John Cena Injured
Posted by Larry Csonka on 08.25.2008

Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer is reporting that John Cena is currently suffering from severe neck issues, which have started to cause numbness in one of his arms. Cena had an MRI done on Saturday before the show in Madison Square Garden. When he returned to the arena and people asked how he was, Cena replied, "Long story short, my neck is f*cked up badly."

The matches involving John Cena over the weekend were changed to tag matches, and the reason Batista carried most of the load. As of now, it is not known if Cena is going to take time off.

wow man, he should really take time off and not play with that.

I hope Cena recovers, but if he has to miss the PPV it would be great to get a fresh face in that scramble match, I'm thinking it just might be Kofi Kingston's time to shine.

I'm not a Cena fan but I really hope he gets well soon. Damn...

Shit, it never rains but it pours. He goes many years without much trouble and then suffers two horrific injuries in the space of a year. I'm sure I speak for the vast majority of wrestling fans, even those that hate Cena and think he sucks and want him gone from their screens, when I say I hope it's nowhere near as bad as feared.

With Orton injured as well, it's a good job Punk's finally being built as a semi-believable champion. In my opinion, he should retain at Unforgiven and then feud with Jericho, and have the Jericho/Michaels rivalry end with the title on the line.

If he is getting numbness in one of his arms he should get time off; he'll be an idiot not to.

knowing wrestlers he will probably try and gut it out and see if it will somehow go away, if he was smart though maybe after unforgiven he will take time off, dont want to end up like Austin or Angle

Even though I am not a fan of the guy and think he has been booked really badly, in the sense that the Hogan push doesnt work in this day and age I really hope that they tell Cena to take time off and rest himself. The wellness policy should be about more than suspending talent over drugs.

I hope he and the WWR do the right thing and he takes the time off to recover fully. I'm not a huge Cena fan but it would be sad if he ended up like Kurt Angle.

Here's hoping he knows when to step away and take some time off to heal. WWE will survive without him for a time, but I don't want to see him wind up like Angle, or worse.

You know wwhat ?

It's better having a few injuries than NOTHING for a LONG amount of time cause sooner than later something worse is happening .

I mean, I've seen people who never ever went to the doctor at all and claimed "I'm fine" "I don't need the doctor at all" and sadly they ended having the worst things possible afterwards .

So I do think HHH quads injuries (for instance) were a "blessing" in disguise for him .

Same for guys like Edge or The Undertaker (who is an exeample of how taking care of his own health of body instead of long title reigns which mean nothing in the grand scheme of things in the end)

I wish Cena to STOP before it's too late and not going the Kurt Angle Route aka the one that destroys your body forever .

Sadly those guys never learn at all, wrestling is an addiction and they can't live without it at all (ask Ric Flair for instance)

If Cena was smart, he would go The Rock's way

Aka going to Hollywood to make it and getting way more money for far less bumps and pain

I would send Cena a "get well soon" card, but I know he doesn't swing that way.

Dear John Cena,

PLEEEEEEEAAAASE DO NOT WRESTLE AT ALL UNTIL YOUR NECK IS FIXED.
Go to a chiropractor and let him adjust you back to normal. It may take several visits to move the vertebrae back to normal, but it will be well- worth the time and expense. If that doesn't work, maybe you will need surgery.

Sincerely,

Your fan, friend, homie and dawg,

Chico

@Guest#0417

You know, I fear the same thing in myself actually. Only injuries to my knowledge is a couple times where I've had stitches and a broken nose...and i'm 21. Makes me wonder if karma will rear it's ugly head and destroy me.

Anyways, i'm with the rest and hopefully it's not as bad as expected.

Replace him with Jericho in the Unforgiven Main Event.

OOOOO so thats why it was a tag match. I was at the show and really looking forward to Cena/Jericho. Oh well.

I've never liked Cena...

So maybe this is someones *coughjerichocough* chance to get a well deserved title match, taking his place.

Posted By: muh? (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 08:21 PM

Hmm, here's hoping the guy gets better and doesn't eventually need surgery down the line. It'll be one of two things you'd have thought, compressed disc in the neck or bone spurs.

