Latest On Mick Foley Going To TNA
Posted by Ashish on 08.28.2008

Mick Foley and TNA have reached an agreement and Foley is expected to officially sign his TNA deal soon. He could debut soon after his WWE contract expires on September 1st.

SpikeTV is involved with the deal and may be helping TNA pay his contract, as they do with Sting. Foley may also be involved with other SpikeTV shows down the line.

There was some buzz backstage among the wrestlers at the Impact tapings this week that Foley will be coming in soon.

That didn't take long. What happened to his commentary?

Well that'll be good for them. In such a way that it won't help at all.

I dont believe it, Man
TNA is the shits

Why is Foley going to TNA? There's no reason too, it's just going to demeanor his hardcore legacy. TNA needs to create their own star, not always rely on WWE rejects.

Posted By: Laura (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 11:54 AM

I don't care what anyone says; this is a BIG catch for TNA. And those of you questioning if it will harm his legacy, keep in mind it is HIS legacy, not yours. Maybe he feels he has much more to do in his career artistically, which he couldn't in WWE.

Can't wait to see Cactus Jack vs Abyss.

Foley can still cut a great promo but I really don't see how that fits into "Total Non-stop Action". His body can't take the bumps anymore, but I don't blame Foley for going (money talks and you can piss Vince off at the same time).

I just don't see it working though. Building on fresh talent made TNA what it is and they should just stick to putting on great matches, which Foley won't be able to do on a regular basis anymore.

I've always been a fan of Foley regardless
what he does or where he goes. Good for him.

What a letdown. We get a couple weeks of dream team commentary by way of Mick and JR, and now he goes to TNA. Now he gets to feud with Curry Man or some other garbage. DISAPPOINTING. Why, Mick?

unless his main job is announcing this serves no purpose. maybe we get a hardcore match or two, foley puts abyss over but in the long run useless outside of announcing.

Y'know, this might actually get me to start watching Impact.

If, y'know, the taping reports say Foley does something good.

I swear, if they went live I'd be watching a lot more to see what happens... knowing ahead of time takes awesomeness out of even the best Foley promos...

If it was 10 years ago that would be quite the grab for them..

but now ?

unless he's being added to there announce team i don't really see the point.

Anyone who rips Mick Foley did not watch wrestling in the 1990s. There, I said it, now deal with it you 'E fanboys.

Damn Dixie, that was ONE smart-as-hell move, having Spike kick in on the contract.

And as for Mick Foley....

GENIUS!!

Sting money and TV Shows?! I already watch plenty of Spike... may have to start watching TNA now on the regular.

One favor Mick, PLS don't wrestle, just book, and help the young guys.

BTW Vince, you're an idiot.....
Yelling @ people ain't gonna cut it, you're lucky JR is a company man (and is used to it BAWD GOD!!) I'd put Mick on the booking commitee, and let him and Freddie have a good at it, while canning some of the old guard (yourself included).

I think WWE owns the rights to Cactus Jack and Dude Love (they created the Dude Love Character for Mick?, and I'd guess they got Cactus Jack when they bought WCW?). I don't get this though. What can he possibly be for TNA? I could buy him as the manager for someone that sucks @ promos, but he doesn't need to be wrestling. Sometimes it looks like he's in pain just walking.

Posted By: Exodus (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 12:28 PM

Good luck, Foley.
Guess we won't see him in the HoF anytime soon..
But I just hope doesn't pull a Sting on him.

This is kind of too bad for me, since I like Foley, but I don't think even he'd be capable of bringing me to watch TNA. On the other hand, it could be very good for TNA fans if they do put him on the announce team. Tenay and that other guy are a large part of the reason why TNA sucks so much. (My opinion only, I am not presenting it as fact) If Foley became the Anchor on that broadcast team it would improve the match calling by about 1000000000%.

TNA keeps getting better and better while the WWE has guys like Mark Henry and CM Suck as champs.

Its amazing how much better TNA has become than the WWE. Its a shame they aret going head to head on Monday Nights. Sign Goldberg, move to Monday Night, and go for it. It wouldnt take much to beat a RAW product without Orton or Cena and with CM Suck as the champion.

man, i think i read wrong...what i read was Mick Foley and TNA have reached an agreement and Foley is expected to officially sign his TNA deal soon. But I guess most people clicked this link and read that TNA signed mick foley and the details are that he will wrestle on a regular basis. In other words, wait to see how they use him before you criticize

I just can't see where this would be helpful to TNA. Foley can't work anymore...period. He can do maybe two matches a year, and they HAVE to be garbage matches to cover up for the fact that he's way past his wrestling prime and can only bump in the ring. Yes, he can still cut amazing promos, but who could they put him with as a manager? Abyss? Prince Justice Brotherhood League of Assclowns? AJ? Is it going to be someone Foley can get over? What about replacing Don West at the announce booth...is it worth all the money he's getting just to announce? Sorry people, we don't tune in for announcers...we tune in for the action and story.

