WWE News: Heyman On Cena, JR Football Article, CM Punk Interview
Posted by Ashish on 08.30.2008
Some Saturday news...
- Paul Heyman has an article up on the Sun UK website talking about why John Cena is the perfect employee for Vince McMahon. Check out the article here.
- Jim Ross has a new blog entry up talking about Oklahoma football. Check out the article here.
- ChicagoMag.com has an interview up with CM Punk where he talks about his "straighte-edge" lifestyle, not taking pain killers, etc. Check out the interview here.
I agree with Paulie about John Cena. He is the #1 superstar in the WWE today. He might be even better than Hulk Hogan ever was.

That Cena piece by Heyman was great. I totally agree. I've never been the biggest fan of Cena's booking, but I don't see how anyone can genuinely hate the man, just the machine at times.
And he's right, he does help sell merch. I've seen quite a few Cena shirts on fans in my town. Granted, they were all teenagers, but WWE needs to bring in new fans regardless and get some of their money.

Let's not go nuts, John.

For the love of Killer Kowalski, can someone tell me why Paul Heyman isn't booking TNA instead of Russo?

I want whatever he is smoking? John Cena will not even be remembered in the top ten entertainers of all time. Just to name a few people better, Hogan, Flair, Austin, Rock, Triple H, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Savage, Andre, Taker, Kurt Angle, Sting, and og course the likes of Skinner, Brooklyn Brawler, and Max Moon.

John Cena will be remembered just as much if not more then HBK, Bret Hart, Edge, Savage, and Angle
And John Cena is already a bigger mainstream star than HBK Bret Hart, Kurt Angle, Edge, Savage, Angle, and Sting. Ask a bunch of random people on the street who aren't wrestling fans who the guys I listed are and then ask them who John Cena is. I'm willing to bet more people will know who Cena is
If I went listed who the top stars at each period of time in the wwe it would go like this
Bruno Samartino- 70's
Hulk Hogan-80's
Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels/Undertalker - early to mid 90's
Austin/Rock- late 90's to early 00's
HHH- 03-05
Cena 05-present
Not to mention Cena had the longest individual title reign since the Hogan
Cena haters just like to put down all Cena's accomplished so that he doesn't rival any one of their favorite stars. Jeez even when Austin was on top nobody dared put him on the same level as Hogan, and now today alot of people would argue that Austin was better then Hogan. Its the same exact situation

I love the way the tone shifts just because Pauly says so. You'd not read so much pro-cena stuff if it was the Ultimate Warrior saying that stuff, that is for sure. Lol.
I've no doubt Cena has star quality, but I doubt he'll ever be considered a top 10 wrestling legend. Perhaps had he come along in Hogans day, he could have been pushed instead of Hogan to the same success. Maybe. But it isn't Hogans day anymore. You can no longer expect to push a charismatic wrestler with a good physique and a solid but basic move set and expect everyone to lap it up. Not in the age of the internet smark.

Paul E needs to get with the program, I was an avid viewer of WWF from 99 till 2003, if I was 14 again getting into it these days I would not. John Cena is not edgy...todays youth and people in general love more edgy stuff...get with the fricking program...Cena doesnt suck but the way he is presented blows!

My dislike of Cena came purely out of him being pushed down my throat, non-stop (even when he was filming a movie) for about two years. I never thought he was especially talented in the ring, although I'd say he is more capable than Hogan ever was, that isn't the only thing that counts in the wrestling business; I'm certain that wrestlers who are remembered for being great in-ring talents would agree. Even after the fairly short break from injury that ended at the Rumble, I found myself disliking him less and less as the weeks went by (although I was PISSED when he came out at number 30).
Heyman absolutely hit the nail on the head in that article. Cena is, essentially, the perfect WWE employee which is why he has gotten the sort of backing he has from the company. WWE is a business, and it needs strong employees to keep running efficiently. I work in a restaurant, so using that metaphor, Cena is the manager that doesn't quite know what he is doing as well as the others but he got to where he is because he is always there when needed.
And, as a final point to my marijuana-induced ramblings, saying that Cena is a bigger star (even in terms of just WWE) is just ridiculous. Whatever you're smoking, it ain't the shit I got.

My point in the first paragraph above is that I just needed a break from Super Cena.
Anyway, I didn't just reply again to say that, it was to respond to this. . .
"World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) contender CM Punk has amassed an international following smitten by his punk attitude and "straight-edge" lifestyle (no drugs, no promiscuous sex). The Wicker Park resident, 29, returns to his home turf for a WWE smackdown August 18th. Chicago talked with Punk (née Phil Brooks) about his surging stardom, steroids, and his signature wrestling move: Welcome to Chicago, Mother******."
. . . did they pay a monkey to write this? Poor grammer aside, half of that information is incorrect. When has he EVER used a finisher called Welcome to Chicago Motherfucker? CM Punk, on Monday August 18th, returned to Chicago as a contender on WWE SmackDown?! Straightedge is about just no drug & no promiscuity? I'm not even sXe and that pisses me off.
. . . I should really stop getting high and posting everything I think around here. . .

foley man - foley... u forgot foley...
i mean... sure lots of ppl will say that he was just one of those guys who made a name by taking huge bumps, but the fact is that people loved him, and he was insanely over - especially after that hell in a cell match against undertaker...
foley should be in there along with stone cold and rock... and im sure loads of ppl would agree

Punk used Welcome to Chicago Motherfucker in ROH, but I never saw it used as a finisher. The only time I remember him using it in WWE was on the Miz during an ECW title match last year. Cyber Sunday or Survivor Series '07.

It's really easy to see why Heyman wrote this article
"When I was the lead writer for WWE Smackdown, one of my early moves was bringing Cena up to the main roster from OVW."
He's simply taking credit. He's not praising him because he thinks he's great. He thinks he's great because he promoted him.