Well, it's about time that fake ass Marky Mark disappeared again. While I feel bad that Austin's career was cut short due to a neck injury, I don't have the same compassion for Cena, and I honestly don't give a flying fuck what the Cena Fanation thinks!

Maybe that Batista Bomb at Summerslam that "almost" killed Cena did more damage than anyone thought...

Cena's a smart guy, and so's Vince McMahon, at least in terms of what equals good business. Cena's already been publicly acknowledged by Vince as "the future" of WWE, on the level of Hogan and Austin. This is not an injury to screw around with, nor to "wait and see" what happens with it. If Vince has any inkling that Cena's injured around the neck area, he'll pull him from the road ASAP and get him set up for some serious medical attention. Neck injury doesn't have to be career ending (Edge, Benoit, Lita) but if it's not addressed early and given proper time to heal, it's obvious the harsh effects it can have on the body (Angle, Austin).

If Vince doesn't give a shit about his performers, he'll at least give a shit about his bottom line - and that means John Cena's gotta rehab.

I had a feeling this would happen. Professional wrestlers go through a grind and that grind can lead to injuries an even healthy man like John Cena can't escape from. I hope he gets well soon. If he really wanted to he could go the Kurt Angle route and keep wrestling but that would be pretty stupid in my opinion. I would keep him out of the ring but would still keep him in the mix in a non wrestling role like they did in 1997 with Steve Austin's reign of terror after Summerslam. Then hen he's healthy enough to wrestle, he can wrestle. Knowing what we know about Cena's passion for his job though, he'll probably try to gut it out.

If Cena were to get Neck Surgery today there's still an outside chance he could appear at WM 25, possibly as a Guest Referee or something. But Cena needs to take this injury VERY SERIOUSLY, and so does the WWE... even if that means Fusion Surgery. Otherwise, we could be looking at another Dynamite Kid here... or worse yet, another Eddy Guerrero.

WWE needs to pull Cena out if his neck is that bad.

Posted By: Jigsaw (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:00 PM

I don't think his current neck injury has anything to do with his coming back fast from his bicep injury. Unless he was bumping on his neck to avoid hitting his bicep. But he didn't really look like he was in any pain.

Take off now, so maybe you can face Batista at Wrestlemania.

Posted By: the dude (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:02 PM

Cena shocked us with his recovery in time to win the Rumble. he managed to recover and rehabilitate his arm within 3 months when he was estimated out for 9 to a year. I think if anyone can afford down time to heal up it would be John Cena. So he should just accept that he can't wrestle all the time and take time off.

Come on, everyone say it with me now..... HIP HIP........ HOORAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

First, to the poster who wrote..
"Go to a chiropractor and let him adjust you back to normal"

-noooo !-
that is the worst thing you can do
if you've already got sensation loss or disruption..

i know the two cases are different,
but look back at what Angle said..
he -Did- exactly what you suggest,
he hurt his neck and went to the chiropractor and in the end
that is what buggered him up worse then
the actual act of having a broken neck.
(as it contributed to spinal cord damage)

Cena's best move would be to loose 15 or 20 lbs of weight to take some of the strain off of this structural system
and if that doesn't show rapid progress
then the Dr.Jho Operation would seem
to be the way to go.

the only reason it didn't work on Angle completely is because he's a bone head who goes overboard + a bad chair shot from brock.

Cena -could- likely finish his schedule up to the ppv, as the ppv itself is a 5 way match so theres not so much work being put on him and him alone like in his many other matches..
and he could just cut promos for the next week or two.

Foolio, You can join him.

He actually seemed to be starting to win some of the doubters over. Good time to get f*cked up. Doh.

Well it won't hurt his standing too much to take time off. He's won people over by not holding the title for a bit and that won't go away if he takes time off.

Posted By: Fenris (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:28 PM

I really wish this meant the end of Cena, but after the last Royal Rumble.... let's just say I'm prepared to be disappointed with another "miraculous" or "surprising" return. On the other hand, I'm gonna be LOVING the WWE until that poser gets back!!

Posted By: Guest#7222 (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:33 PM

To those that would say that Cena should retire and follow Dwayne Johnsons lead, you are forgetting one thing.

Cena LOVES the business. Rock had no problem leaving it behind. Who could blame him? Travleing 300 plus days a year? Sleeping in hotels, eating crap food half the time? It takes a special person to do it.