Foley should have just stayed out of the business, at least the main stream side...pop up in RoH a few times like before, talk up the promotion, get something happening...in fact, maybe RoH would have been a better fit for Foley, as he brings in name value which will get people to shows, people to buy DVDs, more than 14 people to buy the PPVs, etc.

Yeah, fuck TNA. Hell, fuck WWE (Foley keeps burning that bridge and Vince is finally tired of repairing it). Foley belongs in RoH.

Don't forget the NWO was built around ex-WWE talent. They are generally considered anything from best to third best stable of all time (with DX and the Horsemen being their main competition). So former WWE stars can be a massive boost to a company and can work along with home grown stars and help to build them.

Sure taking WWE rejects can also be a disaster, depends how they play it. But you shouldn't dismiss it just out of hand.

Even if it didn't work out in the ring, he could go on commentary, that definitely would improve things.

One of the best minds in the "wrasslin" business. He'll do a couple of matches but dear good please let him have something to do with the booking! His feuds are always so personal, heaps excited this is TNA's best addition.

so how do you all know that Foley can't work anymore? Because Csonka said so?? His last 5 matches have been great. Just 2 weeks ago everyone was on his dick for that promo with edge....now he sucks, and can't work? Give me a break!!

We all know that everyone who said this is crap. Is going to watch his TNA debut so......

Some of the younger fans thinks Foley cant wrestle because he has been in WWE so long. Seems to be a common problem.

If you E fan boys havent noticed. There is not a whole lot of wrestling going on in WWE. RVD was a good example of that.

This is huge for TNA. Finally someone worth taking from WWE besides Angle.

They just need RVD now.

Posted By: RedVexx (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:38 PM

I personally was a big TNA fan and when they originally signed Kurt Angle I was excited, but interest in the TNA product started dropping the moment they made Joe lose to Angle in their first match. This would have been the perfect time to show that TNA's best wrestler is better than WWE's best.

In any case in a lot of our opinion's the TNA product has been going down the drain. But the FACT remains that TNA is now (with all their WWE-rejects) getting profits. They have enough money to start paying back Panda. That means whether we like all the Russo-riffic angles and all the WWE-rejects or not, TNA is finally becoming a success.

Personally Foley/JR were my fave commentary team. But now Taz/JR are.

I think Foley is a HUGE gain for TNA. And I will actually start watching again to see how they use him. I would like to see him added to commentary. Foley is GOLD on commentary especially if he is allowed to do his own thing. I would also like to see them remove Cornette and put Foley there as well. He can have both roles. Cornette can go back to managing a wrestler, maybe even a stable. He could due so much for up and coming stars in that role.

And we can also build to the eventual Foley vs. Abyss dream match. As well as the Foley vs. Samoa Joe dream match the ROH was creaming themselves over the possibility but never cashed in on. Both times Foley must do the job.

Also Foley interacting with EY and Curry Man is an EPIC WIN!

FOLEY to TNA=EPIC WIN!
FOLEY out of WWE=EPIC FAIL!

If this does officially go down and not just leverage for Foley with WWE, then I will definitely be watching TNA again!

And for all you saying that WWE is stale you obviously haven't watched it since after the draft. Each brand is actually fun to watch. Except for maybe Henry as ECW champion. But once someone gets the title off him it will be worth it.

Angle was a great take for TNA, Booker wasn't doing too much for WWE, but he hasn't done anything for TNA either. Foley might not be anything more than a glorified manager. His role might be smaller than Stings is. And whats with SpikeTV paying for TNA's contracts, overpaying aged wrestlers with money they didn't have is what ended WCW isn't it?

Posted By: LetsSee (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:47 PM

Sell out.

Posted By: Guest#9821 (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:48 PM

For those of you that keep asking why he left WWE ...
Would YOU want Vinnie Mac yelling in your ear for 2 hours telling you what to say and when while you're trying to do YOUR job?
I wouldn't want that stress.
It's been mentioned before that this was a big reason that he left.
Now he can go to TNA with probably close to carte blanche and just be Mick Foley and help to put over younger talent which Mick has been trying to do ever since he "retired".
Get off your little soap boxes and stop blathering on about how crappy it's going to be until we see what happens.

and the impact rating for Foley's first TNA appearance is ... 1.0!!!

