes to put out multiple DVDs for the same wrestler, usually because they put out the first one too fast. They did it with Flair, Mysterio, HBK, Hogan, and now they're doing it with Eddie. Personally, I'd rather have a Macho Man DVD.

"Savage is still a featured performer on almost every monthly edition of WWE 24/7 and is featured frequently on WWE.com, so it's not like he's getting the Benoit or "WWF" treatment."

Exactly. I think the last year+ has shown us if they REALLY want us to forget you, they have specific means of doing so. Which is why I don't think it's quite as bad as all that.

I have the original Guerrero DVD and I love it, but I'm a huge fan and I'd love to have another...this one could be more heavy on talking about his impression and influence on others - interviews with Chavo, Mysterio, Batista, etc.

Some matches I'd love to see on it (mostly in 04 and 05, though there's plenty of others from WCW and ECW I'd also want to see):

-No DQ vs Edge on Smackdown, circa 2002
-vs Kurt Angle @ WM 20
-vs JBL at Judgment Day 2000 (the brutal one where Eddie was COVERED from head to waist in blood by the end)
-vs Kurt Angle @ Summerslam 04 (I believe)
-cage match, vs JBL on Smackdown
-ladder match vs Mysterio @ Summerslam 05
-vs Mysterio on Smackdown (the one where Eddie finally beat him...it might've been at a PPV)
-vs Chris Benoit @ One Night Stand 05
-vs Batista @ No Mercy 05
-vs Kennedy on Smackdown (Eddie's final match...for completeness sake)

Err No, people wont put it down because hes one of the best wrestlers of the last 15 years.

My favorite Eddie matches were all against RVD. Check out the monkey flip spot in an Eddie-RVD match sometime. Those guys would fly from corner to corner on that move. They had a nice little feud over who had the best frog splash (I always thought RVD had that one won). They had a series of amazing matches and so far not much has ever been made about them. Eddie vs. Benoit was pretty boring most of the time, IMHO.

"Eddie vs Edge Tlc match from smackdown."

Agreed. Wasn't a TLC match though.

We all already have a great Eddie DVD. What we NEED is a god damn Macho Man Randy Savage DVD set. That would sell like you wouldn't believe. Savage is still beloved even by people who haven't seen a single wrestling match in like fifteen years.

I wonder if it will include his AAA matches, including his tag matches with Art Barr.

They're doing this so they can include the memorial shows, which were huge tearjerkers. (And more Eddie vs. Edge-DAMN they had some great matches)

Yeah, cause the other Guerrero DVD was soooo average... it's only 6 years old, jesus.

This screams lame, and seems as if it is once again capitalising off tragedy. There isn't that much more that could be added to an already great DVD.

Damn you Vince. A Randy Savage DVD set would allow you to light your cigars with $100 bills and sleep on a mattress made of money. Just drop whatever stupid ass grudge you have or give Savage what he wants and release the damn thing. Believe me, you're going to make serious money off of this set.

in the ring, eddie was the mexican ric flair. there was absolute poetry in his movement and, even as a heel, he had a love affair with the crowd.

so rarely are we privileged to see a wrestler who hit bottom, comes to terms with his iniquities and THEN supersedes the lofty standards he self-set. i can't see enough eddie guerrero matches...bring it on. it's already purchased in my mind.

i've thoughts on savage, but i think i'll reserve them for my column.

Snake Roberts ruined my wedding.

If you don't think Randy Savage was the god damn man in his days go and watch his early stuff. He was far and away one of the most talented workers in his hey day. I would think Vince would want to go out there and tap some unseen talents or time periods to freshen up the dvd sales. I am really waiting for them to do a behind the scenes dvd, like sportscenter or SNL did a few years ago. Were all grown up to know what it really is, now show us what goes on behind the curtain. That I would go out and buy.

The only thing lame is complaining about getting another dvd of a man who has had many great matches that wernt on his last dvd, are you meant to be a wresling fan?

"This screams lame, and seems as if it is once again capitalising off tragedy. There isn't that much more that could be added to an already great DVD."

Are you on crack?

First, how is this capitalizing off anything? Well, simple, it's isn't. Judging by your standard they shouldn't release anything by anyone who has died. You're probably just some anal smark like yourself who probably just wants to criticize them for ANYTHING won't like it.

And second, assuming you like wrestling, there was great matches on the first DVD but it's not like those are the only great matches he had. I can easily think of a dozen matches that could go on this and hardly be a disappointment. Plus the feature on that one (the TV special on Guerrero) was pretty weak compared to the usual documentaries they do.

I am so sick of these retread DVD's. When are we going to get some fresh faces?

Yes, a Savage DVD is LONG overdue, but how about one's for Edge, Batista, and Y2J. Dude's been there almost 10 years and NO DVD.

And is it just me, or do the DVD's the E puts out now not seem as good as they use to be?

"TWilliams are you comparing Eddy Guerrero to Jesus Christ?? Or just VKM to Mel Gibson??

I'm saying Vince is using people the same way Mel Gibson did with his movie. Trying to capitalize on a persons death to put money in their own pocket. Nobody can tell me they didn't run that angle after Eddie's death into the ground to get some money. It might take some time, but a Benoit DVD is next.

There is little reason to do a DVD on Batista unless it was just a single disc.

Did you know see the difference between running an angle immediately after someone died and doing a DVD three years later?

Is this why WWE has this God forsaken grudge against Randy Savage?

The reason McMahon holds a grudge against Savage was Randy's abrupt departure to WCW. If I understand correctly Savage was working without a contract for awhile but working on a paid per appearance with a handshake agreement to iron out a contract. VERY similiar to when Lex Luger left WWF abruptly.

Posted By: Darren (Guest) on August 09, 2008 at 08:27 AM

I don't know...i've never heard Vince or any WWE officials speak openly about it, but there is obviously some kind of blood feud here with Savage as WWE likes to take shots at him anytime they can including in that 25 greatest Finishers Promo they ran on wwe.com a few weeks ago.

I don't know what the problem is, but Randy Savage is a Legend and a Hall of Famer - one of the E's best Intercontinental champions ever and best characters for that matter. Maybe he's had some problems in his personal life - so what we all have our issues. He should get his due.

So whatever the feud is over - Randy should just show-up at Titan Towers or some other place Vince is going to be -maybe at a RAW show close to where Savage lives and just say "Hey man, I'm sorry...Can you diiiiiiig it??? Ohhhhhh Yeah!" for whatever it is...

Maybe offer to do a free public appearance just signing autographs or promoting something.

So they can end this feud and Savage can get his due and get inducted into the Hall of Fame on an upcoming WrestleMania weekend.