Like him or not, Cena is that man.

Posted By: The Coach (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:34 PM

Number one I hope he actually takes some time off before he ends up being the next Kurt Angle.

Secondly, the WWE can set this up perfectly for his return to go after Batista for putting him out of action. Not saying any of them will go heel, but in case Batista does turn and take the belt from Punk, then Cena can come back to get the title in the hero role.

Posted By: Orlando (Guest)  on August 25, 2008 at 09:36 PM

That sucks, I'm one of the few that enjoy Cena. I understaind He is not best wrestler but He works hard and usually brings it in big time matches. I hope he gets better.

He'll rehab his ass off and come back strong but I hope this isn't a case where, down the road, Cena hasn't painted himself into a corner with his comments about The Rock.

Everyone here knows that, more often than not, these men leave the industry broken, blackballed, or via McMahon pink slip. If you can leave healthy and be able to play with your kids because another calling suits you, grab that shit with both hands ... Vince and his family will bleed you and discard you in an instant for the good of their bottom line.

NFL players have to grind it out 'cause their contracts aren't guaranteed. Jim Brown left when he felt like it, took his money, made some more in Hollywood, and is walking upright. The Rock ... same thing. Their fans were entertained, and don't begrudge them because they made a choice to maintain a quality of life.

You don't play with vertebrae. If John Cena works through injuries just to show us he cares, he's a fool, especially when he's one of the very few guys with options elsewhere. Here's hoping he avoids a tragedy, and doesn't mistaken foolhardyness for loyalty.

i am done with wrestling. some of you people are fucking so out of line i wanna vomit. i have watched wrestling my whole life and loved it and whether you don't like the fictional character that john cena plays on tv or not, this is a human being who works his ass off to entertain us ungrateful fans. he is one of the brightest spots in the wrestling world today and love him or hate him is the only wrestler that seems to be able to genrate pure emotion and passion from a crowd. i can no longer support an industry that produces such disgusting human beings that for the sake of a god damn wrestling show wish harm on someone who has done nothing wrong to anyone. those of you who are wishing harm on this man because he plays too much of a superhero character or whatever your ignorant reaons are should suffer a worse fate, maybe even paralysis. enough is enough, boo him and chant cena sucks if you want, but i can not believe how far some of you people have taken this personal hatred of soemone who has done nothing wrong but not entertain you enough. i am done. you people are worthless. wrestling is worthless to me now.

Will it be a spinal fusion coming up for Cena (putting him in the same group as Edge, Rhino & Benoit) or the stopgap thing that Kurt Angle got? God knows that Angle has been Dynamite Kidding himself in recent times. While Cena is nowhere near the top of my favourite wrestlers list, I hope he doesn't go the same way as Angle.

Having the same exact injury he mentioned of arm/hand numbness, will require surgery to fuse either C4 or C5 or both (my case) Took over a year to get pain free in my hands after the surgery. And for those that jest of "taping it up and put some ben gay on it", I went two yrs with a quack who kept giving my muscle relaxers and told me to take my watch off because it was too tight on my arm. Changed doctor, one MRI and frantic call later I was sitting in neurosurgeons office being told "One 5 mile an hour bump and you are either paralyzed or dead." It isn't something to fool with and he needs to get it fixed!

Cena's muscles help to strengthen his neck. Losing weight will make it worse. He should build his traps up like Goldberg's. His are huge.

That makes no sense. Why stop watching wrestling just because some haters on a website wish John Cena ill will? That's like saying you aren't going to drive anymore because some people drive recklessly. How about being done with reading these comments instead? Doesn't that make more sense? Read the articles, sure, but just avoid reading the comments. Simple. Capeesh?

chico you are correct and i probably won't really stop, but wishing a man harm because you dont like him as a wrestler is a bit more then negative comments. wrestling fans used to draw the line somewhere and have some class. it's all just become a little too lowbrow to me. not too long ago some of these idiots were defending chris benoit, who murdered his own wife and CHILD, because he wrestles well and now wishing harm on someone who from everything i have read or heard is a great human being and a hard worker, because they don't like his style in a fictional sport. that doesn't make you a bit sick.