Posted By: Chris (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:53 PM

I just don't see the logic of anyone saying this is a bad mover for Foley. I'd say it was a bigger risk for Angle when he made the move. After that you had Booker T. I happen to think the Dudley Boys where more Heyman's creativity than anything else and they just don't fit in TNA. I think Foley has shown when ever given freedom on his own has performed. I think this can only help TNA. All those people complaining about TNA creating thier own stars remember WCW was built on former WWF stars jumping ship. I think this is a huge snag for TNA. Let's not foget when Hogan jumped to WCW his career was virtually over. I would argue at this point of Foleys career he is less stale then Hogan was all those years ago and look what Hogan was able to do. At the end of the day wrestling isn't real and if Foley could pull out the promos that he always does and wrestle at half capacity he once did then you will see this move will be worth it. And getting Foley isn't just a move for now it's a move for the future so who knows maybe TNA could one day get Austin and RVD. Thats just my opinion though

Posted By: Foley (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:54 PM

I have to say this. I am probably one of Mick Foley's biggest fans ever, and absolutely love everything he's ever done on the mike, and most of what he's done in the ring.
Having said that, if he wrestles in TNA I will never watch the show again. Because after June 25th, 2007, it became clear to me that I LIKE HIS WIFE AND KIDS too much to be party to his getting more concussions, possibly driving him as insane as Chris had to be that weekend (source -- Nowinski's people's brain-scans of Benoit).
Of course, I'm probably wrong, it'll probably never happen, and even if he DOES snap, Dewey's probably big enough to take his father in a fight by now. But with the head injuries he's had, this is just proof, Mick's just like all the people he's criticized over the years -- he's not putting his family first, he's putting his almost literally god-damned 'legacy' first.

I liked Foley in the 80s in UWF/Mid South and WCCW. But he went too far in my opinion and hasn't been entertaining since.

I'm know I'm in a severe minority here, but I don't care for people that can't put on a match without ladders, tables, bats, barbed wire......

Posted By: David (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 01:57 PM

some of you people are fucking retarded. you assume he's gonna wrestle curry man or samoa joe, etc.
why dont you wait until they announce him in a match before assuming he's gonna wrestle, fucking nimrods

Posted By: Curly (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 02:06 PM

WWE fans can't get over the fact that Foley is no long on their shows anymore. Now he gets to create new memories in TNA, so deal with it!

What I'm hoping is that TNA continues to go back to shoot comment promos like when they had the Steiners/Team 3D situation last year. Foley and Nash would be great for that. Also, it wouldn't be contrived the way his promos were with Edge.

If TNA wants to be a true alternative then they need to embrace the original ECW style (more shoot promos, less garbage).

thinking about it, it's a bitter/sweet feeling knowing that foley is jumping before it happens.....sweet because this wrestling site among others somehow gets this inside info. on these companies and reports the news to us, the die-heart wrestling fans. Bitter because the element of the suprise is basically no more these days, you'll never get that am i really seeing this feeling anymore. It would've REALLY caught me off guard not having knowledge of this and seeing mick foley make an appearence into the impact zone. If you think about it, some of the biggest company jumps in wrestling history could've been ruined by the internet but all in all since i'm a fan of this site, i'll live with getting the inside info before it happens

Funny, Gail Kim goes to WWE and everyones like "Good for her!". Foley goes to TNA and it's "FUCK HIM!". He can do what he wants. He's earned it. It's not like he's Hulk Hogan. That guy shouldn't be on ANY wrestling show.

Posted By: Chris (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 02:38 PM

Foley created "Dude Love" on his homemade videos. Yes, WWF ran with it and let Foley shed "Mankind" to develop the character, but the roots of DL were established long before the WWF copyright team got a hold of it.

Cactus Jack was Foley's wrestling name for most of his pre-WWF career - from World Class to WCW to Smoky Mountain. Much like Christian (Cage) was able to keep that name when he went to TNA, I think Foley can go by three of the four names he's famous for.

And a lot of you are overlooking a major thing about Foley's decision that has nothing to do with wrestling. If you've ever read any of his books, what does Foley always talk about? His love of Disney World? Where does TNA tape most of their TV shows and PPVs? Universal Studios, Orlando, right near Disney World. This is a dream job for Foley and his family and a smart move for the cheap bastard who's only adding to his miser fortune!

If TNA was smart they would let Mick Foley do a shoot Promo on Vince McMahon telling him to go Fuck himself

Posted By: Mordecai (Guest)  on August 28, 2008 at 03:12 PM

1. Foley isn't a WWE reject. He's a pro wrestler and personality that has been in every major promotion through the years and enjoys working in other places. He spent many years in WWE, but he was very much legitimate before then, and will be after.

2. McMahon is reportedly a bastard to work for. Foley's rich, so why work for a dick doing something you don't like when you don't have to?

3. Anyway Foley can give back to the business he will. Whether it pops ratings or not isn't always as important as having a respected veteran with his head in the right place in the locker room.

4. Any promotion that doesn't want Foley around in any role he is willing to fill is losing out big time. How many wrestlers are left these days that worked the old territories, travelled the world and have years upon years of top-card wrestling experience?

Everyone on this board is a bunch of know-it-all smart marks, acting as if the internet smartend them up. Foley's going to TNA...AHHHHAHA EPIC FAIL!@!!... big deal, let it go. Y'all bitch when they get WWE "rejects". well guess what? Foley can draw. Not millions but probably enough (and them some) to return on TNA's investment and help the company grow. If Foley wants to go there, then fine. Remember Smarks, the whole idea of this biz is to draw MONEY, and the by-product is wrestling.

Well, Mick´s already been to ECW, WCW, WWE - and that´s just in North America. Personally, I would have rather seen him ride off into the sunset, but it´s his life, no-one else´s.

I just hope he stays away from the ring. The guy´s been working on borrowed time since his matches with HHH in 2000. Still, I fear they´ll put his ass in a ring and have him act like its 1999 or something...

I hope he does not hurt himself much more.

Hardcore match with Abyss? Who says Mick Foley is going to be used so predictably? I'm guessing he'll take on some kind of GM role and feud with Cornette, or step right in to a major feud with Joe, where Foley does what all other "WWE Rejects" are doing: give back to the business. Foley still has a lot to give, and I don't see his creativity being wasted in meaningless feuds.

Because he doesn't want to travel 300 days out of the year? Because he's done everything he can do in WWE and wants to do something different? Because he's probably sick and tired of McMahon? Because he wants more time to write? Or Be with his kids?
If you've lost all respect for Foley because he wants a well deserved break and to have more free time, you, Guinness, are an idiot.

I've never been a HUGE Foley fan.. To me he wavers between tolerable and annoying.

My thoughts on foley have gone down with this choice he has made.
TNA blows, not because of lack of talent, but because of things like this.
Dixie needs to look at the Rise and Fall of WCW, signing over the hill stars and worthless talent that can't work full schedules (i.e. nash and sting).
Yeah they drew back in the mid to late 90s but that was over 10 years ago!
WCW bombed because of the same shit as this, those who think Foley is gonna go put over abyss, look at what Angle did to TNA hero samoa joe or what jarrett did to most of the roster!
Same thing happened in WCW, im just suprised that Foley is doing the exact same thing he complained about in his first book.
He will hold down talent and be pushed because of his name, don't hold your breath for him to put anyone over...

Sorry to break it to you guys, but I don't think Foley is going to be wrestling much.

Think about it. He retired as an active wrestler from WWE 8 years ago. He is permanently crippled, lost half his ear and already walks with a chimpanzee-like gait.

No Comprehende peeps...Foley may wrestle on special occassions, but he'll prolly be brought in as a manager or announcer or something like that.

Why is Foley going to TNA? There's no reason too, it's just going to demeanor his hardcore legacy. TNA needs to create their own star, not always rely on WWE rejects.

"demeanor" his legacy? Demeanor it??? What on earth are people taught in schools these days?

MP you did not say anything the least bit controversial or "edgy", so enough with the "there, i said it" comments, lol. You are a hack with no original thoughts.

Are you fucking kidding me?? When has Foley never stepped up to the plate in regards to putting people over??? Foley has ALWAYS been one of the few class acts in the wrestling business who has always been eager to put younger guys over. Lest we forget that he basically MADE the careers of HHH, Randy Orton and Edge and if any of you know your wrestling history you can't fuckin deny it!! And if he's phycally able to he WILL do the same with some of the younger TNA talent.

I just don't see it working though. Building on fresh talent made TNA what it is and they should just stick to putting on great matches, which Foley won't be able to do on a regular basis anymore.

Posted By: Guest#7682 (Guest) on August 28, 2008 at 12:00 PM

What, like Booker T, Kurt Angle, Christian, Tomko, Sting and Scott Steiner?

Or, do you mean, like the old days of TNA, with those amazing home grown talents like Jeff Jarrett, Raven, D'Lo Brown, Sabu, Ken Shamrock, and SEX starring that TNA talent Vince Russo?

Or, are you talking about the people who get pushed to the side, like "Let's Copy Steiner" Petey Williams, or "Let's Copy Randy Savage" Jay Lethal?

Oh, you must mean Samoa Joe, the Goldberg of TNA. Or the 3(?)time NWA-TNA Heavyweight Champion, AJ Styles, currently enjoying his role as an IDIOT!

If you are really going to compete, you need old, recognizable faces from other companies. While Sting and Nash are not the draws they once were, they still are draws in some capacity. Sting is my fav. of all-time along with many others plus at his age he is still amongst the upper-tier of wrestlers in the business. Not all wrestling fans know about the young talent in TNA so there's nothing wrong with some casual fan flipping through tv channels and saying, hey isn't that Mick Foley? A well-known face can draw many wrestling fans into tuning in to a company which then the lax's, the mcmg's, the likes of beer money will start to become well-known to many fans all because they just happened to tune in when they saw Mick Foley. If you look at it, You name me all of those old faces in TNA and I'll tell you what titles they currently hold....and the answer will be none. WCW waited too late to push their young stars, while granted it has taken tna some time, they've started to push their own wrestlers in spite of having older wrestlers there. Plus, i'll say this until it happens, where are you all getting this inside info. that you know HOW mick foley is going to get booked? you can't criticize until you know

Foley could become one of the best managers of all time, imo. Pairing him with one or two guys as a heel would be great. He could be the 2000s Capt. Lou Albano (and I mean that to be VERY favorably). He can talk, still take bumps, is recognizable.

"Score one for TNA. Think of all the possible matches:
Foley vs Abyss
Foley vs Joe
Foley vs Styles

I'll be watching those matches on Free TV (Impact)

Kick mother effin Russo and Mantell out of the company and make Foley and Dmore the bookers of TNA. Best possible move TNA could make right now.

Foley's Edge promo recently was some the best stick work I have seen in quite some time. Please allow Foley to be a part of the team, creatively and as an on air presence. He is an asset anywhere he goes, just like Jim Cornette. Matter of fact let Cornette and Foley book a few angles. This run in TNA could be Mick's "Rocky Balboa". Matter of fact get Flair in TNA to help the young guys as well. Get Goldberg and book him short term as WCW booked him in his original run. Add that and RVD and TNA could give Vince a run for their money.

I love how everyone's all "Foley needs to shoot on Vince". Yeah, because Vince has been so bad towards Mick - it's not like he made him world champion, published all his books, helped him become a household name, and gave him a fat contract for doing next-to-nothing for the past three years.

OMG WWE IS SO SCREWED NOW. TNA IS GOING TO KILL THEM IN THE RATIN...

hahahahahahahahaha Can't even finish typing that. This is such a stupid move imo. If Angle did shit for TNA I don't see what Foley's presence will do.

this is good for foley. seems like his deal says he'll be doing other things for Spike also. thats something he wouldnt have been able to do while in WWE. good move.

Are you kidding me? WWE Rejects? This is FOLEY! We're not talking about picking up some nobody like Road Dogg. Yes, they need to stop picking up worthless WWE cast offs, but Foley is definitely not in that category.

I don't know what they plan to do with him, but I'm sure it's not good. GM would be good. Replacing one of the commentators would be good. He shouldn't wrestle though. Throw him in some Russo-booked matches and I'm sure THAT would tarnish the legacy real quick.

Posted By: Deadshot42 (Guest)  on August 29, 2008 at 01:01 PM

Good riddance. He wasn't doing much for WWE anymore, people barely pop for him except the old farts from the early 90's. I'm from that time myself, so get over it oldies, the guy is over the hill. Not much he can do for TNT, I say whatever, let the guy enjoy his life and hopefully finish off a great career. But if anyone thinks this is a "great" catch.........yeah, so was Booker T and Kurt Angle. Just look at those ratings. >>

hahahahahahahaha! What a loss for WWE. I hope they have Foley booking and showing the younger guys how to really cut a promo. Screw Vince!

WWE, eat your heart out...You did not know how to take care of talent, once more..TNA and Spike Television are not deaf or dumb. They know when they can seek a talent like Mick Foley.

Dixie Carter and Jeff Jerret, Job well done you two. Go TNA....WWE fans, eat your heart out. What do you have to say for yourselves and meteocracy??Well..
